18.01.2022 Covid thoughts... What I miss most about performing is making people smile or laugh. New goals... Make someone smile or laugh behind that mask everyday even though I’m not performing. #Circus #highwire #performingarts #circuseverydamnday #ashleyonthewire #covidthoughts #saltwater

11.01.2022 Training time with my daughter Serafina. She did ok considering she is scared of heights. I had her practicing for a while at 50cm height working her balance reps and then falls to condition her hands to always look for the wire before I would let her go to this 2m height. She surprised me I was only going to let her stand on the the stand. But she really wanted to walk. Next step use a harness and take the walking stick away.
11.01.2022 Well what a great 9 days I had at the WA Circus Festival. Thankyou to Matt Yates for inviting me and for saying yes to having my new high wire partner Eve Evera...rd perform with me. It just put a whole other dimension on my act having her there. I am waiting for the footage atm but I am told it is stunning with the full moon behind. The photos with the dark sky are from the Sunday night show and are screenshots from the video credit to Cath Wood . I also performed a 80m long Skywalk above the festival. If anyone has videos or photos of the act or the walk can I get a copy. #circuseverydamday #highwire #ashleyonthewire #tightrope #circus #ashleybrophy #brophy #wacircusfestival #carnidalelive #karnidalelive

01.01.2022 Edit: Added extra old photos. Hi everyone, warning a long post but I hope it’s worth sharing with some of you my story this past few years given how devastati...ng this virus is affecting the entertainment, tourism and in my case the Circus industry. I am one of the lucky ones from entertainment now it seems. I am writing this to give some of my friends some kind of inspiration since this virus has just suddenly made nearly everyone in entertainment unemployed in Australia and much of the world. It’s not easy I know.. A couple of years ago I was travelling full time with Circus performing my high wire and western acts. But as the show needed to cut back and having a big and expensive act I had to move on. We moved to Melbourne. I hated it. As a high wire circus performer it is better to travel full time to earn a living. I ended up pulling out all my skills learned in my years in Circus and life. I performed in a few small festivals, but sporadic jobs don’t pay the bills in a big family. I also know I need to reinvent my acts to suit festivals but the bills keep piling in and so no time. I went to my plan B (driving Uber, doesn’t pay the bills) then C (entertainment rigging, sporadic and seasonal. I still take the odd gig though) D and E.. Welding and Rope access but my tickets are out of date. Now finally I had to accept my plan F, for f.....g truck driving. Not that there is anything wrong with truck driving but that’s normally only used to get to the next Circus gig, right? In the meantime my youngest daughter is going to ballet and acro and I teach her wire. The two boys are younger and we are letting them decide what they want to do. But they will have a choice being in one place. This last couple of years has been hard for me and my partner Michelle 'Mina' Brophy who has herself had her work cut out for her with raising our three kids with all their special needs but we have the benefits of a great school which has helped enormously. I look at it this way, it’s not all about me anymore. Melbourne is growing on me and help has come in unexpected ways. If my kids want to continue and take up the Circus lifestyle I would love it. My oldest daughter lives in NZ and is passionate with her Music which I love, not Circus but connected. My kids have a choice now that they would not have easily had while travelling with Circus. I am now this past six weeks doing interstate work with fridge trucks after 18 months driving trucks around Melbourne with heavy steel drops. I don’t like the interstate driving because it’s all night work and only seeing the family one day a week. However with the virus taking hold I am happy to do it and will hold onto this job. I am lucky I changed jobs as people will always need the food I deliver. I come from a large family and all my siblings and some of their kids are in Circus or Showgrounds (carnival rides etc) All of them have just had their business’s and jobs taken from them in just one day, after our Australian governments recommendation to limit crowd sizes to 500 people due to the Corona Virus. But my family are resilient and I know they will get through it, although they don’t feel that right now. Yesterday I said to my sister it’s like we are on a war footing. She said no it’s worse, at least during war we can work... This reminded me of my dad Mick Brophy RIP. He did in his war what I am now doing. In the Second World War he was a truck driver and did his part. I don’t really want to compare myself with what he went through which was horrendous. But it really does seem that we are on a war footing and the worst is still to come. Everyone will need to do their bit for the effort. Take chances try something new. The foreseeable future will be very different. It will likely mean you will also be working jobs you don’t like. But mostly look out for your friends and family because they will be going through it all too. Ask are you OK If you can afford to use this opportunity to reskill then do it. Your older self will thank you Good luck to everybody here I was going to say keep training. But that’s like it isolates you to your Circus skills. Instead I say keep skilling up and not just your performing. I will be ok as It was luck with the job I found myself in. Do I still want to do Circus? Hell yeah! I’ll be back. Circus is pretty addictive. But now I just need to do my bit for our effort for the time being. I have added a few photos from some of my past 45+ years performing. Enjoy I leave you with this from a man who is now in isolation with the Corona virus. Tom Hanks Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get
