17.01.2022 After having my first bub last year I was very surprised at how different my body felt, things just didn’t feel right. Movements I’d done my whole life were foreign to me. . . I did so much research, I did all the right things. Saw a women’s health physio, built back up my core but when it came to building a strength program I found I had very limited knowledge for post partum. .... . This is the same for all coaches and personal trainers. We get one 45 minutes session on female specific training and that’s it. Maybe your better courses get an hour but the knowledge is extremely limited and does no way come even close to what is needed for pre and post partum clients. . . This has become something extremely important to me, and considering 85% of women will have a child at some point, it’s a huge gap in knowledge for our female clients. . . 16.01.2022 When a no excuses attitude just wont work . . Don’t get me wrong sometimes there is definitely a need for the kick up the bum, no excuses. But dealing with little ones really ain’t it. .... . Despite her big arse smile here, Ollie was miserable all day. Now I have a great kid, naps twice a day for 1-2 hrs, sleeps all night from 5:30pm-6:30am... so I’m not complaining but today with her teething and just wanting cuddles, I saw the other side. I saw what other mums go through on the daily and I can hand on heart say no amount of no excuses talk is going to miraculously make them feel like training or give a crap about their PT’s expectations. Frankly all I wanted today was a cup of tea and silence for 5 minutes, just 5 minutes! . . All I did today was try to get little bits done in the rare moments of calm. Ten push ups here, maybe a set of squats if she was happy enough, she probably would have been happy to go for a walk if the rain would have let up! . . So firstly to all the mums training at home, good on you and keep it up. . . Secondly, on those shit days, don’t put pressure on yourself to be perfect. If getting it done means breaking it up into small parts scattered throughout the day, then that’s what you do. . . Your health and fitness isn’t dictated by one day, it’s a culmination of your habits over a long period of time. And some days, we all just need that 5 minutes and a cuppa . . 16.01.2022 You’ll noticed our name has changed . . there’s a good reason for this. I’m heading back to fulltime shift work which means my ability to do in person personal training is now extremely limited as my downtime will be concentrating on my family. So I’ll be switching to an online platform. .... . Because of that, I didn’t feel Ashlie Jade Personal Training represented the brand anymore. I wanted this page to be about all things health and fitness, including my own fitness journey so that’s why we have moved to Ashlie Jade Fit. . . 15.01.2022 Push up progressions . . After my #csection I had to start right back from the start again so I thought these progressions might be helpful to others. .... . 1 push ups on knees- ensure your hands are in line with the midline of your chest and elbows flare backwards on a 45 degree angle. 2 push ups on toes- hands in line with middle of chest, elbows flare backwards at a 45 degree angle and keep tummy tight and squeeze glutes to ensure straight line through body. 3 push ups on kettle bells- these are great for adding a bit of core strength and stability to the push up. Ensure handles are again in line with the midline of chest and are just outside your shoulders to allow your body to dip inbetween them. . . 14.01.2022 6 weeks difference . I took the photo on the right 2 weeks after lockdown. Before lockdown I was halfway through a challenge with @teamstalder_muaythai who had been kicking my butt back into gear after bub. But all of that came to a halt. . So I did what any normal person would do, spent about a week in denial then another week eating all the apocalypse chocolate and then I took this photo. .... Unfortunately I had a torn oblique at the start of lockdown which made continuing with my teams training regime near impossible and no more Muay Thai for a while. Not only could I not engage my core but I also couldn’t lift my left leg or do anything high repetition. So bye bye roundhouse kicks . I had a choice, do nothing and wait for this shit show to be over and then be in a worse position or get my shit together on my own and rehab properly so I can go back to training stronger. . So I wrote a new program for myself, which focused on rehab and strengthening my weak areas. I redid my macros and increased them to maintenance, I fixed my NEAT levels and introduced flexibility and mobility and the photo on the left is after 6 weeks. . And clearly my morning walks have paid off, I’m no longer pasty white . I don’t know the body fat or muscle changes but I know the scales say 5 kg difference weight wise. . My clothes are looser, my face is slimmer, I can run longer, I feel lighter when skipping & I can do full push ups again. . Even though I am a personal trainer, I prefer to have a coach when it comes to myself as it takes the thinking away from me and allows me to just work hard without second guessing. But with everything going on and how hard the Stalder’s have worked to move their training to online for our team, I didn’t want to burden them and place more stress on them with individualizing the training to accomodate my injury when I have the knowledge to do it myself. So isolation forced me to have to be my own coach for a while. I’m changing gears now and have been enjoying programming at training at home. . 13.01.2022 Bench dips . . Dips can be hard to perfect so start off slow. The above picture is the hardest progression with legs out flat but there are things you can do to make it easier and build up to this. . . ... 1 bring your legs into a table top 2 legs out slightly from tablet top but not yet straight . . Make sure your butt is brushing past the bench, too large a gap between your back and bench will put undue stress on the shoulder joint. . . Also make sure your elbows are pointing to the rear and not flaring out, we want to target the tricep as much as possible. . . 10.01.2022 Training at home with kids . No matter what the plan, it doesn’t go to plan. . Handstand holds- she crawls up to my face and pulls my hair ... Bulgarian split squats- trying to hold the pause in the stretched position, and she crawls and sits right underneath me... talk about incentive to not fail. Leg extensions -bawling and wants to be held so we do it with bub on my lap. . And my favorite by far is when doing hip thrusts or glute bridges and not only are my glutes on fire but also my toes cause bub has run over them with the walker about 3 times a set. . But today when we finished, and we were sitting doing stretching. She pulls herself up, stands, no hands and balances perfectly and just looks at me like see I can do it too. I see those eyes watching me and I know she will be right there training with me one day. . So for all you mums training at home, you are superstars . I never knew how hard it was until now, but wouldn’t change it for the world. . Also if any of my crossfit buddies have any pointers on handstand holds and progressions to handstand push ups I’m all ears. If you want to improve lower back pain, improve your core strength. . If you want to be less injury prone, improve your core strength. . . Your core is super important for lifting heavy, mobility, posture and especially for us mothers recovering post partum. Core work is very different to working the abdominals so don’t get the two confused. . . Training abs is more about the aesthetic look of your abdominal region whereas training your core is more about looking after your spine, pelvic floor and posture. . . 04.01.2022 From the exercise I hate, to the one I love . . I really enjoy deadlifts. There’s something empowering about feeling so strong. I use to hate them. This was mainly due to a lack of knowledge and past injury but it’s definitely a staple in my routine now just for posterior chain health. .... . Deadlifts can look a little different on everyone due to hip structure, shoulder width and leg mass.
