15.01.2022 WANTED - stars for mini-videos on social media, youth (16 - 22yrs) living with Autism. Let's Embrace Diversity - Albany Autism Awareness ASNA (Autism Support N...etwork Albany) are so excited to announce that they have received a grant from FRRR ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grants Program - L.E.D Let's Embrace Diversity category. This grant will assist the Let's Embrace Diversity - Albany Autism Awareness project, which is about promoting awareness of the different skills and attributes of Albany youth living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Many youth living with ASD have a particular interest that they usually excel at, as they have spent so much time watching, reading or actually doing it and would love to join a community group where they could share their unique skills. The project will produce short 3-5min videos of each participant, suitable for social media to spread awareness and help youths be accepted into the community. Youth living with ASD between the ages of 16 & 22 yrs will be interviewed and videoed about their ASD traits and what their interests are. Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company (ALOTCo) Let’s Shine performers Emily O’Brien and Bayden Redshaw will be part of the interviewing and video-graphing team, who themselves have an inner knowledge of what it is like to be living with ASD. Supported by Janet McArtney a Director of the ‘Let Shine’ productions, a variety show integrating people living with disabilities and ALOTCo members performing and having fun onstage. Emily is a capable actor and dancer and has performed at Spectrum Theatre and ALOTCo. She has been involved in 3 Let’s Shine productions over the last 7 years and is a confident converser, much of which her confidence has come from being involved in her passion, theatre. "I am involved with this project because I am a big advocate for making people aware that just because some people have a disability, doesn't mean that they can't be in a community" Bayden has also performed as a singer or actor in both theatre groups and in particular the ‘Let’s Shine Brightly’ production and other shows at ALOTCo. You may have also seen him around town in’ Black Ambience’ singing too. Bayden’s passion has been videoing for many years and recently has videoed shows for ALOTCo and a documentary about ‘Let’s Shine Brightly’ called ‘Shine from the Shadows’ (supported by Carers WA) a sneaky look from behind the scenes of the last years ‘Let’s Shine’ show. I want to be involved with this project as I feel it's important to tell the personal stories of people living with disabilities. I am also very passionate about filmmaking and the chance that I can use my passions and creativity to benefit the world means a great deal to me too! These two make a dynamic duo, who will design the questions, interview, and video the participants which will relay their special differences and what their interests are in the hope of joining a suitable community group. ASNA is an Albany based parent-run charity with the aim of providing support and information to parents and family carers of individuals of all ages on the Autism Spectrum. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to partner with Emily, Bayden and Janet in supporting our children to voice their experiences of autism to the community. So Let's Embrace Diversity - Albany Autism Awareness Project is looking for youth (16 22yrs) who would like to be involved in this project starting videoing in February 2021, culminating with a Premiere viewing at The Port Theatre (home of ALOTCo) and the release in September 2021 online. If interested in making a difference to yourselves and others, contact Janet on 0401 203 557 Let's Embrace Diversity - Albany Autism Awareness Sponsored by FRRR ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grants Program - L.E.D Let's Embrace Diversity category. www.frrr.org.au/grants/heywire-youth-innovation Leading organisation - Autism Support Network Albany (ASNA) www.facebook.com/AutismSupportNetworkAlbany/ Supported by - Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company (ALOTCo) Lets Shine www.facebook.com/LetsShineALOTCo/ & www.facebook.com/AlbanyLightOperaTheatreCompany/ #LEDAAALetsShineDisabletheLabel
