24.01.2022 So results today. Girls 1W-4L currently 8th on the ladder and in a spot for finals. AB MEN 2, 3W-2L currently in 7th place and AB MEN 1, 5W-0L Currently in 3rd spot on percentage. So a good day for all teams. Girls probably only need 1 win more to secure finals. The AB 2 side probably need 2 wins to be secure. AB 1 want to gain a high seeding in the crossover so there is much to aim for tomorrow.

We have two u19 girls teams in Junior carnival and two men's and one women's team in the senior carnival. 5 teams in total which is exciting and wonderful to see the expansion. 20.01.2022 The new generation Ashwin Blazers

18.01.2022 Good win by the boys in the first semi, sounds like we didn't have our act together in the first half down by 16 points. But you kept them to just 14 points in the second half which is the 2nd lowest over the 2 seasons in the competition. And you dropped 34 yourselves in the second half which our sixth highest half. Great comeback. Looks like big contributions in the 1st half by jono who had 8 points for the half and finished with 10, then leading the 2nd half comeback was Rene jnr who had 15 for the half, lathan 11 (13) and Reece 6 (8). We need to bring the second half into our first half next week in the GF. See you next weekend 4pm v Rollies.

17.01.2022 There are some exciting opportunities coming up for Aboriginal children and young people. I have been talking with Donna Nelson and Matthew Hickey and they are building an organisation to work collaboratively with local grassroots partners to development local talent and create pathway opportunities direct with the US as well as local, state and national levels. The Ashwin Blazers will one of the foundation partners. The vision involves the development of facilities, struc...tures and funding to support this development across the founding partners. Donna has also developed a partnership with a highly successful basketball development organisation in the Jersey Pioneers Basketball Club. They have created a model of success in developing young talent and building strong individuals over the last 25 years. I have included their website for you all to see for yourself. To start this journey, there is a trip to the US on July 23 (possibly 2 weeks), visiting and playing against teams in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. This is an exciting opportunity which is available for the following age groups of males and females: 25 years and under, U20, U18, U16, U14 and U12. Also, the 25 and under teams will be travelling to Haida Gwaii, Canada to play in an international invitational. Haida Gwaii (which means islands of the Haida) is the traditional country of the Haida nation, a proud Indigenous people with a population of about 4,500. Here is a couple of links to check it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haida_Gwaii and https://www.lonelyplanet.com//queen-charlotte-islands-haid. An American coach will be heading up the teams selected with the support of local coaches and support staff. Some trainings have already occurred around July-August last year with strong talent identified. However, there is a tournament which will coming up on the 9th March (venue TBA) which give opportunity for others to be identified and added to an initial squad which will be narrowed down in April and squads selected for the trip. A further opportunity for Girls U17 with a trip to Whangarei, NZ to play a tournament at Kensington Stadium on October 1-5. Here are a couple of links to check it out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whangarei and https://www.newzealand.com/au/whangarei/ Please inbox Rene Reddingius on messenger or through phone 0417434447 to express your interest. Training for the Blazers will be commencing soon in preparation for this tournament to give our talent the best possible chance for selection in these teams. See more

Outstanding efforts from all the girls with Elouise Issacs, Kylinda George and our captain Calais H...amlett having strong games. Elouise had a good start to the carnival and Calais ended up taking out MVP overall for the under 19 carnival. Fantastic achievement Calais. We improved every game especially Klarah and Annashae, Toshi and Lucretia George who really contributed to our competitiveness. Two wins and 3 losses overall with two losses by 1 point and a 9 point loss to the eventual champions. Really proud of efforts and really thinking about putting this team in the Indigenous Awareness carnival next week. Our team awards have Calais Hamlett as blazers MVP, runner up was close but Kylinda George wins this narrowly shading Elouise Issacs who was a strong contributor and the Reginald Carmichael Johnson award goes to Annashae Michael who really did everything the team needed including . 14.01.2022 Announcing the Ashwin Blazers as Back to Back champions of the Basketball Innovations Competition at Mirrabooka A Grade - Division 2. After winning only 5 games during the season and scraping into the finals in 8th position, the Blazers boys got back some key players and clicked into Blazers Basketball at the right time. Starting with a comeback win in the Semi final on the back of a scintillating 2nd half performance. The boys listened to the call to bring that same inte...Continue reading

13.01.2022 The 2019 Indigenous Awareness Carnival January 24-27th was the biggest representation at a tournament in the Ashwin Blazers history. With 2 junior girls u19 teams and 2 senior men’s teams and 1 senior woman’s team, it was a proud time to see the yellow of the blazers stand out over 4 days of competition. Unfortunately, the Ashwin family had recently experienced a tragic loss of a kind-hearted father who always showed respect and love for family. Black arm bands were worn as...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Congratulations the blazers men and women on making it to the Grand final in the basketball innovations competition at mirrabooka. For the men, this season has been a grind. Starting the season 1-4 on the bottom of the ladder, then going on a 7 game winning streak to get the season back on track. Then the biggest ever loss when we had most of our players out. Then finishing the season with 3 strong character wins including a 2 point win against Triple A's. Last week agains...t the top team IDKY we showed our improvement. We have more than any other team , earnt our place to compete for a championship. For the women, they started off with a bunch of players who mostly had not played together before. Early stages we managed to beat the weaker teams but lost to the stronger teams starting the season 4-3. However, we grew stronger and developed a system that suited our team. We finished the season on 8-1 run ending with a record of 12-4 and a dominant percentage of 163.13%. We are the form team of the competition, However, 3 of our losses were against Pink Kats and they remain the only team we haven't defeated. We have now developed our system and we have the plan and the players to beat this team. Both teams have the momentum to give us confidence that we can win this. However, we now have to execute and take it. Let's get this! Any supporters who want come down this Saturday 1st December, the men play at 3.30pm and women play at 4.40pm at herb Graham recreation centre, mirrabooka. After the games you welcome to come to 14 brockmill Avenue beechboro for a barbecue and drinks.

10.01.2022 Good day today with mixed results. Women had a slow start losing all their games however, nearly pulled off a win in their last game, going down by 1. The men's 2 team battled hard for 1-4 result. Losing 2 players for their last 2 games they showed alot of pride and fought it out. The men's 1 team had great start with a record of 4-1. The loss was a 1 point loss with Lathan Vincent missing a foul shot after the siren to get a draw. The boys have really come together and give themselves a good chance to compete with the top teams tomorrow.

10.01.2022 Another season gone! Though both men and women teams made the Grand final and lost by 2 points. The difference couldn't be starker. The girls played the Pink Kats, a dominant team with a significant size, experience and physical advantage. Our girls had never beaten this team in the 3 meetings throughout the season so this was going to be a challenge. Tied at halftime 18-18, our 3-1-1 trapping defense on the ball was very effective at times and we had the better of the ope...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Attention to all the Ashwin Blazers family we have reached a year since reigniting the team in October last year. On the 11th Nov we will be holding our inaugural team celebration to recognize our achievements throughout the year. The event will be held at 14 Brockmill Ave Beechboro. 02.01.2022 The Ashwin Blazers women's and men's teams played last Saturday games in remembrance and respect for one of our family members who died suddenly in tragic circumstances a few days before. The Ashwin blazers family sends their deepest sympathies to Trimmer and Sharon Humes, to all the kids and immediate loved ones as well as the Adams family. We played these games with great intent with thoughts of JH and you guys in the forefront of our minds. The girls played the top team a...nd a team who has won the last few seasons. We only had 5 players missing a couple of our stars. We played with great desire and courage and it was really our own mistakes that ended up losing the game 46-38. I could not fault our efforts and we learn alot from the game to take into the finals. Tanika Vincent really showed the way with a very efficient scoring game with 15 points including 3 three pointers along with outstanding rebounding, well supported at the back by Joanne Humphries (2 points) and Shelley Coleman (3 points) competing hard against girls much bigger and taller than them. Our front court of Nyra Anderson (10 points) and Calais Hamlett (8 points) were dynamic and really pressed their guards and tested their legs in open court. Really proud of the girls The men's team played the 3rd on the ladder in A grade and played a superb game from start to finish with a slight hiccup early in the second half when Peter Humphries called a time out and pulled us back in line. A big win in the end 59-36 by 23 points was a fantastic result particularly without our captain and MVP Rene jnr who is in Leonora and one of the husslekings Brendan Edwards who is injured. The team was well led by Corey Bennell (13 points), Michael Boot (11 points) who continually collapsed the defence and created opportunities, Rene Reddingius snr (8 points) was solid and Lathan Vincent had monster game and really showed up for his bro with 24 points and a mountain of contested boards which will be important come carnival time. Peter Humphries brought back his physical presence in his best game since his surgery and Joshua Taraia played his linking role and team defense as he usually does. However, special needs to go to the efforts of Corey who really showed the importance of this game to the team and the family with a defensive effort that just made you feel in awe of his talent. Stealing the ball consistently from his opponent in straight up, face to face, one on one battles including in open court was demoralizing for the opposition. Can't wait to see more. So proud of the boys and their spirit. Alot of respect was shown even by the opposition. RIP JH
