23.01.2022 The success of our COVID-19 Racism Incident Report has collected almost 500 incidents of racism against Asians/Asian Australians. 23.01.2022 Being racially attacked is a very lonesome and traumatic experience it doesn’t matter about the severity, it’s the stunned feeling of being violated and treated differently because of who you are. Asian Australian Alliance National Convenor and Founder Erin Chew said it was important to remember that COVID-19 was not the cause of racism in Australia, but was a symptom of the larger issue of racism in Australia. It really demonstrates how insidious the racism is and how COVID-19 has been used as an excuse for people to act on their racist intentions, she said. 21.01.2022 Thank you Anne Aly for making a strong speech in Parliament today and ensuring that Alan Tudge couldn't ignore the calls to address Senator Eric Abetz' behaviou...r when he "loyalty tested" 3 Chinese Australians during a recent Senate Hearing. Your words are extremely important. As Aly said, 2 former Prime Ministers Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull have publicly said that Abetz must apologise. Thank you for signing our "Open Letter" and mentioning it in your speech!

19.01.2022 #ProtectUsAll Our major world religions and traditions teaches us to love one another and treat everyone as we would like to be treated, not hate and discriminate. Everyone deserves to live, study, and work with dignity, no matter what they believe, who they are, or whom they love. We’ve joined 90 religious and civil organisations in opposing One Nation NSW’s Religion Bill, calling for fair and equal discrimination laws which protect all of us, including people of faith and those who are not religious, equally alongside other groups. protectusall.com.au

17.01.2022 ‘...most white Australians have a less-developed understanding of racism and the lived experience of their culturally diverse counterparts around the country... It's something Ms Floro can relate to, and as the frequency of conversations around race politics rise in her personal and work life, she has noticed herself becoming more exhausted. "It's the conversations, it's the listening, it's the unpaid emotional labour that keeps consistently happening," she says. "I don't wan...t to constantly spell out information about the very fibre of my being." She's often the only person of colour in the room when race is discussed, and feels pressure to engage. "I have to choose between staying silent or constantly policing racism," she says’ See more
16.01.2022 1. We are saddened but not surprised with the findings of a new study from the Australian National University (ANU) where its survey of more than 3,000 people found 84.5 per cent of Asian Australians reported at least one instance of discrimination between January and October this year. 2. COVID-19 racism is the Racism of the Decade for Asian Australians and it’s probably one of the worst since the Racial Discrimination Act was passed by the Australian Parliament in 1975. 3. ...The idea of associating Asian Australians and Asians in Australia with the Coronavirus just because it was first discovered in Wuhan, China is just bizarre and totally unacceptable. 4. It just demonstrates the low level of understanding of certain members of the society about Australian History and culture. 5. No one in Australia should be carrying fear when walking on the street or shopping at the supermarket just because of their skin colour. 6. If Asian Australians who were born and grown up in Australia are subject to racial discrimination, what can temporary visa holders such as international students and migrant workers expect when living, studying or working in Australia? 7. Unfortunately, there are still many key decision makers including political leaders, who think that this is not a major problem or treat racism as if they are isolated incidents. If you hold this view, you are either in denial syndrome or out of touch with what is happening on the ground. 8. We understand that racism may not be something that people want to talk about. But the fact is, you can’t address racism without talking about racism. Everything starts from having the conversation. 9. Research and surveys have shown that this is an ongoing issue in the community and the COVID-19 pandemic has just amplified what has been toxic in the Australian fabric of multicultural society. 10. We need a National Anti-Racism Strategy to address this immediately which should also include an Anti-Media Racism Strategy as part of the broader strategy. 13.01.2022 Hey Everyone!!!! Please take the time to read and share this signed open letter among your networks. We have delivered a copy of this letter to Minister Alan Tudge MP to address the concerns of the community over the "loyalty testing" of Eric Abetz towards Osmond Chiu and 2 other Chinese Australians who were providing evidence at a recent Senate Hearing. Abetz has since doubled down instead of addressing his wrong doings and apologising. Over 130 signatories have asked that ...Minister Tudge: 1. Request Senator Eric Abetz apologise to the three witnesses at the hearing (Osmond Chiu, Yun Jiang and Wesa Chau) for questioning their loyalties and allegiances on the basis of their cultural backgrounds; 2. Issue a statement with Prime Minister Scott Morrison addressing this situation clearly and directly, reassuring the Chinese Australian community that this line of loyalty testing was unacceptable behaviour and will not happen again in any capacity. Please share and circulate...
13.01.2022 COVID-19 RACISM INCIDENT REPORT UPDATE Here is our current press statement on an update on results for the COVID-19 Coronavirus Racism Incident Report.Coming towards the 2 month mark we have received 380 reports of COVID-19 related racism in Australia. "The STOP AAPI HATE reporting centre which is tracking the number of COVID-19 racism related incidents in the USA against Asian Americans, has recorded around 1,710 reports in a six week period. Taking population proportions into consideration, this demonstrates that the COVID-19 Coronavirus Racism Incident Report has approximately 30% proportionately more reports of anti-Asian racism in Australia in comparison to the American counterparts."
12.01.2022 This article fulfills the void of the extent of whose to blame .. all governments China, USA, SE Asia have their share .. On the other hand , the collateral denigration of Chinese culture & ancestry frankly is a disgusting scapegoating exercise ..
11.01.2022 Some recent meetings of the Asian Australian Alliance in relation to COVID19 related racial abuse with various stakeholders . Thanks to the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria and the Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission for taking a lead in organising some of these stakeholder consultations and in working collaboratively to develop an institutional response. We also caught up with Australian Race Discrimination Commissioner Chin Tan and former Australian Race Discrimination Commissioner Tim Soupthmoussane to discuss the racism incident report we have undertaken with Per Capita Fellow Osmond Chiu. We will be releasing a report of our survey on COVID 19 relayed racism soon. We are also working on an action plan as well as a resource page based on the results of our report.

07.01.2022 Hi guys - for any of our supporters who are interested: "My name is Shawn and I am an honours student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT). I am currently conducting an anonymous online study with the aim of measuring the effects of acculturation, perceived social support and COVID-19 related racial discrimination on the mental health of Asian Australians. As I have been trying to get participants for the study, I was informed to contact you in ord...er to discuss more about this topic. As such, I was hoping that we could have a discussion and possibly the chance to receive your assistance with promoting this study. This research has been approved by the RMIT Ethics Committee and has the potential benefits of providing Asian Australians an opportunity to voice their perspective and experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also contributing to the wider literature that is currently evaluating the mental health consequences of the pandemic. " Here is the link to the survey: https://rmit.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5uVFrgjOw3vozHv Details on the flyer below if you are interested!
05.01.2022 AAA’s NSW Convenor Thomson Ch’ng spoke to SBS Mandarin recently on media racism in Australia. Racism in the media i.e Racist opinion pieces are cancer on Australian Multiculturalism. Media especially media commentators play an influential role in shaping public perceptions. For this very reason and in order to address racism in the community, we must first address media racism.
