18.01.2022 Bryce liked the look of this ASI family at Coffin Bay. Nice dark colour, hard shell and a great shape. Survived well too 99% survival since last measured (other families had up to 20% mortality). This is a very likely commercial candidate.

17.01.2022 From the team at ASI, we wish you all a happy Christmas and safe New Year.

15.01.2022 We're so pleased to have won the 2019 Tasmanian Industry Seafood Awards in Research, Development and Extension in our Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS) work. As with any big achievement like this, it's always a team effort. Thanks to CSIRO and Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS for their contributions.

14.01.2022 Kind words from Lila Landowski who won the The Minister for Science and Technology's Tasmanian STEM Communicator of the Year Award. Lila is passionate about communicating science to a large audience and is doing an outstanding job! Thank you for your support Lila.

14.01.2022 We're very grateful to have won the 2019 National Seafood Industry Awards (NSIA) in Research, Development and Extension! The NSIA recognises and celebrating the positive contributions of individuals, partnerships, businesses and organisations towards a sustainable and profitable Australian seafood industry. Thanks again to CSIRO and Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS for their contributions.

12.01.2022 Thank you to ABC Hobart breakfast show with Ryk Goddard for having us. "In France it took ten years, in New Zealand it took five. Following the 2016 POMS (Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome) outbreak in oysters in Tasmania the industry has bounced back within just three years. This has happened so quickly as a result of proactive work and research done by the Australian Seafood Industry and their counterparts. Marine Scientist Lewa spoke to ABC Hobart Breakfast's Ryk Goddard" - ABC Radio

11.01.2022 This is our daily routine for Pacific Oyster rearing. Each tank contains one family and their genetics can be traced back several generations through our data. Tanks are dropped each day for cleaning and oyster larvae are caught on screens. Under the microscope you can see "D-shaped" larvae, which form after 24 hours of fertilisation. They freely swim using projections called "cilia, which propels them towards food.

09.01.2022 During our off-season we made some significant improvements with our SA breeding hub at SARDI, which has produced excellent results. Both Bryce and John recently visited the facility and reported they were very impressed by the quality of spat they deployed. So a big thanks to Mark Gluis and the team at SARDI for all the hard work. The first lot of 2020 spat has been deployed for our survival trial and we have many more to come in 2021.

09.01.2022 Welcome to our nursery where our spat live. They are washed, cleaned and fed every day.

06.01.2022 Thank you for your support Greg Smith and Andrew Trotter from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS. We’re pleased to have shared this moment with you.

05.01.2022 What’s your favourite oyster recipe?

04.01.2022 Last week we started our breeding season in Tasmania. We're operating at the IMAS-ASI Biosecurity Facility and have finished two rounds of successful spawnings. Thanks to CSIRO for lending a hand with tissue sampling. We're also currently collaborating with Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS on lab work for POMS trials. Watch this space!

01.01.2022 Australia's Minister for Industry, Science & Technology, Karen Andrews MP visited the IMAS-ASI Biosecurity Facility at Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS Taroona last Wednesday. She was interested in seeing the work we've been doing in selective breeding for POMS resistance - a disease that nearly wiped out the Pacific Oyster industry in early 2016. We have been collaborating with IMAS on creating a biosecure facility which allows us to continue making gains in POMS resistance. Our collaboration was funded by the Future Oysters CRC-P Department of industry, innovation and Science; a collaboration between industry, government and a number of research organisations and universities. 01.01.2022 We're incredibly honoured to have won The Minister for Science and Technology's Tasmanian STEM Innovation of the Year Award. We couldn't have done it with out our collaborators: Csiro Marine & Atmospheric Research, Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS and industry members. Thank you again Michael Ferguson for this opportunity.
