22.01.2022 Kiama's Blowhole is going off today! Nature is amazing
22.01.2022 A little bit about FEAR... Fear manifests in many forms. It comes from ego, bravado, control, embarrassment, hurt and vulnerability. Fear is the barrier preventing you from opening-up, finding love and being whole. Not love in the romantic sense but love for who you are, what you do and what you stand for. Wholistic love. Recognition of fear, facing fear, walking alongside fear and transitioning the energy fear brings and using it to overcome fear. That is power.
22.01.2022 So excited I received my certificate for volunteering at YABUN this year! Looking forward to next year...
21.01.2022 We have been catching bath water to put on the garden and look at what has grown from saving water. Amidst all this chaos there is still beauty all around us, look for it and it will find you!
19.01.2022 Today's insight ... There is no evidence of differences between the brains of a man and a woman, there is no evidence of men being better leaders than women. Social construction of gender stereotypes can be deconstructed when women share this message and stand together shoulder to shoulder. ... We should all be mentors for others and allow others (no matter their age, experience, background, class, etc) to mentor us. This is the way we, as women, will move forward. Together! Hope this inspires you!

16.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day. This day is significant to many of my Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friends and everyone they know. It is a day of recognition not only for the atrocities (there are no appropriate words) that have occurred in Australia's history. A history where the European story remains predominant. It's time for Australian's to recognise the bountiful history and knowledge our fellow Indigenous Australian's can teach us. I pay my respects to you all, thank you for the knowledge you have instilled within me so I can share it with others and acknowledge Australia's black history. My thoughts are with you all on this day!

10.01.2022 What is organisational politics and how do they play out in the workplace? Here is an excerpt from an interesting article I read recently on this topic. "The Chairman used his formal power to stop the changes. He would constantly question decisions agreed with the management team, change his mind from one meeting to the next, stop agreed allocation of resources to new structures, and take people off the special task forces, without notification. Here we see the formal use of ...hard power to satisfy self-interest over the firm’s longer-term value." This Chairman is a person we have all met at some point in our careers. The use of 'hard power' relates directly to ego and self-interest. It disadvantages organisations through limiting input by other employees. Our relationships with our employees and consumers are the most important ones we hold. Working to create positive relationships and putting aside ego to allow others to shine is a challenging task that many are not able to achieve. What kind of social impact do you want to project? 09.01.2022 If mental health is something you are interested in, read point 3 of this article. By 2030 the mental health services 'gap' could be a thing of the past (depending on whether individuals have the capacity to self-manage their own care). I feel this is ingenious and controversial given the complexity mental health brings to the table. I would be interested in your thoughts on how you think this would affect the provision of mental health services in the future. https://www.weforum.org//future-predictions-what-if-get-t/,

02.01.2022 Celebrating International Women's Day today was done by attending the "All About Women" satellite event with Shellharbour City Council. The first speaker was particularly interesting. Gina Rippon is a neuro-scientist who has authored a book that has received high levels of criticism from her (mostly male) peers within the scientific community. She even has a male colleague who contacts journalists after they write something about her recent book to disparage her works (she ...must be doing something right if there is such a high level of fear that she may receive accolades for her years of hard work). Some of the main take aways I found interesting are: 1. There are no organic differences between the brains of a man and a woman therefore gender disparity is socially constructed (this debunks a huge myth). 2. If you tell someone they will not be good at something, they generally won't. If you tell someone they will be great at something, they generally will. A sense of belonging and acceptance is vital in order to bring out the best in others. 3. The brain constructs rules through experiences and these experiences determine future expectations. Challenge any negative experiences you may have that prevent you from moving forward. 4. If we challenge and change perspectives about stereotypical gender beliefs then the brains of others do have the ability to adapt to new ways of thinking and the world can begin to be viewed differently, from a position closer to that of gender equality. 5. The power of storytelling from the youngest of ages as possible will build understanding, resilience and break down gender boundaries. 6. This little gem had the most powerful impact. This is an expression Gina knows (not wrote so I'm uncertain who to credit this to)... "If you have lived a life of privilege then equality can feel like opression" My 7 year old daughters take away.... "don't ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do anything in life", "boys don't have to wear blue, girls don't have to wear pink" and "girls can be scientists and play with Lego". May all you fabulous women go forth, be who you are without guilt or shame and achieve with abandon! Happy International Womens Day! XXX
01.01.2022 Over the last week I have spoken to some really strong and intelligent people who are very resilient and have loads of courage. If you, like my friends, are used to managing the ups and downs of life and you take most things in your stride don't be surprised if present day life throws you a few unexpected curve balls. Even the most capable people are being ovewhelmed during these times. It happens to the best of us. The best way to work through what is going on right now is to maintain your sense of community whilst maintaining your social distance. Don't stop reaching out to make sure others are OK and remember to share laughter at this time. Laughing is so simple but so important. It releases endorphins that help us feel less stressed. Take some time out if it all becomes too much but don't stop connecting with others!
