13.01.2022 Federal Budget 2019 Highlights: - Personal Income Tax Cuts. You could be getting double the amount of money you expected when you file your 2019 tax return. Last year, low and middle-income earners were promised a tax cut of $530 from July 2019. That will nearly double to $1,080. A dual-income household will save $2,160; - Lowering the 32.5% tax rate to 30% from 1 July 2024. 11.01.2022 Negative Gearing and Capital Gains Tax proposed changes happened to be hot topics in the Federal Election campaign. We get calls from our clients on daily basis asking for potential implications. So here is a summary of the proposed changes: - The ability to negatively gear established properties purchased for investment from January 1, 2020 will be abolished. Purchases after this date can only be negatively geared if they are brand new or off-the-plan properties; - All prope...rties negatively geared prior to January 1 will be grandfathered, meaning these investors can continue to use negative gearing on that investment - An intent to decrease the capital gains tax discount from 50% to 25% for all investors after January 1. The discount applies to investors who hold their assets for more than one year. Investors who owned assets prior to January 1 will receive the original 50% discount. Below is statistics of occupations who make most use of negative gearing. Statistics also show that 2 in 3 investors who negatively gear own just one property and earn less than $80,000 per annum these aren’t investors who negative gear their investment as a way of reducing their taxes, they do it as the only way can afford to secure an investment property and build some long-term security. 11.01.2022 Australian Government Stimulus Package Over the past week we have received a high volume of calls about the Stimulus Package announced by the Prime Minister. Please note that legislation has not been passed yet and is expected to be passed by the Senate by the end of this month. Some of the common questions our business clients have asked are in relation to eligibility criteria for cash flow assistance for businesses. Please see Cash Flow Assistance summary and Eligibility ...Criteria below: 1. Summary The Boosting Cash Flow for Employers measure will provide up to $25,000 back to business, with a minimum payment of $2,000 for eligible businesses. The payment will provide temporary cash flow support to small and medium businesses that employ staff. The payment will be tax free. Eligibility Small and medium business entities with aggregated annual turnover under $50 million and that employ workers will be eligible. 2. Eligibility will generally be based on prior year turnover. The payment will be delivered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a credit in the activity statement system from 28 April 2020 upon businesses lodging eligible upcoming activity statements. Eligible businesses that withhold tax to the ATO on their employees’ salary and wages will receive a payment equal to 50 per cent of the amount withheld, up to a maximum payment of $25,000. Eligible businesses that pay salary and wages will receive a minimum payment of $2,000, even if they are not required to withhold tax. This measure will benefit around 690,000 businesses employing around 7.8 million people. If you require further assistance please email us on [email protected] to schedule an appointment.
