20.01.2022 "Only a commander who understands logistics can push the military machine to the limits without risking total breakdown". -MAJGEN Julian Thompson, Royal Marines... Logisticians are essential to the fight. Ultimately, they must make informed judgments on these matters, occasionally using intuition and scientifically weighing alternatives as required by the situation. Deductions must be based not only upon professional knowledge of logistics but also upon an understanding of the interplay of other stakeholders in the battlespace. Combining the Combat Officers’ Advanced Course (COAC) and the Logistics Officers’ Intermediate Course (LOIC) is an important part of developing cohesion and understanding. Robust synchronisation between Combat and Logistics functions is the soul of good tactics.

04.01.2022 The purpose of the Combat Officers’ Advanced Course (COAC) is to educate and train Army’s combat captains in the skills, knowledge and attitudes to be successfu...l Combat Team Commanders and Battle Group OPSOs at warfighting in the contemporary operating environment. Module Three of COAC is the culminating activity of the course and is designed to provide COAC attendees with the environment and setting to mature and develop as professional commanders and planners. This consists of an intensive two-week Simulated Planning Exercise that integrates COAC and the Logistic Officer’s Intermediate Course, and involves the concurrent planning and execution of integrated Brigade and Battle Group manoeuvre in a simulated high intensity conflict against a live and adaptive adversary. Course attendees fulfil positions as principal staff officers in Brigade and Battle Group HQs and visiting Battalion COs hold command positions. Participants are required to plan, communicate and execute operations within compressed planning timelines. Battlespace actions are replicated via Constructive simulation to provide the required injects, interaction and friction.
