25.01.2022 Here are some pictures of the winners and placegetters at yesterdays Janboree event at Burwood RSL. There are were six divisions of 10 players playing a 9 game Round Robin. Division F was entirely comprised of kids. Results further below.

21.01.2022 Eight-year old Jeffrey Lam stole the show at todays Youth tournament held at Black Muscat Park on the shores of the Georges River, Chipping Norton today. Not only did he win the tournament but he achieved a massive high game score of 701 and a high word score of 140 for the word DEPOSITS in the record game. Here is the board and the scoresheet:

19.01.2022 Divisional winners at yesterdays Central Coast Jack Frost tournament were Rod Talbot (A Division), Sandra Elliott (B Division) and Julie Banister (B Division).

19.01.2022 58 players took part in the City of Sydney International Masters over the Australia Day weekend. After 18 games over the two days, Andrew Fisher emerged victorious with 13 wins by spread over Edward Okulicz and Ryan Sutton. The next three placegetters were all on 12 wins - David Eldar, Naween Fernando and Trevor Halsall. Pictured further below are the 6 placegetters from right to left. Winners of Rating band prizes were Arnold Appelhof and Hanne Marks in the 1000 to 1250 band..., Lexie Neale and Norma Tracey in the 1250 to 1400 band and Paul Richards and Carmel Dodd in the 1400 to 1600 band. Adam Kretschmer (SA) took out the award for the best first time player with 11 wins while Noel Barrett (ACT) won the best medical word prize with TYMPANIC. Russell Honeybun (WA) recorded the high game of 668 while Carmel Dodd (SA) got to high word score of 154 for her EROTEMAS. The highest rating gainer was Ryan Sutton (NSW) with 126 points gained. 16.01.2022 The final of the NSW Homes Challenge was played out at the Revesby Workers Club last weekend with the organiser and State President Bob Jackman emerging as the eventual winner over Rod Talbot. Ivor Zetler won the side event over Sharon Sorensen. The tournament got off to a shaky start with two players arriving ten minutes after the scheduled start of play and the computer equipment arriving one hour later. Margaret Berliner got gifted a 119 play for FISTIER in the Side Event... to record the high scoring word for the day. 14.01.2022 The very first post COVID tournament - COVID-19 Beecroft Marathon hosted by Dr Ivor Zetler at his beautiful home yesterday, 12 diehard scrabblers attended , 13 games, great food all day , the delectable Thai dinner and post dinner entertainment- musical clips of Leonard Cohen and The Beatles, and catch up with our close scrabble family made the day very special ! 13.01.2022 At the Central Coast Yuletide tournament yesterday Trish Windhurst was the stellar performer bagging the first prize with 6 wins (+ 595 ), the overall central coast champion award as well as the highest rating gain of + 57, well done Trish ! Joanne Craig finished second with 6 wins (+449) and Ivor Zetler 3rd with 6 wins(+ 159) Milestone Badges also awarded to Monica Dwyer for reaching 1000 games and to Veena Mohe for 2000 games , some pictures

11.01.2022 The Mystery word prize had jackpotted to $350 and was won by Mr Arie Holla for sixteen this evening ! This was the first word he played in his very first game of the tournament ( interestingly , to claim this prize, the word needs to be recorded in ones scorebook , coincidentally this was the only word Mr Holla made a note of, in the entire tournament )

Chris sets up winning play of PATCH with Bob holding DERRICK and Chris left with WY, scores level at 454. Note 6 tile overlap of CAROUSAL by Chris for 87 and 3 moves later AFFIX for 89 also by Chris. Bobs three natural bingoes were not enough!

07.01.2022 Scrabble NSW has two annual awards presented at the State Championship. They are the Joan Rosenthal award presented to the player who gains the most rating points in the past year and the Jan Serisier award to the high rating gainer of the year who gained the most rating points over the Championship. This year the Joan Rosenthal award was won by Josie Mally who gained 151 points over the year, while the Jan Serisier award was won by Chris Ostrowski of who gained 60 points over the championship.

06.01.2022 The City of Sydney Masters is scheduled to take place on 27th and 28th January at the vibrant Bankstown Sports Club, southern Sydney. Open to locals over 1000 in ratings and all International players, there will be 18 games over the two days. Another 8 games are available in the preceding one day Australia Day Open on 26th, open to all. All details of the CSIM are on the dedicated web site linked below, including names of existing entries. The flyer carries essential info.
