Described by Chair of the Jury Malcolm Snow as Australia’s peak urban design accolade, the awards bring together experts from planning, architecture and landscape architecture, the three design disciplines which combine to create exemplary urban design. Darling Square in Sydney was awarded an Australian Urban Design Award for Built Projects at the Lo...cal and Neighbourhood Scale. Our Sydney Science Park Master Plans picked up a commendation in the Leadership, Advocacy and Research, City and Regional Scale category, while the CBD and South East Light Rail also received a commendation in the Built Projects, City and Regional Scale category. 16.01.2022 With summer now here in Victoria, we’re excited to see the new spaces created by the removal of the Toorak Road Level Crossing coming to life and being enjoyed by local residents. On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025. The Toorak Road Level Crossing Removal was removed in April 2020 and is the first of a number of Level Crossing Removals that ASPECT Studios are... delivering with the South Eastern Program Alliance (Laing O'Rourke, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and Metro Trains Melbourne). It is wonderful to see all of the hard work by ASPECT Studios and the wider Alliance come to fruition with a vibrant new open space created for locals to enjoy, with new cycle and pedestrian connections completing the missing links into nearby Parklands and the Gardiners Creek Trail. : Paul Pilcher #metro #infrastructure #VIC #Melbourne #landscapearchitecture

10.01.2022 We’re looking forward to seeing students being able to use this newly completed space at Deakin University soon. The Learning Commons area is a point of arrival and hub for the Elgar Campus and creates a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. The area has been created within the existing steep topography and providing multi-functional spaces that encouraged and promoted student life ‘beyond the classroom’. With the use of mostly native plants, outdoor seating spaces have... been designed for casual use and to support a café. This area includes awnings and trees have been planted to provide shade and provides an area for gathering to eat. As part of the wider concept for the site SLAB landscape architects have created a Contemplative Garden adjacent to the creek environment. Thanks to SLAB and our other collaborators Woods Bagot.

08.01.2022 Young Street Plaza - North Sydney Council’s most recent project to create a new post-COVID public space - is now undergoing construction. During the construction stage, a trial period for implementing a temporary plaza has been commissioned to assess the effects of the closure and assist in decision making for permanent road closure and the future plaza of Neutral Bay. The temporary plaza will provide an attractive destination for both visitors and locals; stimulate the vill...age activity and economy, while create an active recreation space for all ages. Our design imagines a playful urban oasis that puts people first and transforms a once traffic dominated street into a place of respite and delight for the residents of Neutral Bay. The space features a vibrant native flora inspired floor graphic and a series of social seating pods and planters, allowing neighbours to meet and relax under the existing mature trees. A central pavilion and lawn provide a focal point and flexible space for community use and performances. Construction of the temporary plaza has commenced, and the trial period will be until March 2021. https://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au//Cou/Young_Street_Plaza
