24.01.2022 Announcing our next full-day presentation in Sydney on Asperger's Syndrome and Relationships - Saturday 2 November 2019. Open to individuals, couples, professionals, anyone interested.

24.01.2022 More learning from our November partner support group meeting: Many/most individuals on the Spectrum (Autism/Aspergers) have a tendency to display "Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)". They have difficulty tolerating being asked to do anything. As Jeroen shared - "adults on the spectrum will only achieve what they want to achieve, or what they agree to achieve". Many/most partners will be able to identify with this dynamic in the relationship, and the sense of helplessness/powerlessness to secure cooperation or a sense of working together and being a team or proper partnership.

14.01.2022 Our first meeting for 2020 is this coming Saturday 8th February at Club Burwood (Sydney). Our Presenter is Nola Norris, a long-time group member of ASPIA who was inspired to do a PhD after hearing guest speakers at ASPIA. Nola now teaches and writes about memory and learning in high-functioning autism and is always looking for clearer explanations of the brain mechanisms that affect partner relationships on a daily basis. She does this with the conviction that increased conce...ptual understanding is an important coping and well-being tool for partners. The topic is 'Sense of self and time in Asperger syndrome'. Three questions will be raised: Why does my partner appear to have no (or limited) sense of the passing of time? Why is it so difficult for her/him to ‘join the dots’? (cause and effect) Why does she/he seem to attach so much significance to objects? (identity) Please join us for this great educational session, and opportunity for discussion and mutual support. All other meeting details are on the ASPIA website.

Eleanor will begin with a bit of an overview of ASD in relationships for those who are new-ish to the group, or to the topic, and then she'll open the meeting up for a question and discussion time.
