21.01.2022 Over the past 2 months we have ran 4 Friday Night Squad Competitions in lead up to the Athletics North Queensland NQ Championship. With little to no competitions this year it’s been a great chance for the athletes to compete against each other over various distances in a competitive environment. This year has been most challenging but we are very grateful that we have sport and are able to do what we do. 12.01.2022 Fantastic weather for this afternoons @cairnsdynamicrunning event brought big 5km PBs for @grace_runner_ in 19:54 and @giaantippet who came close to that 20min barrier. A solid solo run from @nicholas.fogale to take the W in the 5km. Also donning the dress we had @_jordan_ias_ who stepped up to the 10km. 07.01.2022 8 years ago I sat down with this 11yo buck teethed kid @liamgilbertt and we set a goal of meeting the World Junior Qualification for the Decathlon. We dipped our toes in a variety of events from Cross Country to 400mH but the Decathlon was always the event we were set on. We have had our challenges over the years but always found a way to get the work done. We caught wind of this competition only 12 weeks ago so began the build following the @athleticsnorthqld season. We kne...w what needed to improve following NQ champs and we got to work. Over that 12 weeks Liam took control of his training, listened to his body and did all the little things right. Day one of competition we were on track with 3777 points, day 1 PB by over 200 points. Day 2 started well with equal PB in the hurdles but then took a turn following a very average discus. Liam gathered himself, came back out to PB in his last 3 events Pole Vault 4m, Javelin 44.96m. Going in to the 1500m we knew to meet the standard of 7100 he had to run a 4:45 1500m. He backed himself with the big boys and ran a strong smart race to finish in 4:43 which surpassed the 2020 World Junior Qualification standard with a score of 7132. Although no revised standards have been released for the postponed World Junior Championships in 2021, this give us confidence moving forward that things are moving in the right direction. An amazing competition to witness the Australian and Oceania Area record go down by @ash_moloney and two Olympic Qualifier for both @cedricdubler and Ash, this event will go down in the history books. 03.01.2022 Only a small squad to contest at QA All Schools Boys Track and Field Championships this year. We had @liamgilbertt @lukemclellan and @xsimms93 represent the squad and produced some great results. Xavier ran to PBs in the 100/200 double running 5th and 6th respectively. Luke ran a huge PB in the 100M in 11.14 but it was the 200m where he produced a 22.04 to come home with the medal. Liam’s last schools competition had some mixed results but still managed to defend his 110H St...ate championship to win the event for the 4th year in a row and a PB. Also finished runner-up in the Discus and Shot Put and threw the 6kg Shot over Meter than he has done so in a competition to throw 14.68m. Promising signs for his next Decathlon WJ attempt in December. Excellent results from the boys with only 3 of the boys heading down and bringing home 4 medals.
