24.01.2022 | P U P P Y A L E R T | Isnt she adorable? Meet Willow, our newest recruit! Willow came in to meet Dr Danielle for her vaccinations, and she won everyone over with her gorgeous friendly nature - and that smile! Lucky for her, she had her older sister Sydnee with her to show her how to be brave for her needles! SWIPE to see her enjoying the some cuddles with Dr Danielle and to see Willow fitting right in with the rest of her fur family (Koda, Blaze and Sydnee) . #aspleyveterinarypractice #aspleyvet #puppycuddles #puppyvaccinations #needles #puppyatthevet #bebrave #sisterlove #furfamily #borderbunch

22.01.2022 | T I C K S | Tick season is definitely upon us! We have seen four cases of tick paralysis in the last week and our local emergency centres are swamped!! Please make sure your pets are on effective tick control, tick paralysis is now thankfully such a preventable disease! Did you know they have now made bravecto for cats? Take comfort knowing your kitties are safe from this awful parasite, and give us a call or pop in to pick up one for your pets

21.01.2022 Don't forget about them because they're so stoic! Often owners can miss the signs of arthritis in their aging cats due to the fact that cats are so good at hiding any signs of pain until it gets too much. If you're concerned that your kitty may be getting sore in their old age please give us a call at the clinic to have a chat and make an appointment with one of our vets. There are lots of things that can be changed/included (medically and environmentally) into their daily life to help your ageing kitty feel comfortable for many years to come.

13.01.2022 | P I R A T E | Little Pete is recovering well from his big procedure today! Pirate Pete had a damaged eye from severe cat flu as a young kitten. Dr Danielle successfully removed the damaged eye today (called an enucleation) while he was in for desexing. This will help prevent his eye from causing further problems in the future. Lucky Pete still has his left eye, lots of cuddles and a very trendy pirate patch souvenir! - If you would like to read more about Pirate Petes story, check out Gary and the Handicats rescue group on Facebook.

10.01.2022 | P A I N | September is Animal Pain Awareness month, which we think is so important to celebrate as animals arent always able to tell us when (and where) it hurts. One of the most common causes of pain in animals is osteoarthritis. Similar to in humans, this can occur in older animals due to wear and tear, or secondary to an old joint injury. Some breeds are also genetically prone to orthopaedic diseases (such as elbow dysplasia or hip dysplasia) which will result on oste...oarthritis as well. Because arthritis is a chronic condition, meaning signs will progress slowly over time, it can be a disease that is easy to miss at home. Signs that your pet may have arthritis include slowing down with age, difficulty rising, slow to sit or lie down, difficulty with stairs, or limping (after resting or after a lot of activity). We also find that the signs of arthritis are usually exacerbated by the cold weather of winter. ______________________________ Above is a photo of an elbow radiograph of a 9yo German Shepherd who has been getting a bit stiff lately. The image shows some osteophytes, which is new bone growth around the joint, and consistent with arthritis. Unfortunately arthritis is usually a progressive disease, however there are diets, supplements, medications and surgeries that can be used to help slow progress and alleviate discomfort associated with this silent disease. If you have noticed your pet showing any signs that might indicate arthritis, particularly over winter, schedule an appointment with one of our vets, as we would love to discuss the options to help manage your pets pain #aspleyveterinarypractice #aspleyvet #animalpainawarenessmonth #arthritis #osteoarthritis #veterinaryradiology #dogofinstagram #catsofinstagram #petsofinstagram See more
