05.01.2022 What are fissure sealants? The back teeth (molars) have natural fissures / grooves where food and bacteria can get stuck into and can be very difficult to clean. Overtime there is high probability they cause tooth decay. Fissure seals are thin coatings placed over these grooves to help form a protective layer. It may stop the food from getting in the tiny grooves in the teeth and thereby, reduces the risk of tooth decay.
