24.01.2022 And we’re off!

22.01.2022 Research shows that parents who move, inspire their children to move. In fact in one study, researchers put pedometers on parents and their kids and measured th...e results. The kids ranged from 5 to 19 in age, and there was an even distribution of boys and girls. For every 1,000 steps or more per day a father took, his son’s increased by over 300 and his daughter’s increased by nearly 300. For every 1,000 steps more a mother took, her son experienced about the same increase as with the father, and her daughter took a little over 200 steps more. When either the father or mother took 3,000 more steps per day, there was a 1.9 to 2.5 times increase in the chance that the child would be in the upper two tertiles (the top 66%) of children for activity. In other words - when you move, they move If you'd like more inspiration check out our FREE Exercise Right for Kids eBook: https://bit.ly/ExerciseforKidseBook Source: https://ijbnpa.biomedcentral.com/art/10.1186/1479-5868-10-8

05.01.2022 Gardening can be a real pain in the butt! As spring arrives, many of us like to spend more time out in the garden planting new seeds and tidying up as new growth appears. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm can get the best of us and we get carried away and forget to be mindful of how we are doing these tasks. This very often leads to injuries involving our backs and necks, because we have overloaded the wheelbarrow, or lifted a plant or pot that was too heavy or weeded the garden... by repetitively bending and twisting, etc. It’s important to remember : - loosen/limber up before starting; - only lift and carry what is comfortable or get help or use a trolley; - don’t bend and twist move your feet - use a kneeling pad, if needed, and keep moving it along the garden bed, so you are not over-reaching - use the correct tools for each job - have frequent breaks and keep well hydrated - be SunSmart - and of course, Enjoy the fresh air and sunhine! #hellospring #gardeningtips #injuryprevention #sunshine #aspleyphysiotherapy #physioadvice
