25.01.2022 AROUND THE GROUNDS ROUND 7 Following the rain on Friday night, it was all hands on deck with the super soaker to have the home of football playable by Saturday afternoon. Our M35 came away with their first undefeated double of the season. Our M35/3 welcomed Corpus Christi for what has been one of the great match ups over the last 3 seasons. As expected it was a hard fought match with the appeal for a penalty with 15 minutes to go turned down which may have broken the de...Continue reading

23.01.2022 Despite the clear skies, it was still a cold and windy weekend. At the home of football, points were split with First Grade climbing the ladder one team at a time. Reserve Grade played well and went into the break one goal up after some nice play down the left side saw the ball cut back to the top of the box for Jason Brown to finish nicely. Unfortunately, our men were beaten late going down in a heartbreaker. First Grade started well with the Asquith bell ringing less tha...Continue reading

19.01.2022 ROUND 6 - AROUND THE GROUNDS With the heavy rain on Friday, most of our senior games on Saturday were washed out. Our M35/4 were our only team to get on the field on Saturday as they took on Mt Colah in the highly anticipated local derby. Our men did well to withstand the pressure in the first half and go into the break only 2 down after defending against what seemed like an endless run of set pieces in our own half. The second half saw more of the game played in the middle o...f the field and despite looking more likely to score in the second half it took until the 89th minute to do so. M35/4 1-2 Peter Smee On Sunday, all of our women's teams got on the field in cold and wet conditions. Up against last placed UTS, our WAA4 controlled the game from the start. With a passing game that grows in confidence every week, our women took maximum points and a healthy boost to their goal difference. WAA4 8-0 Melissa Dayhew Jamie Brooks Elizabeth Rivera Sharon Gordon Maddison Beaumont Our WAA2 faced top of the table Northbridge in what was always going to be a tough game. Down on players, our women fought hard right until the end but couldn't get a point on the road. WAA2 0-5 Signs of hypothermia would not stop the women of W35 from claiming an emphatic 5 - 1 victory!! Conceding an early goal but holding possession to bring it even at the half. The second half saw us dominate with impenetrable defense & constant uncompromising pressure in attack. Amazing effort all around the park. Congratulations to Bec Ryan on the first senior haul of the season. Rebecca Ryan OG

17.01.2022 ROUND 3 - HOME WEEKEND After opening the season against two of the top teams in MAA2, our men will be looking to bounce back from a last minute penalty loss last week against Turramurra this weekend. In their first Saturday match of the season our MAA6 head up the highway to take on local rivals Mt Colah while our MAA5 and M45 play side by side at Foxglove.... Then on Sunday, our women return home to play a Women's All Age double header. With both teams winning last week, our WAA2 will be looking to solidify their position in the top half of the table with another 3 points while another win for our WAA4 will see them as one of the few remaining undefeated teams. If you are at any games this weekend, please ensure you adhere to the Return to Football guidelines around sanitizing, social distancing and socialising before and after games. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

15.01.2022 AROUND THE GROUNDS ROUND 4 A wet weekend saw our Senior Women washed out. On Saturday our M45 collected maximum points when they faced off against both local rivals. Short on players, the squad dug deep and made themselves available for both matches. Reserves were in control from the kick off against Hornsby Heights. Unfortunately a nasty leg injury (#backstrong David Thomas) took the gloss off a well-deserved victory. Firsts dug deep with a number backing up against Mt... Colah, and after a fast start went into the break 3-1 up. Despite fatigue kicking in and players battling injuries, the defence held strong late in the game as Mt Colah pushed forward to find an equaliser. M45 3-2 Paul Slater Daniel Berg Rob OBrien M45R 2-1 Brad Wilson Our MAA2 managed to collect a point on the road against UTS. Both grades played well and were unlucky not to take more from their games. Jason Brown scoring our only goal of the day with a clinical shot from the spot. MAA2 0-0 MAA2R 1-2 Jason Brown Mixed results for our M35 at the home of football. Div 4 created opportunities for both team at each end of the field. After failing to convert our early opportunities, we put ourselves under pressure at the back and went into the break 2 down. Div 3 controlled the ball in their game and with the clouds building, it was only a matter of time before it would start raining goals. Jackie Liu, gave the crowd a taste of things to come with the greatest non-goal celebration of 2020 before the referee ruled off side. M35/3 3-1 Daniel Sumpton Emre Yuksel Matt Barkovski M35/4 0-2 Our MAA5 but up a gallant show but were unable to complete against the competition leaders. Reserves found themselves four behind at the break but managed to keep a cleansheet in the second half. Firsts faced a similar challenge and were incredibly resilient but 4 goals in a 10 minute window sealed the match. Otherwise a great effort from both teams that essentially defended for 80 minutes each. MAA5 0-4 MAA5R 0-4 Our MAA6 Reserves were the better team but conceded an unfortunate late goal to finish with a draw. First Grade fought hard against a very strong team. Despite taking the early lead thanks to a Tretnt Morrow signature goal, we were unable to hold keep them out. MAA6 1-2 Trent Morrow MAA6R 2-2 Michael Byrne

14.01.2022 ROUND 7 - RAIN, RAIN, STAY AWAY After last weekend's wash outs, we are hoping the forecast rain this Friday/Saturday is more of a light shower. On Saturday there are plenty of local games with M35 at the home of football while M45 and MAA5 play side by side at their home away from home, Foxglove Oval. On the road, our MAA2 take on mid table Northbridge for the first time this weekend while our MAA6 face off against last placed West Pymble.... A couple of local derbies for our women on Sunday with our WAA2 playing host to Hornsby Heights while our W35 travel to Mt Colah in what should be an evenly matched game. Earlier in the day our WAA4 will be looking to maintain their undefeated record when they take on West Pymble. And to round out the games our MAA2 play their second match of the weekend against Northridge. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

14.01.2022 AROUND THE GROUNDS - ROUND 5 Our M45 returned to the home of football for a spectator restricted Super Saturday. Firsts played top of the table St Michaels and what was going to be a tough game became even harder when we lost two centre mids in the first half. Getting back to one goal down following a well rehearsed and clinically executed penalty attempt early in the second half wasn't enough and St Michaels closed out the game with a third. Reserve Grade hit the ground runn...Continue reading

11.01.2022 ROUND 5 SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS We all need to make some sacrifices and do our little bit to help ensure this season doesnt end prematurely. 1 Where possible, please limit attendance to ONE spectator per player. This applies to all games including the Saturday night local derby.... If you have recently been to a designated hotspot, please do not attend any football activities. This includes spectators and officials. Once the game you are attending has finished, do not stay around to socialise. Please move on as soon as possible. On Saturday, our M45 face their toughest challenge yet up against the table topping Lane Cove West. In the evening our MAA2 will be looking to kick start their season up against a Hornsby Heights First Grade team that is undefeated in 2020. Elsewhere on Saturday our MAA5 head down to the river to take on competition leaders Lane Cove. MAA6 take on fellow mid-table North Sydney while M35 will hope to divide and conquer against the table topping Knox and cellar dwellers Berowra. Our Womens All Age play the Sunday double with WAA4 taking on fellow competition leaders Kissing Point in what will be their toughest match of the season so far. At 3pm our WAA2 face last placed St Ives in what is becoming the have not division where 3 teams have not lost and 4 teams have not won a game in the first 3 rounds. Elsewhere on Sunday our W35 have a road trip against the undefeated competition leaders. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

11.01.2022 ROUND 8 ARCTIC BLAST The home of football has a full card on Saturday with our MAA2 playing the main event. Dont forget, only one spectator per player at all games and adhere to COVID guidelines including social distancing and socialising before and after all games.... After picking up their first win of the season last week, our MAA2 will be looking to maintain the momentum against 6th place Lindfield on Saturday. Despite the slow start to the season, a win could see them jump up the ladder. Reserve Grade will have their work cut out for them when they take on 3rd place. A tough challenge for our MAA5 who play their first game in three weeks, up against 3rd in First Grade and 2nd place in Reserve Grade. Our mid-table MAA6 First Grade face 3rd placed Sacred Heart while 4th placed Reserve Grade play 5th placed Knox in a tight competition where only 5 points separates 1st and 8th. Our M35 hope to divide and conquer as they head down to the river this weekend. Our 3rd placed Div 3 will be wary of a surprise attack when they play a St Michaels team that sits in second last with only 1 win but a reasonable for and against. Div 4 have the dinner booking against 7th place Lane Cove with the winner putting some breathing space between them and the relegation zone. Our M45 First Grade will be hoping their defence can build some confidence against an 8th placed West Pymble who have only managed 4 goals this season while 4th placed Reserve Grade take on 10th. Coming off back to back losses, the challenges continue for our WAA2 who will be looking to turn the ship around as they play 3rd placed Lindfield. Our undefeated WAA4 will be hoping to maintain their position near the top of the table when they take on 4th placed Chatswood on a synthetic pitch that should favour their clean passing style of football. The next two rounds are crucial for our W35 who currently sit in 3rd last. In their first game at the Home of Football this season, they face second last North Sydney before playing last placed Chatswood next week. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

05.01.2022 AROUND THE GROUNDS - ROUND 2 Our M35/3 controlled the ball for most of the game but couldn't find the back of the net in a physical encounter. Earlier in the day our M35/4 played well but were up against a quality team that were able to capitalise on their few opportunities. M35/3 0-0 M35/4 1-4... Shane Lockhardt Our MAA5 trailed on the scoreboard in both games. Reserves trailed 2-nil at halftime before a second half masterclass saw them finish convincing winners. Firsts were 3 behind and despite 2 late goals, left the run too late and couldn't close the gap. MAA5 2-3 Cameron Sutton Luke McGrath MAA5R 6-3 Nick Watts Steven Palmisano Russell Kelen Luke McBeath Mixed results for our MAA6 with a goal either side of halftime securing the 3 points for reserves while firsts challenging for most of the game before Northbridge ran away with it. MAA6 1-5 Alex Rodriguez MAA6R 2-0 Dwane Fuller Evan Luo Our W35 scored early in the match but unfortunately went into halftime a goal behind. Turramurra extended their lead in the second half following a penalty but a fabulous runaway goal by player's player Lesley Hosie put the game back in the balance. Unfortunately we couldn't find an equaliser but the game was played in fantastic spirit by both teams. W35 2-3 Lesley Hosie Our WAA4 played a scrappy first half before words from the supercoach at half time saw them regroup and control the ball in the second half. A one goal victory probably not a fair reflection of how well we played. WAA4 1-0 Maddison Turner Our MAA2 were unable to pick up points on the road against the old enemies. Reserves showed some good play, but costly errors killed us. Firsts went down after a heartbreaking last minute penalty. MAA2 1-2 Alex Humphreys MAA2R 1-3 Luke Tobin Our WAA2 notched up their first win in Division 2 with a well deserved win in the wet. WAA2 2-1 Keisha Maksoud Holly Heasman Goals galore in both M45 games. Reserves knew they had a challenege, coming up against a North Sydney team that scored 5 last week but managed to go one better this week thanks to a hattrick from Bernard. Firsts dominated early but let in 3 scrappy goals against the run of play. An improved second half saw us pile on the pressure and level scores although we couldn't close out the game with a winner. 05.01.2022 ROUND 6 - HOME WEEKEND Rain rain go away Come again another day... In this COVID shortened season we want all the dry weekends we can get. Please remember the COVID restrictions including one spectator per player and socialising and social distancing before and after games. On Saturday our senior men can put the petrol card away with all games local. MAA2 will be searching for their first win of the season against Lane Cove at the Home of Football, MAA5 and MAA6 are side by side at Foxglove and M35/4 making the long road trip to Montview to take on Mt Colah. While battle weary M45 and M35/3 enjoy a rest with byes scheduled for both. On Sunday our WAA2 face an undefeated Northbridge who have been in impressive form with 3 cleansheets this season while our WAA4 will be looking to continue their recent stellar form against bottom of the table UTS. Closer to home our W35 will go into their match against Lindfield full of confidence after their impressive second half last week made them the first team this season to score against the competition leaders. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

05.01.2022 ROUND 9 THE RUN HOME As this COVID shortened season draws to a close, please ensure you still adhere to the COVID restrictions. Weve come so far this season and worked so hard to get onto the pitch, we can't become complacent now and bring things undone with only 5 rounds to go. The Home of Football will have back to back blue and white on Saturday starting at 8:30am with our U18B on the main field while our U10 Bombers begin proceedings on the Midi. On Sunday the our G1...4 and G16 start the day with both Women's All Age teams to finish. On Saturday at the Home of Football, our 3rd placed M35/3 who have only lost one game this year, will be looking to continue their recent form against 4th placed North Sydney. For our M35/4 its a face off between the cellar dwellers with second last against last. Our M35/4 have matched most teams in the competition for good portions of the game but havent been able to take their opportunities. While our MAA2 First Grade struggled in the first half of the year, recent weeks have seen the likes of Rojas, Hemming and Thomson banging in some crackers to lift the team into the middle of the table and only two points off 4th. This week sees their biggest challenge of the season up against the competition leaders, Lane Cove Blue, while our last placed Reserve Grade will be hoping for a little luck to finally go their way this season when they take on 4th place. For our MAA5 First Grade its 9th place against 7th in what should be an even encounter, while Reserve Grade face the undefeated top of the table North Sydney BHS. Our MAA6 play the Mongo FC/St Ives hybrid squad with 8th placed First Grade against 5th and 6th placed Reserve Grade to play 2nd in a competition where only 5 points separates 1st and 6th. Over to Sunday and you can expect a true squad battle for our M45 with our First and Reserve Grade both in 5th place up against a Sacred Heart Pymble team who is 2nd in both grades. Despite suffering only one loss, our First Grade find themselves off the pace this season on the back of 4 draws while Reserve Grade are only 3 points off the lead and have the opportunity to leapfrog Sacred Heart with a convincing win. At the Home of Football on Sunday our WAA4 will need to maintain their unbeaten run to stay at the top of the table with Kissing Point and Northbridge both setting a cracking pace with all three teams still undefeated and on 19 points. In the afternoon, our WAA2 will be hoping to get their season back on track after struggling with injuries and playing a couple of the top teams the last few weeks. Hopefully a return to the Home of Football will help rebuild their confidence. And last but not least, in the other battle of the cellar dwellers this weekend our W35 travel down to Castle Cove to take on last placed Chatswood. #asquithsc #thefriendlyclub #oneteam #blueandwhite #nsfa

05.01.2022 AROUND THE GROUNDS - ROUND 3 A great team effort from our WAA4, with the girls passing game proving way too good for Greenwich. WAA4 4-2 Maddison turner... Soleil Russo Our W35 travelled to Howson which has traditionally been an unhappy hunting ground. No change this year with our ladies going down but showing some real promise and fighting hard with many players out with injury. W35 0-3 Our M45 Reserves were off to a rough start after some last minute withdrawals and our only striker suffering a concussion a few minutes into the game. Despite getting back to 2-3 at one stage, we conceded in groups and the final result became a blowout. Firsts went into the break with scores level thanks to a thunderbolt from Ian and despite falling 2 behind in the second half managed to fight back for a draw which could be described as a fair result on the day. M45 3-3 Ian Choat Paul Slater M45R 2-7 Mark Williams Chris Chrisostomou Mixed results for our MAA2 with a great win for Reserves followed up by a disappointing loss for Firsts MAA2 0-4 MAA2R 5-2 Max Morris Dene Hunter Luke Tobin Our WAA2 continued their winning ways with a solid two goal victory. WAA2 2-0 Keisha Maksoud Jordan Roberts Mixed results for our M35 with Div 4 starting the day well with a gutsy victory. Our Div 3 fought hard and challenged all game but in the end but couldnt close the gap. M35/3 0-2 M35/4 2-1 Peter Smee James Begg A 6 point Saturday for our MAA5 with Reserves continuing their good form scoring early before holding on for a well deserved win, while our Firsts rounded out the double on the back of some solid defence and lethal attacks as the game progressed. MAA5 4-2 Luke McBeath Andres Aragon Russell Kelen MAA5R 3-2 Steven Palmisano Rhys Ashton Russell Kelen

03.01.2022 2020 MARK GRIFFIN COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD Every year the Club presents the Mark Griffin Award to a junior coach. Mark never played for Asquith, however, he coached at the club for over a decade. Mark used his love and knowledge of the game to help improve his players, while ensuring that everyone’s enjoyment was the top priority.... More importantly, he was a strong, sincere and caring role model, which set an example for his players and helped develop the character of the boys and girls he mentored, both in football and in life. Sadly Mark passed away in 2014 and this award was introduced to honour a great servant of the Club and mentor of the children. When we coach children, we not only help them develop their game but we also contribute to the adults they will become. The principles we instill in the way they play. The respect we teach them in their interactions with teammates and the opposition. And most importantly, leading by example when we face adversity or showing humility in victory. This year's Mark Griffin Award recipient embodies everything that this award represents and having his name etched on the perpetual trophy reinforces the qualities of the award recipients in the past and into the future. Congratulations to Grant Harlow, our Mark Griffin Coach of the Year Award winner in 2020.
