06.01.2022 Exercise and sleep Exercise timing and specificity can have assistive control on hormones within the body to improve our nights rest. Vigorous exercise releases hormone Adrenaline giving us that temporay fight & flight response. Exercise in the morning can help us be more alert for the day.... Intermittent Exercise can improve the use of insulin, more by decreasing insulin resistance for improved energy management within the body. It also has reported effects on ghrelin & leptin the two hormones which control our appetite. Mobility and mindfulness exercise such as yoga can help reduce our stress. It does this by lowering cortisol which might have accumulated over the day preparing us ready for rest. If we're able to elevate our heart rate in the morning, we'll feel more wakeful & alert during the day. Productivity increases and we expend more. Therefore we'll feel more tired at the end of the day stimulating the natural release of melatonin signalling us to go to sleep. If you've had a rushed day, doing yoga can help lower cortisol levels and stress before bed. Here's a rare picture of my daughter sleeping. Sleep has been a hard area for us since the arrival our our daughter who believes she's allergic to it. Ive never paid so much attention to Sleep 'hygiene' more in my life Goodnight

04.01.2022 R U OK? Almost half of Australians will be affected by Mental Health Condition over the course of their life, and 65% of them do not seek help because of stigma. Suicide is the number 1 cause of death for people aged between 15 and 44 in Australia.... It is known that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders, and people in the LGBTQI+ community are more likely to die by suicide. So lets start the conversation simply asking; "Are you okay?" Ask that 2nd and 3rd follow up Question to get past the automated response of "yea, i'm alright" we easily fall into. The follow up Q's creates a more meaningful connection and we feel more comfortable sharing how we honestly feel. It’s not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, but i could change a life. We’ve released an interactive conversation roleplay video to help you learn what to say after R U OK? https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask- ^Statistics from the Black Dog Institute Website https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/
