08.01.2022 Scam reminder during COVID-19 myPolice on Jul 24, 2020 @ 3:26pm Residents are being reminded to beware of scam phone calls relating to COVID-19 following reports circulating the region. Townsville police have been made aware of locals being called and advised they have been in contact with a person who has tested positive to COVID-19.... The voice goes on to tell the recipient they need to pay for a test and go on to request credit card information. Government organisations will not request credit card information in this way and anyone who receives these calls should simply hang up. More information about current COVID-19 scams can be found here: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au//current-covid-19-coronavirus Scams can be reported through the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) here.
