17.01.2022 Given the current situation with the Corona Virus many of our clinicians at Associated Psychology Practice are providing Telehealth services to help existing and new clients get the support they need during this challenging time. This article provides a helpful perspective on the benefits of Telehealth, and makes the point that: Research suggests that Teletherapy is at least as effective as in-person therapy and will allow you to get support while following any social dista...ncing guidelines or quarantine restrictions, said Myra Altman, vice president of clinical care at Modern Health, a platform that provides mental health resources for companies. If you are noticing increases in stress and anxiety, it might be a great time to get support via a Teletherapy option. If you would like to book a Telehealth appointment then please contact our office between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday on 4722-3137.

15.01.2022 2020 has certainly been a challenging year so I thought that I would share some quicks tips for switching off from work during the holidays: Communicate clearly with your team about who to contact if they need assistance while your away. Switch off email notifications on your phone and other devices & limit the number of times you check your account. Better still don’t check your work email account at all! Put your work gear, such as your bag or laptop out of sight u...ntil just before you return to the surgery If you start to think of a work situation during your break, then consciously return your focus to the present moment using your 5 senses. Focus your attention on what you can hear, see, smell, touch, or taste. I found the above strategies helpful for switching off during a family holiday in November. I managed to go for 8 days without checking my work email. It took a fair amount of self-control not to check my email for the first few days but after that I got the hang of it! To help our team switch off over the holidays our Penrith & Katoomba practices will both be closed from the 21st of December 2020 until the 4th of January 2021. During this time calls will be diverted to our message bank and will not be checked until we reopen. Our voice mail message will direct people requiring immediate support to contact Lifeline or in case of present to their local ED. See more

14.01.2022 Merry Christmas from all of us at Associated Psychology Practice. Our Penrith and Katoomba offices will be closed from the 21st of December 2020 until the 4th of January 2021 so that we can reset and relax. If you need support during that period please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or present to your local hospital ED.

14.01.2022 This made me laugh!

12.01.2022 Great news-the government has agreed to continue to provide Medicare rebates for Telehealth services until March 2021 https://www.abc.net.au//telehealth-services-exte/12675628

12.01.2022 Telehealth is a great way to access Psychological support during the COVID 19 Pandemic.

12.01.2022 Children who cannot look to their parents for true understanding and support feel more vulnerable and out of control in moments when their difficult emotions ar...e invalidated or pacified. Picture this: you and your child are at the park for some fun playtime. As your child climbs to the top of the slide, they yell out, "I can't do it! I'm scared to go down!" If you get visibly impatient or ridicule them out of annoyance, the lessons that they will learn are that their emotions are unreasonable, shouldn’t be shown to anyone, and are fundamentally undesirable or problematic. Now imagine saying, I used to be afraid of slides too. This one is really big, huh? Do you want to slide down it with me or do you want to try something else? When you help them work through their emotional state, you show your child that their feelings are important and deserving of compassion and empathy. In doing this, you also help them to gain a greater understanding of their feelings and the awareness that they can deal with them. Read how to use Emotion Coaching and empathy in your conversations with your child, and see the differences it makes in difficult moments: http://bit.ly/3gUeJJT

10.01.2022 We have been enjoying some yummy lemon and coconut slice that Jesse from our admin team brought into share. I have asked for the recipe so that I can try it out over the Christmas Holidays.

09.01.2022 As a practice we will be moving 100% to phone or secure video conferencing services this coming week in order to try to reduce the spread of Covid 19. We will reopen for face to face sessions once the Covid 19 situation settles. As a practice we would like to encourage people to continue treatment or start treatment via Telehealth. Its more important than ever to get psychological support to help cope with the additional stress and uncertainty we are facing as individuals, ...families and as a society. We will be contacting people who are already booked for face to face appointments over the coming weeks to discuss telehealth options. We also welcome any one who does not have an appointment scheduled to contact the practice on 4722-3137 during business hours Monday to Friday to talk about how we can support your emotional and psychological wellbeing via phone or secure video conferencing.

08.01.2022 Thanks Martha for another great post.

07.01.2022 One of the silver linings to Telehealth!

05.01.2022 I made a mistake today. I misread a message which caused a lot of confusion and extra work for various people. I noticed my body tense up when I realised that I had mixed things up and my inner critic came out in full force. I noticed myself thinking "you made a real mess of that. People will think you are a goose" etc. I then paused, took a slow deep breath and repeated the gentle messages that I give to my children when they make mistakes. I said, "it's okay. Everyone makes... mistakes. Mistakes are part of life and learning. It will work out okay". I immediately noticed some of the tension lift. I was then able to focus my energy and attention on trying to sort things out. If your inner critic doesn't allow room for making mistakes then it might be time to book an appointment with one of the experienced Psychologists at our Penrith or Katoomba practice. To book an appointment for 2021 please contact our office on 4722-3137 during business hours Monday to Friday, warm regards Michelle See more

04.01.2022 Imagine being as mindful as your dog - bliss!

04.01.2022 Pascal and I have officially been private practice owners for 5 years as of yesterday. The funny thing is that in the busyness of life we forgot to celebrate this milestone birthday! Since talking over the practice in 2015 our team has grown significantly and we have introduced new systems to try to help us better support our team and clients. Our team has grown from 2 Psychs in July 2015 to 8 in July 2020. We also opened a second practice in Katoomba earlier this year whi...ch is steadily growing. So I would like to thank all the wonderful admin and clinical team members past and present who have shared this journey with us. Id also like to thank the many loyal clients we have who have been patient during times of changes and uncertainty during the recent pandemic. We look forward to growing both practices further over the next 5 years and we are exploring ways to expand the services we offer going forward to include things such as Virtual Reality programs for phobias. Warm regards Michelle & Pascal Grosvenor

03.01.2022 Your vagus nerve, also known as the 10th cranial nerve, is one of your most important nerves in the body. It is also the longest nerve in your autonomic nervous... system that extends from your brain stem through your neck into your chest and abdomen. While we refer to them together as the vagus nerve, there are actually two vagus nerves, one on the left and one on the right. Vagus is latin for wandering, which appropriately describes the nerve. Your vagus nerve is critical for many functions of our physiology. It connects our brain to our gut. It carries important sensory and motor information. Our vagus nerve supplies innervation to our major blood vessels, heart, lungs, airways, stomach, esophagus, and intestines. It helps to regulate our heart rate, digestion, blood pressure, sweating, and speech, among other areas of your health. By controlling the muscles of your throat and voice box, it plays an important role of speaking and eating. It also helps your entire gastrointestinal tract working together, regulating your heart rate, and connecting your brain to the rest of your body. . . #neuroscience
