25.01.2022 Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has assured Australians, and in particular elderly Australians, that our hospitals must admit infected COVID-19 patients regardless of age. He also noted that he had received assurances from the Victorian government to the same effect. https://www.theaustralian.com.au//6bbe55b316bde62103c75a56
24.01.2022 The Australian Christian Lobby is again calling for a full parliamentary inquiry into the explosion in the number of children seeking to transition to a different gender. The evidence is that there is an over-representation of teens with autism in gender clinics, with 45% of 383 patients (mostly girls around 14) at Australias busiest clinic displaying autism features.
24.01.2022 Queensland Premier Palaszczuk has given in to pressure and told parliament this morning that the planned euthanasia legislation will now be referred to the Queensland Law Reform Commission for consideration, with a response now likely in March 2021, so after their next State election. It seems that the Premier wasn't keen to have this issue focused on in the election campaign. We would expect that opponents will keep up their pressure!
22.01.2022 Election update - the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has delayed the general election a month until 17 October as they seek to get a community outbreak of Covid-19 under control.
22.01.2022 "Every human life is sacred and worth defending at every stage."
21.01.2022 The ACL in Tasmania has arranged a Zoom seminar for tomorrow 15 October to help those looking to engage others about euthanasia or State-sanctioned suicide. This is important as the legislation moves through Parliament. You can read more and register for the 90 minute Zoom seminar below.
20.01.2022 A strong response from Tasmanian Federal Senator Claire Chandler who faces the Tasmanian Equal Opportunity Commission in yet another attack in Australia on the freedoms of speech, thought and opinion.
19.01.2022 Western Australia will be the first State to implement a two square metre per person capacity rule for venues, replacing the previous four square metre rule, which is the current national advice. Western Australians must continue to practice physical distancing and good personal hygiene at all times. Phase 3 will come into effect from Saturday, June 6 (11.59pm Friday, June 5). It includes: for churches - non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people at any one time, per single undivided space, up to 300 people in total per venue (100/300 rule).
18.01.2022 Last January, Lyle Shelton, wrote a Facebook post about the dangers of putting LGBTIQA+ drag queens in front of children. This has now triggered action against him under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act of 1991, by two of these drag queens. More and more freedoms of opinion, expression, and speech are coming under attack. And the legal costs of the 'offended' are covered by the taxpayer-funded ($400,000 over the past three years) LGBTI Legal service. Shelton is being ad...vised by the Human Rights Law Alliance, which gets no public money. https://www.lyleshelton.com.au/drag_queens_take_legal_actio
18.01.2022 We used to prioritise giving depressed and demoralised people psychiatric help. Now we provide them with a lethal injection.
16.01.2022 Dr Jereth Kok in Melbourne has been suspended since August 2019 by the Victorian medical authorities, because he dares to have different views on abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and aspects of transgender treatment. There have been no actual complaints against Dr Kok, just a hunch that his views expressed on social media may adversely impact his patients. The outcome is that Dr Koks has lost his job, and he is struggling to support his young family. https://ap.org.au//we-are-all-free-to-agree-the-case-of-/
16.01.2022 ARPA is an affiliate of the CDHL. Sad the PM has yet to respond or even acknowledge the CDHL letter.
14.01.2022 A better outcome but the grim numbers should continue to motivate us for prayer and action.
12.01.2022 Earlier this year the CDHL, in the light of COVID-19, made the sad decision to postpone the Rally for Life. Some of their younger pro-life members, including Dylan Twiss and Warwick DSilva, with the encouragement of the CDHL and the assistance of the NCC and the AFA, decided that it was opportune to arrange interviews with some prominent pro-life supporters from around the State. The first of those interviewed was the Hon Nick Goiran, member of the South Metropolitan Region ...of the WA Legislative Council. In this interview, Mr Goiran responds to several questions that will provide viewers with an update of the critical and current pro-life issues facing WA. This includes his appreciation for, and the value of the Rally for Life, sadness that in WA today babies are left to die after failed abortions, and concern over the so-called safety zones legislation under consideration by the State Government.
11.01.2022 This week the WA Government announced it was delaying the Phase 5 easing of COVID-19 restrictions. However, select 'low risk' venues which hold seated and ticketed events will, from today, be granted exemption from the 2 square metre rule and be allowed to operate at 60% capacity. The list of "specific venues" including theatres, concert halls, auditorium/amphitheatres, cinemas, comedy lounges and performing arts centres. ARPA has received official confirmation from the Depa...rtment of Premier and Cabinet and the Chief Health Officer that churches are NOT included in this exemption. The reason provided was that the government's focus is on getting people back to work and earning an income first. This deliberate prioritisation of work over worship is appalling, it is principally-wrong for the government to ease restrictions on cinemas, comedy lounges and concert halls before easing restrictions on churches, and Christians must call to the government to account for this.
11.01.2022 Another example of freedoms going...how dare you argue or have a different view on climate science.
10.01.2022 South West Labor MLC Ms Adele Farina appears likely to be losing her pre-selection position in the WA Upper House. Labor are apparently keen to move Pierre Yang from South Metro where his seat is tenuous, to the winnable North Metro seat and then parachute Allanah McTiernan to the winnable South West seat pushing out Ms Farina in the process. Both McTiernan and Yang voted for Voluntary Assisted Dying all the way through the debate in the WA Legislative Council. Ms Farina believes that she is being punished for exercising her conscience vote. Further, Ms Farina is informed that Labor are already planning to extend VAD to cover people with dementia.
10.01.2022 Our Prime Minister is warning that we should prepare for more coronavirus deaths, particularly amongst the elderly. Of the over 350 people who have died from COVID in Australia, most have died in Victoria, where more than 160 deaths have been linked to aged care homes. The Prime Minister has said that he would ensure that the elderly be treated with dignity and respect. The aged care royal commission is currently sitting, and last week was examining the impact of the pandemic... on the elderly. It heard that more than 68 per cent of the people who have died were aged care residents. That is one of the highest COVID-19 death rates amongst older people in the world. Now we are reading that in Victoria the elderly are being refused treatment in Melbourne hospitals and are sent back to their aged care home! The Australian reported on August the 13th that the Glenlyn Aged Care in Glenroy had told the families of residents that Royal Melbourne Hospital would not be accepting (residents) and they were to remain at the facility and be placed on end of life care and/or be sedated if they were wandering. The report continues, Victorian health authorities are also refusing to hospitalise coronavirus-infected elderly people from aged care homes even without clinical needs like dementia. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews claims that there is nothing to see here and has denied aged care residents are being denied hospital treatments. He even claims that the aged care industry is at fault, claiming that there are some in this industry that would no longer like to have all of their residents under their roof, that would be easier perhaps. Considering the Premiers appalling handling of the pandemic in that State to date, he is simply not to be trusted on this matter! We reject any suggestion or action to prioritise the care of the young and healthy over those who are elderly or have disabilities. We cannot look the other way when the elderly, the disabled, the poor, and the vulnerable are in peril. We all want to see the economy start turning again, but not at the expense and over the cries of those made in the image of God. When we remember that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46 verse 1, we can overcome our fears and respond to crises with courage and compassion also for those in need. https://www.theaustralian.com.au//d0b5bab2dcf94051e4a49e4c
10.01.2022 Every time there are discussions around pro-life topics, the opposition refutes the slippery slope argument. And every time and again, we see proof of the slippery slope. So far no action on this in Belguim, but you can probably correctly work out where this is heading. https://disrn.com//94-of-belgian-doctors-support-after-bi/
09.01.2022 https://www.rnz.co.nz//nz-could-be-doing-more-on-infant-mo Just months after New Zealand PM Adern led the introduction of the most extreme abortion law in the world, PM Adern now says that New Zealand could be doing more on infant mortality! Almost unbelievably Adern said Parliament is looking into ways to better support people who have lost a baby, including providing bereavement leave for people who have experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth. What a classic case of missing the point! Great to help those struggling from miscarriage and stillbirth, but what about those struggling with the murder of their little ones in what is supposed to be the safest place in the world, in mother's womb?
08.01.2022 Hope Australia has pointed out that the promised financial commitment by the McGowan Government was just a fraction of what ongoing financial support is required for palliative care in WA. Health Minister Cook claimed he wanted all West Australians know about palliative care and can access quality palliative care where and when its needed," but he has clearly failed to fund it!
07.01.2022 A number of elections are in the planning. The Northern Territory Legislative Assembly election is next Saturday, but as is the trend nowadays, already over 22% have voted. Barring any postponements, other elections coming soon include the New Zealand House of Representatives election plus referenda on Saturday 19 September. The ACT Legislative Assembly election is on Saturday 17 October, the Queensland Legislative Assembly votes on Saturday 31 October and the American Presid...ency and Congress on Tuesday 3 November. Then on 13 March 2021 WA votes for its Legislative Assembly and Council. Tasmania recently had two by elections for their Upper House, for the seats of Huon and Rosevears. In both cases independents lost out, to Labor in Huon and to the Liberals in Rosevears. Rosevears was awfully close, and is the seat that many of our Tasmanian church members reside in. The winner in Rosevears was Jo Palmer, a former news reader, who is understood will be voting against the euthanasia legislation due in parliament there soon. Going into the by elections, the left held an absolute majority in Tassies Legislative Council, normally meaning that the government needs the support of Labor or at least two left independents to win votes. The Upper House in Tassie has quite a different look to both WA and Queensland. Tasmanias council has 15 seats, now with five Labor members, three Liberals and seven independents the first time in its history that the chamber has not had an independent majority. Tasmania use the Hare-Clark voting system which is like Federal Senate voting and utilises a quota. The option for a voter to have their preferences determined by group voting tickets is still used in WA, but under Hare-Clark preferences are always determined explicitly by individual voters. The distribution of how-to-vote cards outside polling places on election day is banned. WAs Upper House is dominated by the major parties. Labor holds 14 seats, Liberal nine, National four, the Greens four, One Nation two, the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers one , Liberal Democrats one and the Western Australia Party one. The fight against euthanasia last year was fought strongest in the Upper House in WA but that is more unlikely in Tasmania, and certainly in Queensland, as they do not have an Upper House or Legislative Council at all, they abolished it in 1922. Queensland is also unique in that it is the only state where the Liberals and Nationals have joined as one party, the Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP). See more
07.01.2022 Interestingly the West Australian is taking a different tack on this pre-selection than WA Today. The West gives Ms MacTiernan space to claim that Ms Farina wouldn't have been pre-selected anyway. WA Today reports Ms Farina as saying "It is particularly disappointing that preselections have been rushed through the administrative committee five days before the party resumes normal business after the COVID-19 restrictions." They also note that Ms Farina said the party's rank an...d file members had been denied a say in the preselection. This seems to be another case were the appointments are made in Perth and not by the rank and file in the WA Labor Party. "It is personally disappointing Ms MacTiernan, whom I have strongly supported throughout her career, and who has campaigned for party rank and file participation in preselections and against this kind of deal-making by faction leaders, has willingly been involved in this cynical factional exercise," she said. ARPA subscribers were aware of this happening, and also that Ms Farina believes that her refusal to support VAD last year contributed to her demise.
05.01.2022 Again the abortion clinics make up the stories to fit their agenda.
05.01.2022 Tasmania's Legislative Council, its Upper House, resumes again on September the 15th. One of the orders of the day for the 15th is End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Bill 2020 (No. 30): Second reading. (Private Members Bill). Please take the opportunity to write to, or better still to meet with, your local Upper House and indeed your Lower House member to explain why you have issues with this dangerous legislation.
05.01.2022 Some wise words here from Stephen McAlpine about our response to the double standards now of social distancing. He makes a good point about our return to live worship services. The return means engaging in a very detailed, even tiresome COVID-19 plan, protocols and process. "Is the right response Oh blow it, everyone else is doing it without restrictions, why should we bother? asks McAlpine.... "Yet Christian, even if you feel churlish towards the double standards on the weekend exhibited by your government, dont join them in their hypocrisy. The COVID-19 pandemic laws have been put in place for our protection. We are to obey the law and to do so in a way that shows we honour the rule of law, because we have a King who rules over us and has put those authorities in place. Regardless of what other people do."
04.01.2022 Further confirmation that governments will save in health care costs by investing in palliative care.
03.01.2022 The Australian Family Association are arranging an online presentation to replace their annual dinner. They are inviting pro-life supporters from around Australia to dial in, not least to hear their guest speaker, Mr Ed Martin. Mr Martin will be speaking on Pro-Life Progress in America Current state of play. He is the President of the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles and of the Eagle Forum Education and Legal Defence Fund. He is a US lawyer and also serves on the Pro-Life Voices for Trump Coalition. https://phplist.family.org.au/
03.01.2022 Federal Health Minister Mr Greg Hunt seems to be passing the buck to the States after revelations that the countrys biggest gender clinic at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne had 45 per cent of a group of chiefly female-born teenagers showing autism features on a screening test.
02.01.2022 The article below was tucked away on page 8 of last Monday's West Australian. The ACL correctly responded by noting that, For a woman to give the genuinely informed consent legally required in WA for an abortion, she needs to be told that her unborn child can experience significant pain after 12 weeks."
02.01.2022 Some of our elderly are waiting for years for elective surgery and we have this!
02.01.2022 No need to worry they repeatedly said. Allowing same-sex marriage was not going to affect you in any way. Well, it is starting to get very close to home, just consider how the WA Government-owned Lotterywest has barred Victory Life from funding simply and only because of her "biblical views on same-sex marriage." Now you might ask why they were seeking finding from a gambling body in the first place, but that is somewhat beside the point. More in next weeks ARPA Newsletter.
01.01.2022 All lives matter. Sadly in many countries around the world people are badly mistreated. In Australia many more black people die at the hands of other black people than from any others. Thankfully we have a few brave ones that speak up when it occurs, even if in our closest northern neighbours. Thank you Jacinta Price and the ABC in bringing this latest atrocity to our attention.
01.01.2022 We knew it was coming...the Labor Government continues its anti-life agenda introducing today new legislation that they claim will "ensure safe access zones for women" around abortion clinics." This despite there not being any claims of harrassment being lodged from these zones and that women are entitled to the freedom to discuss abortion alternatives.
