25.01.2022 Online PD Children's curiosity about gender differences can be observed as early as three with social pressures to conform strong in their environments. This workshop will support teams with creating environments that address stereotypes and inequities faced by children of all genders. We will explore how addressing gender stereotypes also supports gender non-conforming children in having the time and space to live freely in their identity without pressure. Educators will be encouraged to better support not only children but parents and colleagues who are LGBTIQA+.

24.01.2022 Radio interview Given the tough year 2020 has been, a lot of students are reaching out for help. But who should be in their corner - offering that?... The Federal budget has earmarked $61.4 million over the next four years for the National School Chaplaincy Program. While some have welcomed that, others have described the allocation as wasteful labelling the program as discriminatory and flawed. We know that support for young people is needed but, who should be giving it? Jess Strutt unpacks both sides of this discussion. Guests: Mandie Shean - Psychologist and teacher working in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University. Mandie’s worked as a primary school teacher, chaplain, school psychologist, and children's pastor Jane Caro - Ambassador at National Secular Lobby - author, documentary maker, and social commentator Andrew Winton a chaplain at Churchlands Senior High School with almost 20 years’ experience
22.01.2022 A social media post posing the hypothetical question what readers would do if the world had no men for 24 hours has gone viral. The top response of most of the women who responded? Being able to walk around freely at night.

19.01.2022 Pauline Hanson’s attempt to gag teachers and stuff the curriculum full of right-wing conspiracy theories, climate denialism and transphobia would be laughable i...f it weren’t so terrifying. The curriculum should be based on evidence and expertise not Pauline Hanson’s latest bigoted thought bubble. There is no place for this kind of censorship of teachers in our democracy and our schools. This bill belongs nowhere but in the bin.

14.01.2022 Well! We could all do with a distraction from important world business, here's something else that you can be enraged about instead!! ** CROSS COUNTRY RACE DIS...TANCES - HOW FAR DO GIRLS RUN? ** Is this happening in your state/ territory Catholic School Cross Country competitions? Is it happening in public schools too? Over on ABC Perth a few weeks back a mum called out the Catholic Schools Competition for Cross Country where over 70 schools compete. The girls race is 3km whilst the boys is 4km (U13-U19). Apparently it's been like this for 30 years because apparently, girls don't like running as much as boys - they did it to encourage participation. The head of the ACC competition admitted it was time for a review and schools will be voting on race length. Does this happen in your state/ territory Cross Country competitions? Add a 'yes' in the comments below if it is, let us know your state/ territory and what you think. You can listen to the segment here which was just before the 9am news. https://www.abc.net.au/ra/perth/programs/breakfast/12770890. Image description: Kids running cross country across a green field. Text underneath on grey background reads: At your school do girls run shorter Cross Country races than boys?

Bates also explains how "this extreme world of misogyny" is intertwined with white supremacy.
