22.01.2022 Classic example of a DIY going wrong. This could have burned down the floorboard above and maybe the house?!? Found in Lutwyche today.

17.01.2022 Did you know... 3. What the first public building was that was lit by electricity in Australia? Sydney’s General Post Office was the first major building to be lit by electricity in 1878, using its own generator. Sydney got its first public street light about nine years later, when the Lord Mayor asked the Postmaster General to extend his power to a map above a horse trough outside the GPO on George Street.

16.01.2022 Did you know... 1. There was electricity aboard the Endeavour! Yes, Captain Cook’s ship had a form of electricity aboard when it arrived in 1770. Joseph Banks used Leyden jars, which were primitive batteries, to create a weak electric current across the salt-water soaked canvas floor of his cabin.

16.01.2022 #Flashbackfriday C. Frank White was one of the first electricians in Queensland. He operated as an electrician and electrical supplier from a shop on Creek Stre...et before forming a parntership with Edward Barton (an electricty consultant) in 1888. Together they opened Barton White & Co, manufacturers of electrical equipment, supplying electric light to the Queensland public. Source: http://ow.ly/3gqP30iKolJ

13.01.2022 Did you know... 2. Where the first public electric light was installed? In 1863, a single arc lamp was illuminated on Sydney’s Observatory Hill to celebrate the marriage of the Prince of Wales.

11.01.2022 Please read this, it could be happening to you!!! Isolators suspected of causing multiple house fires!!! Two isolators are suspected of causing at least 35 house fires throughout Queensland and may soon be subject to a safety recall. With an excess of 25,000 faulty isolators sold throughout Australia, there is a genuine risk of further fires occurring.... The Avanco-branded rotary type DC isolators (model numbers AV/DC4P25A and AV/DC2P25A) have been distributed by Advancetech, a solar, industrial and electrical importer and distributor based in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. The Qld Government has already issued a prohibition of sale and use notice in relation to the products. With three Master Electricians members already affected by the faulty isolators, MEA is working with solicitors to provide legal advice to these members. Due to the serious safety risk to both the electrical industry and the public, MEA is also including these isolators as part of the discussion with the ACCC on the Infinity cable recall. MEA is also concerned by Advancetech's indication that if the product is recalled, they will immediately go into receivership and not be able to meet the cost of replacement. MEA will continue to lobby on behalf of industry and will provide further updates through our member communication channels. If you need advice regarding your use of these products, please phone us on 1300 889 198.

10.01.2022 Do you let rats get you down? Don't save money on pest control!!!!

08.01.2022 Water and electricity do not mix.

08.01.2022 Guess what I found in a ceiling today? Wondering why the light wasn't working :)

07.01.2022 Did you know... 4. Where the first electric street lights started glowing? This was not in Melbourne, not in Sydney but in the small NSW town of Tamworth. With a population of around 3000 this was the first place in Australia to supply electricity to the public at large. Tamworth switched on arc and incandescent street lighting on the 9th of November 1888.

07.01.2022 Regardless of whether you own or rent, you should consider having safety switches installed on all circuits. Safety switches protect you, your family and anyone... visiting the property from electric shock. 05.01.2022 Did you know... 5. First ‘first-world problems’! In the early days, you couldn’t get too comfortable with your electricity supply. Service wasn’t reliable, street lights went off at midnight, and power stations were closed on Sundays. What’s more, appliances which worked on one system weren’t compatible with others, so if you moved there was a chance you’d need new things! We’ve come a long way.

05.01.2022 Masters Home Improvement Faulty Cable! ACCC investigation into Infinity brand cable Master Electricians Australia has become aware that some electrical contractors who have responded to the recall of Infinity brand cable have been refused reimbursement or compensation by the retailer. We are disappointed by this refusal to assist in the removal and replacement of a potentially life-threatening product. We are also concerned at the lack of urgency shown by some state regula...Continue reading
