03.01.2022 On 29 March 2018, a voluntary recall was announced for non-compliant swimming pool gate latch assemblies. An investigation into the particular products found that the gate latch assemblies do not comply with Australian Standard AS 1926.1 relating to safety barriers for private swimming pools. If the gate is open, turning the key in the striker component of the gate latch may cause the gate to remain locked in the open position and prevent the gate from closing and latching. T...he recalled latches are: SafeTech Top Pull Pool Gate Latch (Key Lockable) G8Safe Top Pull Pool Gate Latch (Key Lockable) SafeTech TriLatch (Key Lockable) G8Safe TriLatch (Key Lockable) These products are also available for purchase as part of the following kits: SafeTech Trade Packs (Key Lockable) G8Safe Megapack (Key Lockable) We recommend to our clients that are affected, that the key be removed from the key lock mechanism (in the unlocked position) immediately and that the key hole be filled with a waterproof adhesive. Permanently disabling the key lock mechanism in such a manner is considered by the Building Commission to remedy the non-compliance until a compliant replacement gate latch assembly can be organised. Replacement compliant gate latch assembly can be organised by contacting SafeTech Hardware Pty Ltd by visiting www.safetechhardware.com.au or phoning 1300 034 096 or visiting. The replacement product will come with "How to Change Your Striker" instructions, which are also available on the SafeTech Hardware website. If you have a defective latch and are unsure of what to do, give us a call we can help.
