08.01.2022 Police issue warning in relation to Mail theft Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command wish to advise residents of a recent trend of mail being stolen from le...tter boxes in both residential and rural areas. It is believed the motivator for the offender/s is to obtain financial details either bank account details or cash cards for fraudulent use. Shoalhaven Police suggests that where possible mail should be collected as soon as possible and not left in mailboxes overnight. It is likely a victim of this type of offence may be unaware their mail has been stolen therefore it is imperative that residents if receiving a phone call in relation to bank details that they do not provide any personal details to any person over the phone particularly your pin number. If it is a legitimate financial Institute they would have your details and would not ask for your pin number. If you suspect that your bank account has been compromised contact you Financial Institute and Police immediately. Anyone who is the victim of this type stealing should immediately report the matter to Police or the Police Assistance Line (PAL) 131444. Any information can also be provided to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
