25.01.2022 Tracking your morning basal body temperature is a scientific way to observe and confirm ovulation. It works because the progesterone you make after ovulation st...imulates your thyroid and raises your resting body temperature by half a degree. It's as reliable as a blood test. Yet, oddly, many doctors don't seem to know about it. . One of my patients recently told me this story. She had been to her gynecologist to talk about spotting and irregular cycles, which she understood (from reading my book) to be "anovulatory" cycles. This is how the conversation went: . Patient: "Here, my basal body temperature charts show I'm not ovulating." Gynecologist: "That's not a thing. Here, take this pill." . Come on medicine, seriously, do better! Women benefit from ovulatory cycles (and yes, BBT charting IS a thing). See more

23.01.2022 Suffering seasonal allergies this spring? Sinusitis or upper respiratory tract infections (ie colds)? Did you know that pineapples are a great "food as medicine" to include in your diet to help reduce these symptoms. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain which helps reduce inflammation as well as breaks up mucous so your body can expel it. For a delicious healing respiratory tonic, head to my blog for the recipe - https://buff.ly/2D85TYQ
23.01.2022 This made me giggle
21.01.2022 This is very promising news. How sad for this man and his family to go through this - my heart goes out to them. However, we might finally see a stop to the damage glyphosate is causing our environment, and our health! Hopefully more court case wins like this one begin happening!
20.01.2022 Yikes. Probably a good time to go back to growing our own fruits, veges and herbs in our own backyards! And if you can't do that, support those smaller local farms that can to ensure we keep these businesses alive. Coles and woolies will walk away fine after the pandemic, but the smaller produce businesses and farms may start to disappear if we are not careful. Head to your local markets, produce stores & local butchers, rather than hitting the big chains for the majority of your shopping. Like a billboard outside one of my favourite local cafes has written: "Small businesses are like muscles. You'll lose them, if you don't use them"
20.01.2022 Quite a good article on how to increase prebiotic foods in our diets.... https://amp.nine.com.au//6588ea3a-ac01-4b64-ba8c-05a5edc65
19.01.2022 If we look at this ever expanding dependence and machine of mega-farming scale, we become very prone to catastrophic failures of the delivery system. In the last month weve had 18 million pounds of beef recalled from two different events because of e-coli and salmonella; these invasive bacteria that are a symptom of a collapse of the greater microbiome of those cows. It takes a mega industry to screw up that big, to make us that vulnerable. Dr Zach Bush This short film (20... minutes) is very beautifully made & is quite relaxing to watch with the beautiful imagery of these farms. Take a time out for 20 minutes to see the success of these small farms reclaiming the methods of their ancestors with regenerative agriculture. Working with mother nature to produce healthy, nutritious foods; its extremely inspiring to see what Farmers Footprint in the US has managed to do in such a short span of time. What is the best way to support similar farmers in Australia? Head to the local farmers markets for your produce, choose organic where you can & buy locally. It may be the best thing you can do for your health https://farmersfootprint.us/watch/

16.01.2022 Some excellent tips from the Physicians for Safe Technology. I suggest everyone (especially those with young children) incorporate these suggestions into your daily life. This website has excellent resources and info regarding the effects of wireless radiation on our health. Quick rundown of tips: Recommendations for safer use of wireless devices 1) Do not let babies or young children use a cell phone, tablet or laptop 2) Children should use a cell phone for emergencies only ...3) Avoid sleeping with your cell phone next to your head or as an alarm unless phone is on Airplane Mode (it still works as an alarm) 4) Turn off Wi-Fi router at night and plug into an on/off surge protector for ease of use 5) Convert back to a wired connection in your house. It is easy. Visit EMFAnalysis.com 6) Replace the DECT cordless phone with a landline corded phone. Keep landline. 7) Keep tablets and laptops on the tabletop and not on the lap. Standards are for 7 inches away 8) Keep cell phones away from the head and do not put your cell phone in a bra or pocket unless on Airplane Mode 9) Do not keep router in the bedroom or near childs room. 09.01.2022 Happy weekend! I just wanted to let everyone know that I am currently in the midst of updating my website - it should be back up and running in the next week or so. And by updating my website, somehow the server cut off my email - so if anyone has tried to email me in the last few weeks and has not received a reply from me, I am so sorry! Luckily today I had a client point out that she couldn't email me and I was able to call them up and get it fixed. However my email is de...finitely working again ([email protected] au). Some of you still have my old email ([email protected]) which has been working. You can also contact me via my phone (0449 297 465) and via my business fb page. For those on Practice Better you can also PM me through there. I'm now just realising why so many people started to contact me through FB messenger Thank you, and I hope you all have an AMAZING weekend!!
08.01.2022 Self acceptance sounds easy in theory, but it's not always easy in practice. Because to be kind and accepting of ourselves means to see ourselves for who we truly are - baggage, warts, embarrassments and all... Some of us tend towards seeing the negative in ourselves more than the positive; while for others its the reverse... But if we deny those hidden parts of ourselves, then we will also deny them in others. We will judge traits we see in them that we don't like, but witho...ut understanding the underlying reason why... But if we can accept ourselves for who we are - who we REALLY are - then the love, kindness and acceptance we show ourselves will inevitably extend to all those around us. And we will start to look at others through softer eyes and with a gentler heart... Understanding ourselves is key... It's not easy, it's not always obvious either but I really think the depths of this quote by Carl Jung is profound... Because perhaps... that's where real healing begins Leanne #nutritionalhealing #brisbanenutritionist #onlinenutritionist #emotionalhealing
08.01.2022 Happy 2020!! Looking to fulfill your new years resolutions and make this year your year in regards to health & wellness? Ever wondered what your gut microbiome looks like (that HUGE ecosystem that lives inside you and is made up of literally trillions of microbes such as bacteria, fungus, protozoa etc). Huge amounts of research are showing that many microorganisms living in your gut can have a MAJOR influence on your health and well-being; not just in regards to gut conditi...ons (which it most certainly does) but in many other chronic diseases as well. Hippocrates once said "all disease begins in the gut" and this is now being proven true with the latest scientific research and discoveries into this amazing new world of our gut ecosystem. Brisbane now has one of the most comprehensive microbiome tests available on the market (Microba) which is why I've teamed up with them to become a Microba Informed Practitioner. With microbiome repair the focus is on RESTORING and REPAIRING the microbiome rather than DESTROYING or DEPLETING it. Click on the link below if you'd like to know more or have a quick chat about how microbiome testing may help you on your health journey. All the best in 2020! 07.01.2022 A short little video to show how easy (and yummy!) a homemade tomato sauce can be. All you need is some garlic, onion, celery, tomatoes (fresh and/or canned), herbs, spices, s&p & just a little bit of spare time to make it! Each time I make this sauce it turns out a little different (depends on what I have in the kitchen usually!) This time I didn't have fresh herbs (which I'd always recommend as the best option) but it still turned out delicious! Half went into the freezer and half straight into a Bolognese. Enjoy! #brisbanenutritionist #homemadesauce #asternutritionaltherapy
07.01.2022 Iron deficiency is one of the most common things I see in clinic- especially amongst young women. Most people think of red meat as the main source of iron- but did you know iron is very high in some of these other delicious plant based foods? Increasing iron-rich foods in the diet is easy to do once you add some of these foods- lentils, legumes, sesame seeds, spinach (along with some vitamin c to aid absorption- so squeeze some lemon over that spinach!) #increaseironnaturally #plantbasedfoods #HealthyFood #healing #asternutritionaltherapy #nutritionalwisdom

04.01.2022 This is fascinating! Just another reminder that we live in their world (microbes- meaning bacteria, fungus etc) - not the other way around.... https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2019//190424153544.htm
04.01.2022 Its very common to see people who don't digest proteins very well due to digestive dysfunction - it can be due to things like low stomach acid, lack of digestive enzymes, microbiome imbalances (microbial imbalances can be from the mouth, stomach, small intestine, colon). This article shows some of the common signs and symptoms associated with protein deficiency or malabsorption. For those who are healing or recovering from illness, your body requires more protein. As this article advises, a whole food diet is an excellent place to start!
03.01.2022 It has been a while since I've done one of these videos! And with these last few drizzly cold days in Brissy, these double choc chip cookies, warm from the oven are SUPER delicious made from ground sunflower seeds & flax seeds, these cookies are full of fibre & of course some delicious chocolate naughtiness (I go with gf/df from the local health food store). This recipe makes roughly 12-20 cookies (depends on how large you like to make them! 10-12 mins at 180 degrees C. Enjoy!! #brisbanenutritionist #loveisfood #chocolatechipcookies #delicioustreats
03.01.2022 Its been shown that as we get older, our gut microbiome's composition begins to lessen in diversity. Loss of diversity in general can be due to a lot of reasons - including diet, stress, smoking, drinking, environmental influences as well as the changes which naturally occur to our digestive function as we get older. One of the other main reasons for loss of diversity can be antibiotic use - especially if there is no restoration or repair of the gut microbiome during or after... antibiotics are used. There's no doubt that antibiotics was one of the greatest discoveries in the 20th Century and have led to countless lives being saved. But overuse of antibiotics has become a very real and dangerous issue - especially with the rise in antibiotic resistant strain bacteria and chronic illnesses linked with poor gut function. This article is particularly interesting - as it shows the affects of antibiotic use on an aging microbiome and how that can lead to arterial dysfunction in cardiovascular disease. Given the rise in cardiovascular disease (CVD) in recent years, it is definitely worthwhile looking into gut function and repair of the microbiome (as well as other risk factors) to reduce the risk of CVD as we get older.
