25.01.2022 Mars is coming!!! Closest to Earth on 6th of October 2020. Opposition on 14th October of 2020. You won't need to get up early with the birds on these days...it will be visible after sunset....but best viewed around midnight.
24.01.2022 Bronwyn the Christmas Elf, picked up her Skywatcher ED80 refractor kit today. Lucky Santa has lost his naughty and nice list, so I ended up with these slick ginger bread cookies. They look AMAZING!!!
24.01.2022 This was our first star party in 6 months, and it was great to catch up with great friends under the Milky Way. There were 33 people and 10 telescopes.
23.01.2022 So...what does everyone think the weather is going to do this Saturday??? Just in case the sky is clear...we have booked Watts Bridge Airfield for our annual Halloween Star Party. Setup location map is in the comments. Remember to keep to 20kph when driving on the airfield grounds. Toilets are provided. BYO food and drink. Camping is also allowed. All Covid rules apply, and we will have to provide a contact tracing list to the airfield organisers.

16.01.2022 Just a reminder that there'll be some great planetary viewing until December. Opposition dates are: Jupiter July 14th Saturn July 21st Mars October 14th... Both Jupiter and Saturn will appear very close together in the night sky on December 21st...both will be viewable in the same eyepiece!!! See more

03.01.2022 MARS is growing smaller in the night sky as we travel further away. What a contrast from a few weeks ago, with an angular size of around 25 arcseconds back then..., and now it's 17.6 arcseconds. Mars is relatively small in the night sky but is very bright when closer to earth, with a maximum magnitude of -2.62 (now it's -1.62). There are also some sand storms crossing the planet too. I went out to the Astro Anarchy Star Party at Watts Bridge Airfield last Saturday to take this image.. Very clear skies but seeing was 4-5... It's not very often I go out of the city, and what a pleasure it was to see the stars without light pollution... Optics Central See more
