23.01.2022 A big shout out to all the fabulous women who work with us at Astron. Making up the vast majority of our business, each day these women (and many more) work tirelessly to either help our clients manage their environmental footprint or to support those that do. But most importantly they play a huge roll in crafting who we are as a business.... and we like who we are :-) Thanks to all of you for your dedication, commitment, enthusiasm, work ethic and contribution #IWD2018 #awesomewomen #advancing #equality #PressforProgress

23.01.2022 Today is National Threatened Species Day a day dedicated to raising awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction. Threatened Species Day was declared in 1996 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the death of the last remaining Tasmanian tiger (or thylacine) at Hobart Zoo in 1936. Unfortunately the thylacine is one of many Australian species lost to extinction since European settlement, with more than 100 animal and plant species becoming extinct over the past 200 years. One species at risk is the western ringtail possum (Pseudocheirus occidentalis), a small to medium sized arboreal marsupial found in south-west WA. Photo courtesy DPaW.

21.01.2022 Remotely monitor the health of 100,000 trees? No problem! Using aerial imagery and advanced image processing techniques the Geospatial team have been tracking the health of 100,000 trees in Western Australia's Pilbara region between 2006 and present day. Remote sensing projects like this seek to compliment on ground surveys, which are usually only designed to monitor the health of a very small proportion of trees due to time, access and cost restraints. #bigdata #trees #treehealth #remotesensing

19.01.2022 Beautiful sunny conditions for flying in the Murchison. We are up here undertaking vegetation health monitoring with our C-Astral Bramor UAV carrying a modified Sony a6000 Near Infrared camera. Just about to finish our 7th two hour flight and mission complete!

19.01.2022 Beauty in the eye of the beholder! The turtle frog (Myobatrachus gouldii) has a face only a mother can love, however we at Astron think this species is something quite special. The turtle frog is only found within the vicinity of Swan Coastal Plain of Western Australia and usually emerges from underground after significant rainfall. This little guy was recently captured during a fauna survey by Astrons fauna team.

19.01.2022 Interested in seeing your entire mine site and being able to monitor rehabilitation performance at the landscape scale? Please give our team a call to discuss the potential of RPM for your mine site rehabilitation. www.minerpm.com #remotesensing #mining #miningWA #innovation

18.01.2022 Invasive weeds are serious business.. We don't muck around when it comes to protecting our precious environment from these alien invaders. Qualified, trained, well equipped and all carefully watched over by our very own 'Astro Bear'.. Let's do this

17.01.2022 Its beautifully sunny and mild weather in WAs Pilbara region right now, but our very own Astro Bear is still taking advantage of the shade offered by a Senna Ferraria shrub. Even during the more mild part of the year, its still important to be cautious of heat stress and to keep hydrated, cover up from the sun and to take adequate rest breaks. We love ya work little bear

16.01.2022 Mine rehabilitation is certainly a topical subject lately. Several state governments are reviewing their policies after coming under pressure from environmental groups to improve regulation and performance of mine rehabilitation and miners are feeling pressure on their 'social licence' to operate. Mining is an integral part of our economy, according to Deloitte, mining and METS sector accounted for a $37.8 billion economic contribution to WAs Pilbara region 88 per cent of ...total regional economic activity. It also accounted for nearly 94,000 jobs both directly and indirectly in the area. So it's clear to see that mining is important for our future. However equally as important is responsible environmental management, and improving rehabilitation performance in the mining industry is critical. So let's take a look back out our recent series on assessing rehabilitation success. http://www.astron.com.au//assessing-rehabilitation-succes/ See more

16.01.2022 Hey Everyone, We have another amazing opportunity to work at AStron. If you have Remote Sensing experience please check out our advert below!

13.01.2022 This week we acquired our one millionth! hectare of Digital Globe Worldview satellite data for vegetation health monitoring projects in the Pilbara through our partner Geoimage. The 1.2 meter eight band multispectral and 30 cm panchromatic resolution that Worldview satellite data enables Astron to quantitatively monitor vegetation health through time, at the scale of individual tree canopies, for every tree within each monitoring area. As our clients embrace these technological and analytical innovations their monitoring programs are becoming safer, more comprehensive, precise and economical. #treehealth #remotesensing #GDE

13.01.2022 Fantastic work by these bird watchers to sight the elusive Night parrot in Northern WA. http://ow.ly/wzug30ab3yf

13.01.2022 The southwest region is Australias only global biodiversity hotspot. Stretching from Shark Bay in the north to Israelite Bay in the south, this region hosts a huge variety of species that have evolved in isolation for millions of years. A number of bioregions occur within the southwest, each with its own unique habitats and suite of species. This photo is of a wetland surrounded by shrublands and woodlands on the Swan Coastal Plain.

12.01.2022 This beast has just returned from the #Pilbara where she's been fighting the war against invasive weeds for the past 3 years and she's got plenty to give yet Bring on 2018! #environmentalweeds #toyota #quikspray

12.01.2022 Check out this awesome little collection of geckos recently captured by Astron ecologists from just one pitfall trap in the Pilbara region of Western Australia: Lucasium stenodactylum, Diplodactylus bilybara (formerly D. conspicillatus) and Rhynchoedura ornata.

11.01.2022 A Northern Quoll captured via a motion sensitive camera. This technology has increased the effectiveness of fauna surveys, especially when used as a supplement to traditional trapping techniques. Passive survey methods, such as motion sensitive cameras and ultrasonic bat recorders, have increased the detection rate of cryptic or trap shy fauna, as well as reducing stress to the animals.

10.01.2022 Good luck to everyone involved in The Great Cocky Count this weekend. This community based project is one of the biggest single survey events for black cockatoos in Western Australia. Committed and dedicated volunteers across the region monitor known roost sites and count black-cockatoos as they come in to their evening roosts. #citizenscience #greatcockycount

09.01.2022 We're super proud to be involved in finding innovative solutions for mining resource challenges. Last week our MD, Julian Kruger, was involved in a week long intensive boot camp held at the Queensland University of Technology. As part of METS Ignited, the program seeks to solve global sustainability challenges in sectors such as mining resources and agriculture. Here Jules is pictured with METS Ignited GM Dr Ian Dover (left) and Queensland's Chief Entrepreneur and 'Shark' from Shark Tank Steve Baxter (centre). #METSIngited #deliveringenvironmentalintelligence #emapper #sustainability

03.01.2022 With the Great Cocky Count taking place this Sunday 9th April we thought we would highlight the importance of Western Australias cockatoo species by sharing this case study. Our zoologists undertook a targeted black cockatoo fauna assessment at a site planned for vegetation clearing, surveying the site for foraging, roosting and breeding potential. http://ow.ly/aaTU30axYXN
