25.01.2022 With the majority of my night photography I am looking for the clearest of dark skies. Usually this means very intentionally avoiding the moon and any sort of cloud cover where I can. I've been visiting family on the coast for the past few weeks and was excited to visit some of my favorite coastal spots. #coastal #lunar #moonscape

25.01.2022 It was above one year ago that I did my first tracked close-up imaging of the milky way core. Using drift alignment I managed to achieve a pretty solid polar alignment using apps on my mobile phone. I'm still really happy with the image I was able to produce using my small Micro Four Third sensor Panasonic GX85 and Olympus 75mm f/1.8 #MilkyWay #Sigma85mmf/14DGDNArt #SonyA7R #StarTracking

25.01.2022 Spectacular Lunar Halo I was able to capture a few weeks ago, one of the most intense I've ever seen. This is a short clip I made from the footage taken that night, hope you enjoy.

18.01.2022 https://youtu.be/_3ZGQ6uDfP8 With the last year being what it was, it has been some time since I managed to get a solid chunk of time to get out and do any location scouting for future shoots. Almost felt a bit foreign to be out amongst it again when that chance did come around again. #Adventure #Discovery #PanasonicGX85 #scouting

13.01.2022 Have been drawn to photographing the moon over this last year during lock down, however despite having some pretty decent telephoto lenses I was never able to do it justice. I just wasn't getting close enough. Hopefully that is able to chance now as I've just picked up my first telescope, a used Celestron C90 MAK. With a native focal length of 1250mm combined with the 2x crop of a Micro Four Thirds camera, I am now able to photograph the moon at a 2500mm Full Frame focal length equivalent.

11.01.2022 https://youtu.be/xtbZMlVI-qM Had a near perfect alignment of the rising moon and the cathedral in the town where I live a few weeks ago and took my cameras out to a high point to see what I could capture. #lunar #moon #Olympus75300mmV2 #PanasonicGX85 #Samyang135mmf/2 #SonyA7R #SonyA7SIII #SonyFE20mmf/18G

11.01.2022 https://youtu.be/RGUTG8jO0pc Recently spent some time in Beechworth in North Western Victoria following the lifting of our second COVID-19 induced lock down. Not an ideal time of the lunar cycle for Milky Way photography with the moon at its brightest, however having so few opportunities to get out this year and being in a new place, I made the most of it anyway. #illuminated #moon #SonyA7R #SonyA7S #SonyFE20mmf/18G

07.01.2022 https://youtu.be/aEB0jDnQU7U When it comes to camera gear, in my view the lighter and more compact the better. This is one of the main reasons I have never entirely jumped on the Full Frame bandwagon as I generally reserve the use of my Full Frame gear to astro related imaging and elect to go with a much more light, compact and discrete Micro Four Third setup for daytime shooting.

07.01.2022 The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 has been my primary wide angle lens for astrophotography for some time, it is an awesome lens, but not without its issues. Earlier this year Sony released their 20mm option which was touted as being a cheaper version of the 24mm f/1.4 GM lens. This GM lens is renowned for it's astro performance, so I immediately ordered myself the 20mm as I love this focal length. In this video I do a comparison of these high calibre 20mm options. https://youtu.be/xJkK3I7rC7Y

05.01.2022 Several hours worth of photos here all brought together to produce a single star trail image. The golden sky is a result of the tungsten lights of a nearby regional airport. #startrails #nightsky #astrophotography #longexposure #nightscape

04.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWXFUDsx6ik Has been a great few months for lunar observations with supermoons for both April and May. The May supermoon had the bonus of of a complete lunar eclipse visible from pretty much anywhere over the Pacific. Possibly the only downside was the eclipse took place high off the horizon making any sort of foreground composition impossible. #Eclipse #GX85 #lunar #Olympus75300mmV2 #Supermoon

04.01.2022 https://youtu.be/6DCsbam4Soc Has been too long since I spent any significant time under the stars, so when I saw that the peak of the Geminids meteor shower coincided with a day off I was pretty excited. I did a bunch of scouting and planning in the days leading up, ultimately choosing to head north for the dark skies as the Geminids radiant was forecast at just 22 degrees above the horizon at #Geminids #meteor #Sony20mmf/18 #SonyA7R #SonyA7S

01.01.2022 With much of the planet in lock-down due to covid-19, it really does offer an opportunity to stand back and evaluate what we have and what really matters. As we head into late Autumn here in the Southern Hemisphere, the break from the daily grind resulting from this virus has given pause to really appreciate some of the natural beauty in my local surrounds.
