23.01.2022 We’re almost there! We’ve been calling for the Federal Government to reverse its plans to massively increase the fees for social and community services degrees. The Nationals have come around to our view now we need to get Scott Morrison to agree that these degrees should have fee reductions, not fee hikes, to recognise the need to significantly grow the workforce to meet our community’s needs. 20.01.2022 The Morrison Government's plan to increase fees for social and community services university degrees will be devastating for this critical workforce and the community. In a survey of our members who are currently studying social and community services degrees, almost all of them said they would consider moving to nursing or teaching because of these fee hikes. This would be disastrous for the sector, the people these workers support, and the entire community. This decision ...MUST be reversed. Stop the SACS Fee Hikes. https://www.smh.com.au//i-m-now-thinking-of-retraining-uni

17.01.2022 It's 2 weeks until the Federal budget is released. So far there's been no commitment from the Government to saving equal pay for social & community services. We have less than 2 weeks to make this happen!... Email your MP and demand action to SAVE EQUAL PAY. http://bit.ly/ASUSEP

16.01.2022 ASU WIN! ASU members have been campaigning since June to stop the fee hike on social and community services degrees since the Federal Government announced a fee hike of 113%. Last night ASU members from around the country met with over 40 politicians from across the political spectrum to explain why increasing fees was a bad idea.... Today, the government listened and we've won our campaign! Thank you to every ASU member who spoke to their MP, signed a petition and took action to make sure frontline, essential workers in social and community services are respected and valued. We will continue to push the government to ensure all relevant social and community services degrees are included in the Professional Pathway Social Work.

14.01.2022 Attn: Domestic and family violence support workers Can you share your insight as a support worker? New UNSW research will look at how domestic and family violence services are adapting to help vulnerable people during the COVID-19 crisis. They need to hear from the DFV support workforce to help inform changes to policy and practice that will ensure better outcomes for people impacted by DFV. 13.01.2022 In 2012 we won fairer pay for those working in social and community services. These increases were won because of a long campaign by ASU members. When we won Equal Pay, state and federal government set aside special funds to cover our new higher rates of pay. This guaranteed funding expires in December. Now it’s clear that the federal government has not budgeted to lift the funding into the future. So we must act now to Save Equal Pay. SIGN THE PETITION: saveequalpay.com

12.01.2022 Hundreds of ASU members and frontline workers have just met to plan how we are going to Save Equal Pay. These workers have helped carry Australia through the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the most vulnerable people in our communities while their services have been in more demand than ever. Social and community services workers deserve to be valued and respected, not have their wages, jobs & services cut. We have fought for and won equal pay before and we will do it again. 05.01.2022 Equal Pay funding has meant social and community services workers like you are now able to earn a livable wage for the work that you do. Now the Federal Government is threatening to take that away. Email your MP and demand action to SAVE EQUAL PAY! http://bit.ly/ASUSEP

05.01.2022 Brand new research has found that 12,000 essential jobs in front-line social and community services could be lost if the federal government doesn't commit to Save Equal Pay. Social and community services workers have been carrying Australia through the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the most vulnerable people in our community as demand has surged. Already, workers feel undervalued and services underfunded. The government must act, and it must act now.... 05.01.2022 BREAKING: ASU members have Saved Equal Pay! Tonight in the Federal Budget, the Government announced that they would fund Equal Pay! This means we’ve won our campaign to save frontline social and community services jobs. We’ve won our campaign to stop pay cuts. We’ve won our campaign for recognition of essential work in social and community services. ASU members campaigned, and the Government has listened. But there’s still work to do. As always, we know the devil is in the d...etail. We don’t want any job left out or any service missed. But this is a very good first step and victory for ASU members. And we also know that this Budget hasn't been good for everyone. Too many workers have been left out. Too many people who have carried Australia through this pandemic have not received the support they deserve. So we will keep campaigning. Because when we unite, when we campaign, we can win. 04.01.2022 For months we have been calling for Paid Pandemic Leave for all workers, particularly for those working in disability, social and community services. Today we have heard the concerning news that three residents and seven staff in a Victorian disability group home have contracted COVID-19. This is an emergency. The Fair Work Commission and Morrison Government must bring in Paid Pandemic Leave now.... Lives depend on it.
