25.01.2022 The Life and Calculations of PI - why and the new normal... It was one of those curious calculations we learn't at school, and I always thought "where on earth would I use this again?" It can actually be used in building and construction, the making of bicycles, medical procedures, amongst other things.... I have never really been positioned to use it, but it doesn't mean it won't be important one day soon or down the track. The same can apply for businesses getting used to the new normal. A lot of the path that has been trailed up to now for businesses, has changed and will not go back to how it was, especially when you consider the digitalization of businesses and permanent changes to the sales funnels of businesses off the back of this. It doesn't mean you completely disregard the past and what has kept your business rolling up to this point, don't lose your identity, but re-mould and spark up your business' identity. #smallbusiness #allbusiness #newnormal #businessidentity #digital #shapeyourfuture
24.01.2022 Customer silhouette - whats yours? Do you have a strict idea on what your customer silhouette is, or are you flexible on who and how you sell and/or offer your services? During these times, flexibility is important. Actually, the ability to change it up or flex with the times is something we all need to be able to get our head around.... For SMEs in particular, knowledge and understanding about what your customer silhouette has or is, versus what it can or should be, is a task well worth delving into in order to be confident about where you are heading during these extremely tough times... #smallbusiness #knowyourbusiness #customerknowledge #silhouette #smes

21.01.2022 Small businesses whats your spirit shout? We are all acutely aware of the struggles that many businesses are working through at the moment. If it’s not Covid-19 lockdowns, it’s bushfires, floods or other weather events that keep putting challenges and speed-humps in front of them.... It is often easier to say to people/business owners, stay tough, stick at it, soldier on, maintain the rage, yarda yarda yarda, than it is for the business owners to keep getting up and having a crack day in day out. Without trying to sound gimmicky, displaying a resolute KIAI (spirit shout) will show those around you both personally, and from a business perspective, that you will continue to push forward, find a way to keep going and in many instances, see you come out the other side wiser, stronger and more adaptable. The question is - will your KIAI be a yelp or a unified and energetic release that inspires? Get on the ZENKETSU DACHI (front foot) and do your best to stay positive and proactive. Being proactive also includes asking for help when you need it. And yes, this post was inspired by my 5yo’s karate class #smallbusiness #allbusiness #smallbusinesssupport #toughtimes #tougherpeople #stayresolute #moveforward #mentalhealth #staypositive #askforhelp #proactive
20.01.2022 Forecasting your costs no time like the present For many small businesses, you may have a bit more time on your hands to take steps to understand more about your day in, day out expenses and how these can be managed. Some little cash-flow pearls of wisdom to look out for include:... 1. Overhead costs focus on electricity/lighting/machinery. 2. Supplier costs a great time to re-visit supplier contracts, terms and payment plan options or discounts if you can pay certain invoices upfront or a lot quicker. Sounds counter-productive but there can be significant benefit in utilising some of your cash reserves to stock up or pay certain suppliers/vendors quickly. 3. Marketing spend many businesses have a dedicated (and often fixed idea on) what their marketing or A&P spend should be. Now is the time to get away from this and do some serious review on applying a profit to spend review on this area you need to be more targeted with your marketing to sell spend and whether the current strategy you have in place is working or spitting cash into the stratosphere for minimal result. Grab any gold nugget you can to survive and thrive... #cashflow #costcontrol #manageyourspend #overheads #marketingspend #transactional #finance #smallbusiness #allbusiness #sme
17.01.2022 SME investment and strategy - when to spend? It is certainly a curly issue for many SME owners, whether times are tough or not, one little devil on the shoulder may be pushing towards conservatism by holding onto your cash tightly. However, there is a strong argument, and even more so when times are a little tough, to utilise any spare cashflow or funds banked to bolster new projects or capacity depending upon your industry, in order to be strongly positioned to maintain duri...ng the hard slog and prosper and thrive quickly on the other side... Having the versatility and know-how to pick up on these opportunities can set your SME apart. It could be project-related, service provider-related or simply a more impactful business partnering outcome with your core day to day business by diverting spend appropriately, even a new promotional strategy, where a short term spend spike to nail down a new project could springboard you into 2021 and beyond... #smallbusiness #sme #newopportunity #takecontrol #frontfoot #strategy #cashflow #capacity
13.01.2022 Stoking the fire - be consistent... Many businesses are walking a fine line as we move headlong into the fire that is the second half of 2020. Some businesses would be feeling warmer than others, but it is an important time to keep the creative and consistency fires burning where you can for your business, and the steps you are taking to steady the ship and navigate the next period of time. It is even harder for many businesses to call on help or additional help from their business and finance advisors due to the cashflow and funding impacts, but there are providers out there willing to assist and provide flexible terms. #businesssupport #consistency #stokethefire #smallbusiness #allbusiness #cashflow #focus
10.01.2022 Danger for SMEs jumping into the online marketing realm... If your business was not present online and was not utilising advertising and promotional avenues pre-Covid, it more than likely is now and it will be very fruitful for your business' future. However, whilst it is critical to make this opportunity a permanent feature for your business, it is very important to not go headlong into this space without having the right guidance or a plan to take your marketing and promoti...on forward effectively. Businesses can very easily rack up considerable spend for little result if they do not have a focused ad campaign, identify the right technologies and speak to the right people - remember for every digital mastermind out there willing and ready to help, you are also likely to encounter fraudsters and other so-called marketing guns who can take advantage very quickly. Snuff them out by asking a lot of questions of any proposed providers and of any other trusted advisors who will generally know straight away. #advertising #promotion #smallbusiness #allbusiness #focus #askquestions #digitalopportunity #cautious
10.01.2022 Social shopping why it is appealing for businesses now more than ever As businesses source new and quicker methods of resale, new and repeat customer attraction, there is plenty of appeal in diverting your advertising and promotional spend towards social interaction platforms. No, I do not mean going full throttle into online ads and full-blown promotional activity that often is targeted towards the ‘wrong’ crowd. Some would say, there isn’t a wrong crowd when you are tryin...g to achieve mass or large exposure for your business. However, in these times, many businesses need to be creative but frugal in diverting their sales and promotional spend to more direct and better ROI linked strategies. Enter social commerce and AI and social interaction. By engaging with a consumer learning platform that can provide critical sales-relevant information about your current or likely consumer silhouette and profile, businesses have a great opportunity to fine tune their targeted promotion, with a solution that is straight-forward, affordable yet targeted = cost effective sales growth potential. #socialcommerce #socialinteraction #smallbusiness #allbusiness #opportunity #growyourbusiness #gellzaustralia
09.01.2022 Digital processing and the benefits to businesses... Many businesses, especially some SMEs, have always had a stigma about diverting their attention to digitizing their processes and incoming payments. Recent events may have had changed that mindset, but it is important to set down the specifics as to why it can be beneficial to your business both from a day to day perspective, but also from a compliance and future planning perspective as well.... Cost is a huge one, previous misconceptions about substantial costs being associated with utilising new and improved tech and systems are slowly being eradicated. SMEs now understand the benefits in the whole process from implementation to receiving cash quicker to being able to access financial information and reporting about their business - but there is still a way to go. If done right, the customer experience will have improved as well, but it can be even better, and SMEs should be open to looking at social commerce alternatives as they open up to the opportunities to refine and improve their sales and marketing process. The cashflow and working capital benefits will be immense accordingly. #costcontrol #smes #digitalopportunity #smallbusiness #allbusiness #socialcommerce #cashflow #salesgrowth #workingcapital
04.01.2022 Got it, just in time or did you? We all want our products delivered on time, accurately and with no hiccups, nothing much has changed there. What has changed is the world as we know it in the midst of Covid-19.... It hasn’t lowered our delivery expectations though so how do businesses handle this? How much inventory should businesses hold? There are so many variations on this topic, which came up yesterday in a discussion, is Just in Time (JIT) still relevant. It certainly is, but a lot depends on the nature of the product that is in the mix. Consumers are being forced to wait due to extended delivery times, costs increasing, and businesses in a state of flux as to how much they should order. Do they stock extra (cashflow permitting), to be ready to handle the upside, or do they scale back, risk shortages if demand rises, and risk consumer backlash or disappointment If your product is premium, consumers are more likely to be willing to wait, but competition in many sectors especially online retail, leaves a lot of businesses scrambling to stay on top of their supply chains and inventory It is critical to know your value proposition and commitment offer to consumers and stand by it, this will dictate your strategy behind supply chain and inventory management #supplychain #inventory #cashflow #justintime #customer #costmanagement
03.01.2022 Self-diagnosis - Dr Google - the danger for SMEs... During tough times with your business, the pain points flare up naturally for businesses, there is no secret to that. However, making rash or hasty judgments about what your business needs without proper consultation with internal stakeholders(staff, managers) and external stakeholders(customers, suppliers, consultants) can amplify the pain and lead those pain points to your business needing to be attached to a drip or worse.... Do not be afraid to harness the knowledge firstly of your internal staff, there may be skills that they have that you can utilise to make the necessary changes, whether it be moving to online, nutting out cost-related haemorrhaging or speculating about new sales funnel/channel opportunities. From there, you can frank those improvements with external resources, many of which can be supplied at very manageable rates and with trusted providers who are simply in it to help your business survive to thrive... Be mindful though, many free sources of information can be quite generic and more applicable to when you are in a stable position with your business and medium to large-sized businesses, so use resources wisely, and make sure that you are asking questions to the right people... #smallbusinesssupport #sme #costcontrol #knowledge #resources #ataconsultingptyltd
02.01.2022 Business mission simple vs textbook vs unique A mission statement or catch-cry is important to define, but you do not want it to be too generic or stereotypical, especially if your business will thrive or die by it. Making your mission statement buzz is great from a promotional and marketing perspective, especially when you look to tie it to your value proposition. ... Making it too crazy can work the other way, not to say this is always a bad thing polarising opinion often is a preliminary to greatness. Conversely, using a simple textbook phrase or banner that has been used and abused in the past will most likely serve as no benefit to your business or your employee mindset, and it certainly won’t provide you with that resonating statement that is so often associated with new and vibrant brands. Being unique is great, to a point, but unique can also be confusing, mis-interpreted and unfashionable for many people. Beware whilst you want to showcase a new idea, concept/product/service to the masses, having a wild and woolly business mission as part of this communication could be detrimental to the success you are striving for What is your mission? #businessmission #missionstatement #buzzwords #unique #communication #concept #smallbusiness #allbusiness #missionpossible
02.01.2022 Organic marketing reach is becoming more exposed as the number of people hopping online for products and services grows daily, platforms change and evolve, and marketing spend is refined across all businesses to find an edge.
