25.01.2022 Self-diagnosis - Dr Google - the danger for SMEs... During tough times with your business, the pain points flare up naturally for businesses, there is no secret to that. However, making rash or hasty judgments about what your business needs without proper consultation with internal stakeholders(staff, managers) and external stakeholders(customers, suppliers, consultants) can amplify the pain and lead those pain points to your business needing to be attached to a drip or worse.... Do not be afraid to harness the knowledge firstly of your internal staff, there may be skills that they have that you can utilise to make the necessary changes, whether it be moving to online, nutting out cost-related haemorrhaging or speculating about new sales funnel/channel opportunities. From there, you can frank those improvements with external resources, many of which can be supplied at very manageable rates and with trusted providers who are simply in it to help your business survive to thrive... Be mindful though, many free sources of information can be quite generic and more applicable to when you are in a stable position with your business and medium to large-sized businesses, so use resources wisely, and make sure that you are asking questions to the right people... #smallbusinesssupport #sme #costcontrol #knowledge #resources #ataconsultingptyltd

19.01.2022 Got it, just in time or did you? We all want our products delivered on time, accurately and with no hiccups, nothing much has changed there. What has changed is the world as we know it in the midst of Covid-19.... It hasn’t lowered our delivery expectations though so how do businesses handle this? How much inventory should businesses hold? There are so many variations on this topic, which came up yesterday in a discussion, is Just in Time (JIT) still relevant. It certainly is, but a lot depends on the nature of the product that is in the mix. Consumers are being forced to wait due to extended delivery times, costs increasing, and businesses in a state of flux as to how much they should order. Do they stock extra (cashflow permitting), to be ready to handle the upside, or do they scale back, risk shortages if demand rises, and risk consumer backlash or disappointment If your product is premium, consumers are more likely to be willing to wait, but competition in many sectors especially online retail, leaves a lot of businesses scrambling to stay on top of their supply chains and inventory It is critical to know your value proposition and commitment offer to consumers and stand by it, this will dictate your strategy behind supply chain and inventory management #supplychain #inventory #cashflow #justintime #customer #costmanagement

18.01.2022 The Life and Calculations of PI - why and the new normal... It was one of those curious calculations we learn't at school, and I always thought "where on earth would I use this again?" It can actually be used in building and construction, the making of bicycles, medical procedures, amongst other things.... I have never really been positioned to use it, but it doesn't mean it won't be important one day soon or down the track. The same can apply for businesses getting used to the new normal. A lot of the path that has been trailed up to now for businesses, has changed and will not go back to how it was, especially when you consider the digitalization of businesses and permanent changes to the sales funnels of businesses off the back of this. It doesn't mean you completely disregard the past and what has kept your business rolling up to this point, don't lose your identity, but re-mould and spark up your business' identity. #smallbusiness #allbusiness #newnormal #businessidentity #digital #shapeyourfuture

16.01.2022 Danger for SMEs jumping into the online marketing realm... If your business was not present online and was not utilising advertising and promotional avenues pre-Covid, it more than likely is now and it will be very fruitful for your business' future. However, whilst it is critical to make this opportunity a permanent feature for your business, it is very important to not go headlong into this space without having the right guidance or a plan to take your marketing and promoti...on forward effectively. Businesses can very easily rack up considerable spend for little result if they do not have a focused ad campaign, identify the right technologies and speak to the right people - remember for every digital mastermind out there willing and ready to help, you are also likely to encounter fraudsters and other so-called marketing guns who can take advantage very quickly. Snuff them out by asking a lot of questions of any proposed providers and of any other trusted advisors who will generally know straight away. #advertising #promotion #smallbusiness #allbusiness #focus #askquestions #digitalopportunity #cautious

14.01.2022 SME investment and strategy - when to spend? It is certainly a curly issue for many SME owners, whether times are tough or not, one little devil on the shoulder may be pushing towards conservatism by holding onto your cash tightly. However, there is a strong argument, and even more so when times are a little tough, to utilise any spare cashflow or funds banked to bolster new projects or capacity depending upon your industry, in order to be strongly positioned to maintain duri...ng the hard slog and prosper and thrive quickly on the other side... Having the versatility and know-how to pick up on these opportunities can set your SME apart. It could be project-related, service provider-related or simply a more impactful business partnering outcome with your core day to day business by diverting spend appropriately, even a new promotional strategy, where a short term spend spike to nail down a new project could springboard you into 2021 and beyond... #smallbusiness #sme #newopportunity #takecontrol #frontfoot #strategy #cashflow #capacity

14.01.2022 Customer silhouette - whats yours? Do you have a strict idea on what your customer silhouette is, or are you flexible on who and how you sell and/or offer your services? During these times, flexibility is important. Actually, the ability to change it up or flex with the times is something we all need to be able to get our head around.... For SMEs in particular, knowledge and understanding about what your customer silhouette has or is, versus what it can or should be, is a task well worth delving into in order to be confident about where you are heading during these extremely tough times... #smallbusiness #knowyourbusiness #customerknowledge #silhouette #smes
