25.01.2022 A great interview with Anne-Maree Kaser CEO of Windana

25.01.2022 The next WFTC conference has been announced! Consider attending and letting everyone know of the excellent work we are doing in Australia and New Zealand.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to the fabulous Windana team on the opening of your new TC in Ballarat. We also hear there was an announcement for further services to be provided by both Windana and Odyssey Victoria. A wonderful achievement - and continued support for the therapeutic community method - backed by more than 50 years of research into its efficacy and outstanding results in community and prison settings.

23.01.2022 This from Rod Mullen at Amity - what a treat this day would have been! Rod Mullen is with Doug Bond and Naya Arbiter. February 3 at 7:27 AM ... This last week we had our good friend and colleague George DeLeon with us at our campus both in Los Angeles, California, and here in Tucson, Arizona. George gave a series of presentations to our faculty, students--and in LA to some of the other organizations that we work with. As in the past, everyone found these presentation on the therapeutic community valuable, and George as usual was his passionate, articulate self.

23.01.2022 A story of hope from the Salvation Armys Townsville TC. The team at Townsville have provided enormous support to the community through the recent floods - and then Sunrise and Honda came on board - with the donation of a car to assist the team. Our ATCA members are doing amazing things and in so many important and life-changing ways. Congratulations to Brad and the team at Townsville!... https://au.news.yahoo.com/visiting-salvation-army-rehab-cen

23.01.2022 Congratulations Stephen and Hope Community. This is a great story and inspiration to the field.

23.01.2022 The EFTC conference in Thessaloniki September 2019. The Call for Abstracts is advertised below!

23.01.2022 Pill testing demonstration at Ted Noffs Sydney. ATCA supports this important strategy as part of a harm reduction approach. ACT has so far been the only jurisdiction to trial this - time for all states and territories to get onborad.

21.01.2022 The EFTC Conference held in Thessaloniki this year, featured 2 days of WFTC Institute in the lead-up to the main conference. ATCA EO, Lynne Magor-Blatch, provided a full day workshop on the ATCA Standard, which invited participants to particularly look at Community as Method - with activities drawn from the TC Training Course and the Standards Quality Journal. It was a fantastic workshop - with TC participants and others attending from all over Europe. As we have always found in Australia and New Zealand (and at Amity Foundation in the US), the activity which invites people to design a poster to illustrate Community as Method produced some brilliant and creative results.

21.01.2022 Some more coverage on the ATCA campaign for increased service provision across Australia . WIN TV focussed much of the report on ACT. We are indicating a need for at least 600 more beds to meet demand across Australia. Over the past 3 days the story has been picked up by more than 500 media - radio, newspapers and TV. A fabulous result.

19.01.2022 More support to Windana and Victorias TCs. Doing fantastic work with more beds about to he rolled out.

18.01.2022 Great turn out in Darwin for NAIDOC celebrations with Banyan House taking part.

16.01.2022 ATCA member Family Drug Support - signalling conversations that we need to be having and supporting.

15.01.2022 Odyssey House is recruiting.

15.01.2022 Palmerston in WA, one of our early TC members and part of ATCA since its inception, has recently opened a new facility in Brunswick WA. Congratulations to the Palmerston team. We look forward to catching up on your news at the upcoming ATCA Conference.

14.01.2022 Those attending the ATCA training with Gerard Byrne will know he talks about this in the session on Groupwork. It is an illustration of empathy and of cooperation. There is an important message here for all of us in the work we do with others in our services.

12.01.2022 Newest ATCA member and established ACT service, Toora Women. Doing great work in the community.

11.01.2022 ATCA2019: The Future is Today

11.01.2022 This years conference is not to be missed! Adelaide - the Hotel Grand Chancellor: 28-31 October 2019.

10.01.2022 Charlie Blatch was farewelled at a small family funeral on Thursday 21 February. His friends and colleagues are now invited to a Celebration of Charlies Life, to be held on Friday 8 March at 2pm at the North Burleigh SLSC on the Gold Coast. As Charlie was fond of Hawaiian shirts his family invites everyone to wear a Hawaiian shirt or other loud outfit to celebrate his life.... For catering purposes, please RSVP to [email protected] by Tuesday 5 March.

10.01.2022 ATCA has had fabulous coverage this week calling for more beds across Australia. We are asking for 30% increase in beds, particularly to address the long waiting lists experienced by many of our services. These have largely arisen as a result of increased numbers of people contacting us with a range of problems due to methamphetamine use.

08.01.2022 An important and supported part of the strategy. Like they say - Just test the damn pills!

08.01.2022 Here's a bit of creativity from our colleagues at Proyecto Hombre. Note the entry to the TC by the Coronavirus - and then his exist from the TC - shown the door by Sponge-Bob Square-Pants. All in Spanish of course. Enjoy:

07.01.2022 Canberra ATCA member DirectionsHealth providing important information to the ACT community

07.01.2022 We have a fantastic group with us at The IVC in Adelaide from The Woolshed, DASSA, Footsteps (ADAC), Uniting Communities, Teen Challenge SA and Cyrenian House (Perth) - 22 people undertaking the TC Training Course. This is the 6th course we have rolled out in Australia this year - starting in Sydney in February, and then followed by Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane - back to Melbourne for a second program, and now here in Adelaide. So far we have had over 100 people complete the... training - 6 face to face sessions, 40hr practicum and online training in Cultural Competency. There has been a fabulous response to the training - which has been geared for all residential and outclient services - not just TCs. This is in line with the ATCA Standard, which has been developed in two tiers - the first 6 expectations applicable to residential rehabilitation services - and the full 13 for TCs. The Victorian Government has been particularly proactive in their funding support to residential services - with 100 beds recently funded in Victoria, and 92 training places through ATCA. Further training is now planned for Melbourne (4 courses in total this year), Canberra, Sydney - and Darwin. Thank you everyone for your support. The TC Training Course will be taken up by more than 200 participants over this year.

06.01.2022 Like many parents before him and since that day, it was Bob Hawkes personal pain which so spectacularly altered the way in which we view substance dependency. In 1985, Bob broke down on national television while talking about his own familys journey - and following that, the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse was conceived - giving birth in 1986 to the Australian Therapeutic Communities Association. This would become in 1991, after New Zealand TCs joined the Association,... the Australasian Therapeutic Communities Association - and the strong movement we have today to represent treatment services in Australia and New Zealand. We owe so much to this mans vision and belief in people - his own pain took away much of the stigma of substance abuse and told families they were not alone - that we might all be affected, no matter our position in society and the community - and through NCADA he ensured support would commence. There is still so much to do, as we all await confirmation of continued funding - but today we remember where ATCA commenced following that memorable Premiers Conference in 1985, and give our thanks.

06.01.2022 Great to see this exhibition in Melbourne. Congratulations to the Windana group.

06.01.2022 Vale Charlie Blatch 28.6.1949 14.2.2019 It is with great sadness that we inform members and friends of the TC Family, of the passing of Charlie Blatch on Thursday 14 February 2019. 05.01.2022 This story is a timely reminder of the need for programs to develop and expand culturally appropriate services. It was a discussion point in recent TC Training and as culturally and linguistically diverse populations settle in Australia and New Zealand, often in the context of a trauma history, we are challenged to engage effectively.

04.01.2022 Great support to the residential rehabilitation services sector from NADA. The peak body has released a report calling for a significant increase in beds in NSW. ATCA welcomes and supports the call.

04.01.2022 ATCA member Windana welcomes guest from Phoenix Futures Glasgow to assist in launch of Welcome House.

04.01.2022 Ted Noffs Foundation CEO Matt Noffs will be at the Press Club in Canberra together with Mick Palmer. An important event.
