16.01.2022 As an architect I'm interested in identifying and understanding problems - of all kinds - and then imagining the solutions. That's fundamentally it. . Designing what could be, and foreseeing how it can help people, and propel all of us, that little step forwards in history. . As a designer, politics is the last thing I'd naturally have an interest in. That is, up until recently, where I've seemingly just begun to understand the degrees to which progress is being actively stif...led, all while expending precious natural and economic resource. . It seems like watching a soap opera, or a high-school popularity contest, but actually all parties are aware of what's at stake here, yet the show goes on. . And I agree more and more with the kids and their ongoing campaign with Friday Strikes for Climate. It's vivid watching all of this unfold, and even while trying to make a difference, amongst the "adults", as a professional, and someone who can see solutions, actively not being executed, it's all very disturbing. . For us it's a matter of working harder, and finding the right levers - for change. . 12.01.2022 A super quick review of the data! [a time to celebrate and be certain we can all steer the future we share!] If you haven't already, check out the graph below from the Internation Energy Agency, and article from the World Economic Forum! Here's how I read the below graph: ... The steep curves reveal the (perceived) "easiest" resources for extracting and distributing energy and therefore show the simplest uptake, in volume - convenience at play, while there was insufficient research to do better, at scale, at that particular time. The curves that began well, are falling now. The kinks in each curve indicate the resource's volatility, whether it be in the extraction or distribution stages - where market (read as: synthetic) factors have great influence in competition and monopolization of resource's extraction and distribution. Finally, the steadiest, upward curve (dark blue line), where #science and #logic have been the most dominant factors in uptake, and have steadied in line with Moore's Law - where #technology improves exponentially with time - in other words, where the sensibility has been proven, desired for, and the technological advances in materials & research are now permissive of convenience in mass execution, and the #economiesofscale production of the technology has reached market saturation. #Renewablenergy is by definition renewable - a plus in itself, over the extraction of fossil fuels! - but the fact that what we're seeing is the conservative end (the start!) of an otherwise exponential growth curve is what we should be jumping at: a time in history where the technology and infrastructure are readily available, and decentralized (on every household's roof?!); the logic is sound; the economic gains are obvious; and all we need is political, social and cultural application of our intent to execute this #betterfuture at volume! The World is changing. The old markets and monopolies are about to face the volume of individuals predisposed on self-reliant and decentralized lifestyles. The beauty is that it is all on us now, at the micro-scale, as it should have always been, just like in the fragile ecosystems in nature. Time to push hard on our leaders, for positive change over the old "business as usual", because this isn't about business. It's about survival, of many species, among our own! 03.01.2022 Our leaders have been notified of our reasoning. They've been educated on the science. They are seeing the affects of Climate Change, across all countries, in real time. And they are well aware of the requirement to respond. To the point that even school children understand the seriousness of inaction, and have taken to the streets. This is not at all business as usual. But one should not expect it to be when business as usual is exactly what brought us to this point in hist...ory. So this Friday it will not be business as usual @atelieraha. We will be closing shop, like many other businesses, because we believe this is far too important. This Friday we will be with many other human beings, young and old, who feel the pressure, and the responsibility of responding to #climatechange immediately. The mantle and stewardship of this planet rests with us, and as such, we will be making our mass consensus clear to our leaders and governments: if they have been endowed with the power to act at scale, then we shall be reminding them of their responsibility to act. If you know anyone affected, please put them in contact with us, where we will be offering pro bono (free) architectural services to design what they need in order to get their lives back online, ASAP. PLEASE LIKE, SHARE AND HELP US REACH THOSE AFFECTED BY THE FIRES. ... We will be focusing our efforts on Victoria, however if you know of anyone outside of these bounds who will need assistance moving into the future, we would be happy to see how we might be able to assist. Critically we hope to begin the process of alleviating some of the stresses that have fallen upon these people and families with these events, by taking care of some of this burden and anxiety that they face in light of many immediate unknowns.
