25.01.2022 Have you ever read the operating manual to YOU? Understanding yourself in a way where you can grow rapidly and make the most of who you are is so important for all the different roles you have in life. CliftonStrengths is a language, a relationship shorthand if you like, that allows you to avoid assumptions and misunderstandings about others. It allows your team members to get to what is important rather than staying stuck in trying to understand where another person is comi...ng from. We are not islands, and when we understand other people's 'operating manuals' our ability to work well together increases greatly. In fact the Gallup organisation found that teams who focus on their strengths every day have a 12.5% greater productivity. I have found building strengths based teams within organisations to be the most effective foundational activity to impact culture change within the organisation.
25.01.2022 Often when I work with clients, they discover their strengths and start to understand how they work. But it's not enough. So, what I'm doing is building a course that helps them deep-dive into the very essence of each one of their strengths.
24.01.2022 I'm a bit of a last-minute' .com girl'. So I wait until the last minute before I get in the car to go away to pack. I've gotten it down to a less than 10-minute pack. ... I have been known to overpack it's just in case I forget something. As soon as I'm packed I jump in the car and go. I know this is one of the quirks of my Adaptability strength so I've learned to go with it rather than fight it. I have used my Strategic strength to build a strategy that allows me to do this in an effective way. How do you pack to go away?
23.01.2022 Are you a list writer? Have you ever noticed how you manage them compared to say someone else's lists? Depending on your strengths, you may have a dynamic list. You may have a list that needs to be completed every day. You may have a list of issues that need fixing. They're all different. I've just found this really fascinating to explore.
23.01.2022 One of my top strengths is ideation and I love seeing how people use their ideas to create something. A business that is smashing it out of the park is Little Peach + Pip, I have tagged them in here. Little Peach + Pip is a great business that has come from the creativity of Jess Clucas, who has grown this from a home-based business into something quite spectacular. ... Check out her page. Little Peach + pip
20.01.2022 One of the books I have read recently is Originals by Adam Grant. In it he talks about False Positives and False Negatives when it comes to launching an idea. Simply put a False Positive comes about when an idea sounds great, lots of people back it but it fizzles and doesn’t work. On the other hand a False Negative is an idea that no one thinks will work but it ends up being a runaway success, such as the sitcom Seinfeld. ... The trick with your own ideas is discovering which camp they lie in and be willing to either walk away if it is a false positive or back yourself if it is a false negative. See more
20.01.2022 Well it's been a year since I went into the business full time, it was just before COVID hit Australia. With all the anxiety that that created to begin with, I am so grateful for my clients and the year that I had, in getting my first year underneath my belt, despite COVID.
19.01.2022 Sue Montgomery and I are doing a collaboration called Culture Dynamics. This collaboration with Sue means we bring the best of what each other does and combine it to create something new. So for me, it's doing the work with strengths and identifying people's strengths, and then Sue builds on the clients strengths with her expertise she has gained from coaching clients all over the world in leadership coaching.
18.01.2022 Recently, I was reading a LinkedIn post where the author was talking about levels of commitment and the difference between a 99% commitment and a 100%. When we're 99% committed, that's the hardest place to be because we'll always look for that 1% where we can just 'bug out' and not have to commit. And then that 1% becomes 2%, becomes 3% - it keeps growing. ... But when we're 100% committed, the decision is made, there is no wriggle room. So it's not that hard to do compared to when we only 99% committed.
18.01.2022 Goals! Are you someone who makes them and sees them through or are you a little bit like me.
16.01.2022 This quote speaks to how unique we are. If you understand that there is only one of you on this planet, and that you are the only person that can do the things that you can do in the way that you do them, you need to bring that and give that back to humanity as it is your responsibility.
14.01.2022 It's all about Outdoor Pursuits. I love having another thing that happens on the side, that makes life exciting. Outdoor Pursuits is that very thing for me. ... Dave and I love being outdoors and in the big wide-open spaces, and we also love quality equipment. Bringing these two things together has started an exciting new venture for us. So Outdoor Pursuits is our business that we have created to bring those things together.
13.01.2022 The local council has their elections coming up on December 4, I am a proud member of the @hastingsfirst group ticket, along with Nik James Lipovac, Kerry Fox, Justin Hardie and Michael Clarke. I have been fortunate enough to live in the Port Macquarie Hastings area for over 30 years now. (So almost a local). So why run for council? ... This area is going through rapid change, and we need to make sure that everybody is included and considered in that change. It’s important that everyone who lives in the various towns and villages that make up this area gets to benefit from the wonderful things this area has to offer and is considered in the rapid change the area is undergoing. We need to be fair. Listening to our community is very important to the team. Its also important that the group of councillors that are elected work as a team. Robust discussions are necessary, but need to be held with the best interest of the community as the underlying driver, not personal or political interest. Its something that strongly plays into the 'Strengths' work that I do.
13.01.2022 How much of your daily work requires you to come up with ideas? If you are in a position of leadership or involved in change management then being able to ideate is part of your job. We often feel guilty stopping and just thinking. ... Our society values action and movement. If you can’t be seen doing something, then you mustn’t be doing anything. Thinking and creating new ideas is a high demand activity, its not valued due to people not being able to see inside your brain. Don’t feel guilty about taking time to create new ideas.
12.01.2022 Have you ever tried to implement an idea? You come up with the idea and it is perfect in your head. Of course it is going to work! Of course everyone will love it.! Then reality hits as you try to implement it. One of the hardest lessons I have had to learn is the importance of understanding the people you are ‘inflicting’ your ideas on. ... If the idea doesn’t fit the people, no matter how good it is, it won’t work. Taking time to understand how people work, how they handle change and what they will embrace is important leg work to do before you launch your idea.
12.01.2022 "Understand, you are one of a kind." "Your character traits are a kind of chemical mix that will never be repeated in history. There are ideas unique to you, a specific rhythm and a perspective that are your strengths, not your weaknesses. ... You must not be afraid of your weakness," Robert Greene.
10.01.2022 Here's 3 ideas to help you in 2021 if you're going back to a job that you're not in love with. First idea is to think towards the end of the year and decide 'now' whether you wish to still be in that job at the end of this year. Second, is to then reverse engineer, how it is that you're going to, if it is that you're going to move out of this job...what you're going to do to help you do that? ... ...the third one is what can you start learning, booking in, training in, doing a short course in, making new connections to help the process to change out of the job that you're not liking into one that you love.
10.01.2022 You could say I’m passionate about people playing to their Strengths, but what does it really mean to ‘play to your strengths’? Click on the video below to find out more!
10.01.2022 I'd love to do a big shout out to Bron and Co! Being an absolute newbie to the marketing space, these guys have walked beside me and been so patient and understanding in showing me how to do this well. I started out with a goal in 2020 of having an integrated social media platform and this has only come into being because of the expertise and guideance these guys bring. Thanks team Bron & CO!
09.01.2022 The habit of stopping, reflecting, pausing, and taking time to look back over a day is a really good habit to form. And the questions I'd love to see people ask themselves is, ""Did I play to my strengths today or do I feel drained"" and to work out why? Write it down and let me know how you go.
09.01.2022 Its Christmas tomorrow and if you are the one responsible for hosting a big Christmas gathering can I encourage you to do it in a way that plays to your strengths and doesn't drain you. There are no hard and fast rules on how you do the family and friends gathering at Christmas. If I was to pull out one rule it would be that everyone enjoys themselves, including you! If you have kids let their memories of you at Christmas be of you having fun, not of you being stressed. They... will remember that way more than what they ate or whether the table decorations co-ordinated perfectly. Now if decorating and the feast for a King is your thing and you have the strengths to pull it off, go your hardest, because you will have fun doing it. Let's end this year celebrating Jesus' birthday with love, gratitude and whole lot of fun with those we love. How are you going to use your strengths for Christmas?
08.01.2022 Learning about your Strengths is really about learning a new shared language. It's a language that can become like relationship shorthand that helps understand one another in a deeper way. When teams have this language they are able to work together at a whole new level and achieve far more. It is important to define key words. For instance the difference between a TALENT and a STRENGTH. A TALENT is a natural way of thinking, feeling, or behaving. ... To turn a TALENT into a STRENGTH we add knowledge, skills, experience and awareness. We become intentional and grow in our area of TALENT. We also need to have awareness around how that TALENT is impacting others and whether it has been effective or not. If we add all these ingredients successfully then we can say we have turned our TALENT into a STRENGTH.
08.01.2022 Merry Christmas!!! Enjoy the gift of your loved ones today.
08.01.2022 Here's a quick quiz for you. When you get a new computer do you stick with the stock standard browser like Internet Explorer or do you change them? Research has shown that if you change them you are more likely to engage in original thought and seek to initiate change.
06.01.2022 I grew up in the Kurrajong area, outside of Sydney which was a great place to grow up. I went to a two-teacher school that had two goats, two dogs, and two cats. The two dogs, Sox and Boots used to hang out in the classroom unless the School inspector was coming and then we had to pretend they were never at the school. It was the best place to learn and grow-up, which probably led me into being a primary school teacher and wanting to make learning always really fun. ... I never thought back then that it was possible to do what I am doing now. Having been in education for 30-odd years, (some say institutionalised), has allowed me to learn about people and what makes them tick, leadership, building teams, organisational structure and culture which led me to working in schools around Australia and many other organisations who want to know more about leveraging the 'human' side of their business. What is your story - where have you come from and where has it led you?
06.01.2022 I often have too many things going on in my mind at once and the best piece of advice, it's so simple, but it is just do one thing at a time. I find myself walking around reminding myself of that...and I just love that you can get so much more done by doing one thing at a time. How do you go with taming everything going on in your mind?
05.01.2022 Through the work I do with organisations and individuals, I get to meet amazing people. There are times when I have to remind myself this is now what I get to call 'work'. I am incredibly humbled and grateful of the trust that my clients have in me by having conversations about who they are and how they are at their best. ... I am regularly in awe of them and always learn something new. Thank you each and every client for giving me this privilege. I have been incredibly enriched by knowing and working with you. What do you love about your customers or clients?
03.01.2022 I have loved collaborating with Sue Montgomery from Coaching Professionals. Sue is a highly experienced professional coach who has impacted people throughout Australia and around the world.
02.01.2022 The goal I have for this year is to design a course around strengths, as well as some products to work in with this. The reason why I've chosen to do a course is to offer clients the opportunity to explore their Strengths in a deeper and more impacting way. It will be a deep dive into what matters so my clients can achieve their goals without fluffling around the edges. ... It will be about being you at your best and learning how to leverage that in any situation.
01.01.2022 Over recent years I have become aware of the choice we are given each morning we wake up. The choice is this....how will you approach each day? For me, I recite a bible verse that says... 'This is the day that the Lord has made, I will be glad and rejoice in it.' This reminds me of the absolute privilege it is to be alive and be given a day in which to live. The second part reminds me of the choice I can make no matter what may occur within that day. It's about gratitude. Hope this encourages you today.
01.01.2022 When I was doing my training in Strengths I learnt that a person knows themselves better than anyone else. We are often told who we are by others, we hear ourselves being described by others and we can end up believing that is who we are. However what we are hearing is someone else's experience of us. This experience is then put through that person's filters and biases to come up with their version of who you are. We have to be careful of what we take on board when we listen to others and make sure we don't squash down who we truly are. When we discover our Strengths by doing the CliftonStrengths assessment we get a language around who we are and why we do things that is not biased and is based on what you know about yourself....and we know ourselves best.
