25.01.2022 Trump doesn't want to go:

25.01.2022 If we don't believe in gods and goddesses, where does that leave us? Carl Sagan answered: "On our own, being responsible rather than hoping for someone to come along and save us from ourselves, so we don't have to make our best effort to save ourselves." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML4kiFCKZGo&t=196s

23.01.2022 It's becoming a stampede to return medals:

23.01.2022 The likely next Supreme Court Judge of the USA That you will always keep in mind that your legal career is but a means to an end, and as Father Jenkins told you this morning, that end is building the kingdom of God,

23.01.2022 A great absurdity:

23.01.2022 http:// "The basis for family relations is marriage, it says. The mother is a woman, the father is a man. It also says Hungary protects children’s right to the gender identity they were born with, using language consistent with a government campaign to outlaw transgender identities. //

21.01.2022 "New South Wales School Scripture has gone online in a bid to have ready-made lessons on hand during this rapidly-changing COVID environment. Coronavirus has already caused a significant drop in the number of Special Religious Education (SRE) teachers from all faith communities. Tight health restrictions prevent SRE teachers with any COVID-like symptoms from teaching, and many older teachers have dropped out, fearing the risk of personal infection."

20.01.2022 If a person's religion teaches them that VAD is wrong, they are free not to participate in it. They have that option. But they should not have the ability to dictate the value choices of people of other faiths.

17.01.2022 The more religious, the more ridiculous

17.01.2022 Contagious stupidity?

16.01.2022 The decline of religion, military chaplains and the need for alternatives in the Australian defence force:

14.01.2022 Two weeks ago, Adrew Barr told the National Secular Lobby he was proud of his government’s pro-secular achievements, including stopping the school chaplains program. Now, one of his candidates wants chaplains back. Is @AustralianLabor pro-secular?https://t.co/bC1h2BdTm3

13.01.2022 Major spoiler alert.

12.01.2022 Not often that one organisation gets two mentions of misdemeanours in one week:

04.01.2022 Councillors and residents of minority faiths or non-religious beliefs are being forced to observe Christian-only prayers as part of official meetings at Shoalha...ven City Council after a recent spat broke out on the issue. In September, Cr Kaye Gartner read a Buddhist prayer for her scheduled recitation at the opening of the council meeting. As the council’s rules didn’t stipulate that it had to be a particular kind of prayer, she chose a Buddhist prayer. But some Christian councillors moved swiftly to have the rules governing meetings changed to require that the opening prayer be specifically Christian in nature. The council voted eight to five to insert the word ‘Christian’ into ‘opening prayer’. One Christian councillor warned that he would walk out of the meeting if prayers of other religions were recited. The brazen attack on minority faiths sparked outrage, with Cr Annette Alldrick arguing that the council should reflect the diversity of beliefs in the Shoalhaven shire, which takes in Nowra on the New South Wales south coast. "Some members of council and members of the community are ...from lots of different religions other than Christian religions. We have a large number of religions represented in our community," she said. Peter Monk, president of the National Secular Lobby, said the decision to enforce Christian rituals was out of touch with community expectations and was not representative of the people. With the Morrison government looking to push ahead with its Religious Discirmination Bill, one would think that it’s not a good look for councils across Australia, including Brisbane City Council, Redland City Council, Hornsby Shire Council and Shoalhaven, to be insisting that only Christian prayers can be recited to open their meetings, he says. "Australia is not a theocracy. We do not have a Christian government. It is concerning that some councils cannot and will not embrace the diversity of their populaces. Modern Australian society comprises people of many faiths and of no religious beliefs. It’s time that all of our elected institutions better represented this diversity instead of privileging Christian rituals. As part of our #SecularGovernment campaign, we're building a list of the parliaments and councils that enforce the recital of prayers as part of their official government business. Check out the updated list here: www.nsl.org.au/secular-issues/prayers-in-parliament/ #EndReligiousPrivilege #SecularGovernment
