14.01.2022 It is with great sadness that i must announce that Atherton RSL will not be open for ANZAC Day, this is due to the current 4 square metre social distancing rule from the government and the COVIDD 19 panic. I must also reiterate there will be no Dawn service on ANZAC Day.

08.01.2022 The announced surrender of Imperial Japan on 15 August 1945 sparked spontaneous celebrations in cities and towns around Australia. Some servicemen and servicew...omen were fortunate to join the public in these celebrations, but the majority of those serving marked the occasion in far-flung places. These diverse settings and disparate circumstances surrounding their service shaped how they responded to the historic announcement. The following accounts from records held at the Australian War Memorial reveal how servicemen and servicewomen reacted to Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day. Read their recollections here: http://ow.ly/pYrb50AX9Ij You can also visit our hub-page to learn more about the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific and end of the Second World War: https://www.awm.gov.au/vpday75 #VPDay75 Image: A crowd of civilians and servicemen celebrate VP Day on the streets of Brisbane, 15 August 1945. 07.01.2022 For actions performed on this day in 2010 Corporal Daniel Keighran was awarded the Victoria Cross. During an ambush by a large Taliban force at Derapet, in Afgh...anistan’s Tangi Valley, Corporal Keighran deliberately and repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to draw attention away from a mortally wounded comrade Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney. Throughout the long action his bravery assisted the patrol to return accurate fire and to successfully withdraw without further casualties. Corporal Keighran’s Victoria Cross, on loan to the Memorial, is on display in the Hall of Valour. Learn more: http://ow.ly/yuti50B6S1D Photo: P10927.001

05.01.2022 Meet Atherton RSL!! My name is Sean Carroll and I am the current President. I joined the British Army in 1991 and served until 2015. I Initially joined the Royal Corps of Transport (RCT aka Trogs) until amalgamation in 1993 when we became the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC). I managed to complete tours in Germany, America, Canada, Bosnia twice and Northern Ireland.... After a brief career break i rejoined the Army, serving in the Military Provost Guard Service for a further ten years. After finally admitting to myself that i was too old (ably assisted by my son) I retired and came to Australia, where the good members of Atherton RSL found me one ANZAC day, and full of liquid, I signed up! Four short years later, here I am! I have my gorgeous wife and two beautiful kids keeping me in line. Please feel free to contact the sub branch, we have a dedicated Well-being officer, a new club building we are endeavouring to open, and we plan to be a fixture in the community for many years to come!!

03.01.2022 Tasting pack has arrived from Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy!!! Australian Warfighters Coffee is an all Australian Veteran Owned and run coffee service, it ‘s the amalgamation of 2 Veterans of different operational experiences who have come together to provide quality coffee to our Veterans and first responders. The reason they started this coffee line is to raise awareness of PTSD, depression, anxiety from service life and from the sales of their Coffee they give back to... the veteran community. Every time a bag of coffee or accessory is sold they give over 90% of the proceeds back to organisations that have partnered up with them. They also pay for training courses for veterans or family members in the art of barista work. Once their coffee is widespread, they will assist a Veteran start up his own coffee van. If this goes well, they can help more veterans create their own coffee van businesses. For us in the Tablelands, that means that Young Veterans Cairns get a share to help combat PTSD and other conditions! Lets get behind them and buy up big!!!
