22.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Just a note ... the Access Place is in need of household items to sell, so if you are cleaning out your cupboards any time soon please send your unwanted 'treasures' our way. Also any donations of unperishable food items are always greatly appreciated. Thank you!

21.01.2022 Thank you to all our customers and the generous donors to the Treasures Op Shop and food pantry! Our stocks are currently a little depleted so if you are cleaning out any suitable household items at home, (no furniture due to lack of space), please do consider dropping those items off to us here at the Access Place - situated opposite McDonalds, Main Street, Atherton. The donations help us to help the local community (who are in need) with food parcels, baby bundles, home starter packs, school packs, toiletry packs etc. We are open Monday to Friday, between 9:30am to 2.00pm, and we look forward to seeing you there!

20.01.2022 When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when t...he nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Melbourne. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet. Cranky Old Man What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see? What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me? A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise, Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes? Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply. When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!' Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do. And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe? Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will, With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. Donna and Judy came in and helped download patterns today, so we'll be ready on this Wednesday, 9:30 -11:00. We're also making cooling neckties for the fireies and bags for the local hospital.

Be Connected is bought to you by the Australian Government, free to older Australians to get online starting from basic skills using your tablet, iPad, phone and computer don't need to be tech savvy we teach you. Free computer with internet access, Free Wi-Fi and free printer available. Even free tea and coffee, so come along to 110a Main St Atherton opposite MacDonalds on Friday 10th January 2020 at 10am for an information morning, contact Wayne on 0468 794 110 for more information and to book your place as there are only a limit amount of spots.

05.01.2022 I had spent an hour in the bank with my dad, as he had to transfer some money. I couldn't resist myself & asked... ''Dad, why don't we activate your internet ba...nking?'' ''Why would I do that?'' He asked... ''Well, then you wont have to spend an hour here for things like transfer. You can even do your shopping online. Everything will be so easy!'' I was so excited about initiating him into the world of Net banking. He asked ''If I do that, I wont have to step out of the house? ''Yes, yes''! I said. I told him how even grocery can be delivered at door now and how amazon delivers everything! His answer left me tongue-tied. He said ''Since I entered this bank today, I have met four of my friends, I have chatted a while with the staff who know me very well by now. You know I am alone...this is the company that I need. I like to get ready and come to the bank. I have enough time, it is the physical touch that I crave. Two years back I got sick, The store owner from whom I buy fruits, came to see me and sat by my bedside and cried. When your Mom fell down few days back while on her morning walk. Our local grocer saw her and immediately got his car to rush her home as he knows where I live. Would I have that 'human' touch if everything became online? Why would I want everything delivered to me and force me to interact with just my computer? I like to know the person that I'm dealing with and not just the 'seller'.
