01.01.2022 Originally starting out as a group of guys catching up on a monthly basis at His Boy Elroy in the name of Men's Mental Health, The Barstool Brothers has now grown to a group of over 600 people running over 10 events per month at different venues around the Illawarra. Events like golf days, trivia night, morning walks, lawn bowls and family BBQ beach days (with more events in the pipeline) But it's not all fun and games, under all the good stuff is the underlying idea of build...ing authentic relationships, supporting others through their own personal mental health journeys and being there for each other - whatever the situation! Whilst the secret recipe of the Barstool Brothers success is informal and light hearted activities helping build strong relationships amongst the community, the serious nature of the challenges faced need a sound understanding and education based support. Within the Illawarra, there is no better organisation to assist and provide this than Dan Hunt and his team at Mental Health Movement Dan and his team specialise in providing training to organisations wanting better support for their people and create a culture where it is ok to not be okay and it's ok to ask for help. MHM will be the Education and Training provider for Barstool Brothers, with Barstool Brothers joining the MHM fold as a Community Partner. MHM will provide training to the staff at His Boy Elroy, The Illawarra and the Barstool Brothers Steering Committee, to help better equip these teams in handling situations they may be faced. Along with this training in mental health response MHM is also providing the members of Barstool Brothers access to their MHM online resources. This collection of online training courses specifically designed to help members improve mental health management and build personal resilience. It is great to see two local organisations coming together to drive the Mental Health Movement forward and we look forward to further developing the relationship into the future to benefit the community.
