22.01.2022 Very Happy Birthday - Kate Ingham one of our sponsored riders , we are sooooo proud of you

21.01.2022 So often I see a partnership of horse and rider struggling because: (a) the horse is confused and doesn't understand what is required. So offers a behaviour tha...t is not required or wanted. (b) The rider can misunderstand this due to been told in the past make the horse respond he HAS to respect you etc etc. I see riders and horses frustrated, despondent and upset I have also been in that place of not knowing what I know now. The horse will never respect you if it is forced, especially when he is mentally confused or physically compromised. His whole demeanour will tell a story. I so want to help change that frustration into joy for both parties. The Starting Steps program encompasses in hand work to build a clear understanding of balancing the mind and body of the horse, by staying close to the horse to notice the detail and help direct the body into balance. Then moving to lunging and allowing the horse to feel its newfound balance out on the lunge. Carried into ridden under saddle with the audio lessons where you start to feel the balance and the work you have done on the ground been carried into your feel sense and awareness. I will be with you, speaking to you in the audio lesson, helping you notice and become aware of the balance in both you and your horse. Each week there is a component of each along with grounding yourself and noticing the emotional side of both you and your horse. Over the weeks the horses understanding turns into confidence and harmony with you. The horse recognize you as the guardian who they want to be with. For more info

21.01.2022 How much weight can a horse carry? In my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount. They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken... bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can't carry it anymore. They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations. They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs. If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all. Author unknown

16.01.2022 You know how they call certain things "inconvenient truths?" I hesitate to even say this, because it will make some people angry and defensive, but I think it i...s worth saying, because those who want badly enough to fix it can actually do so--(Not so true for those with illness or injury) There are lots and lots of riders who ride scared. Every time they climb on, they are tight, apprehensive, nervous--- One of the best ways to fix this is to be a fit, tough athlete. Many riders, especially older riders, are anything but. They CAN get fitter and tougher, but for 101 reasons and excuses, most won't. So, to lessen your fear, get tougher. Do what they make you do in the Army, on sports teams, which is to do stuff that is hard to do, which is why you don't like it in the first place.Heck, pick up a broom, haul water buckets, kill two birds with one stone by being useful at the barn. Or not, but if you won't, you are apt to stay scared, because being weak and unfit is not the ideal state for someone who rides horses. "Unfit athlete" is an oxymoron. Aren't riders athletes? Is this too blunt? Maybe, but I think it is true.

16.01.2022 Equestrian In The Park is coming up on the 28 November. Here is a flashback to 2018 when the week before I got a Wildcard entry on my little pony Tia. It was ...a whirlwind week. We were drawn to ride 3rd. The 2 horses before me were both eliminated. My whole family was on the sidelines. My Pop was sick from worry as he had walked the course with me the day before and thought it was impossible for Tia and I to get around. He hadn’t slept all night. We finished 13th in a giant field of elite athletes. I was the proudest person there. 09.01.2022 THINGS OUR STABLES CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT LEAF BLOWER @stihl @stihlgb Now this is certainly a luxury......But one of my absolute faves!... I have grown up with leaf blowers on our properties. It really does do the most outstanding around your property, one that no broom could do.....and takes quarter of the time and effort, meaning you have enough energy for all those little jobs to keep the place looking A-OK! My husband did a lot of research beforehand and Stihl seems to be the brand that stands the test of time and what people generally trusted. I was desperate for a battery operated one, but the money for the best one (apparently the only one worth having an equestrian yard) didn't seem worth it, when a petrol one is quarter of the price and has a stronger blow!

03.01.2022 Does anyone else experience a drop in concentration as their rides go on? Or their horse starts to misbehave or shy for no apparent reason as you get further i...nto the ride? Over the years I definitely have! This has been one of my biggest training challenges, both Rondo & I being able to maintain our concentration for a whole ride! I’d love to know how this shows up for you & your horse in your training? What does your horse do (or not do!) when you lose your concentration? For me, our ride would go pretty good for the first 15 to 20 minutes. I’d be focused, riding in the moment, clear & relaxed & Rondo would generally be with me. I know when I'm concentrating because in this focused state my eyes rarely want to look up & around the arena, I don’t have any negative thoughts, like ‘will she shy in the scary corner?’ or ‘Am I training correctly’ & I feel confident. Then at about the 20 minute mark my brain would start to take over. I stopped riding what I feel & instead I notice I want to look around everywhere & get distracted easily. And I have negative thoughts popping into my head. Then, of course Rondo doesn’t stay with me, her mind also wonders, finding things to shy at or be distracted by. Why should she stay focused when I can’t?!!! Don’t get me wrong, I’m still not perfect at maintaining my focus & concentration throughout a whole ride, however I have improved so much over the last few years & I’m always trying to find ways to strengthen my mental focus, it’s a never ending journey! Some of the things I have done to help me extend my concentration time in the saddle are: 1. Meditate daily & before a ride, even if it is only 30 seconds, it helps put me in a focused, relaxed state. 2. Use the ‘Look up’ technique, which I teach in my online course & in phone coaching sessions, this helps the brain to focus & block out distractions. 3. Breathing exercises. 4. Have lots of small walk breaks. This also helps the horse by not causing them as much muscle fatigue, therefore when they are not uncomfortable they will be able to concentrate for longer. 5. Shorten my rides. Instead of pushing through when I know I’ve hit the max of my focus period (especially if Rondo has lost concentration & is showing it by shying etc), I would only ride for another 3 to 5 minutes & then get off. Slowly aiming to extend my rides out over a few weeks. Quality over quantity! There is no point training bad work! I think the biggest thing that has helped me is to remember to be kind to myself! Which, we all know is easier said than done! Just because you lose concentration towards the end of your ride & maybe your horse starts to shy or not work as well, that doesn’t make it a bad training session. We are on a journey & as long as you take the feedback (for example, notice that you or your horse has lost concentration) & then find exercises to help you maintain your focus for longer, then you will always be improving. It may feel like slow progress, but when you look back in a few months’ time you will see the growth! Be patient! With the right tools & mindset you can achieve anything!
