13.01.2022 Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work Hard - Tim Notke With most sports back up and playing again, how does your training look today?

10.01.2022 Need an innovative way to assess your Hamstring Strength? Hamstring Strength is important, we all know that. But, how can you test it as well as get a measurement to record?... Nordics are great to assess how well you can eccentrically control a falling movement, but without a Vald Performance NordBord, then you have no measurement. You could measure the angle that you achieve in this movement, but is the workload even, or is one leg doing more work? Hamstring Bridges are great for testing strength using reps or timed holds, but how much pressure can you apply? How do you record a result that isn't a rep, an angle or a timed duration? A set of digital scales can help solve this problem. You will need a training partner to help in recording this unless you have a tripod for your phone. First, set yourself up as you would for a Single Leg Hamstring Bridge movement. A Double Leg Bridge can be recorded, but it is difficult to see which leg is doing the work. Leaving your hips on the ground, let the scales measure the weight of your leg at rest. Once you record this number, have the athlete pull their heel into the platform of the scales. Leaving the hips on the ground enables them to be stable when they complete this movement. Hips off the ground could also indicate a hip stability / control issue if there are discrepancies between limbs. You can record measurements at full extension (outer range) or with a knee bend (inner range). Hold each contraction of movement for around 10-sec to ensure that you can apply the maximum pressure to the platform. You should record this on your phone (even if you have a training partner helping) to make sure you can capture all the numbers that will be recorded - they will move quickly. As a testing element, you want to record the highest number that is achieved on each limb. The aim is to be able to record the same result on each limb. If you can't, make sure they are as close as possible.

02.01.2022 Acceleration Pointers for Field-based Sports Athletes. 1. Forward (Positive) Lean (45 degrees) 2. Positive Shin Angle - knee over toe. 3. Triple Extension (ankle, knee and hip) of the back leg.... Coaching the athlete to 'push the ground away' applying force down and back into the ground. This push (while longer in ground contact time) creates greater acceleration helping to produce greater top speed. With sport coming back soon you have an opportunity to build your on-field speed by using the remaining few weeks until your sport starts building and refining your running technique. Start the 2020 playing season fast and stay ahead of your opposition. www.athleteengineers.com.au
