25.01.2022 Knowing from an early age what techniques a junior athlete uses is imperative for helping guide movement to both 1: continue improving on their strengths & 2: reduce the deficit for their weaknesses. Vertical Power & Reactive Strength tests like these 3 videos help up gather a picture of whether someone can utilise their natural springboard, and help identify links in their power chain letting them down so we can improve jump heights on all respective tests. After ident...ifying which techniques an individual uses, we can put together a program which both concurrently develops their physical literacy in addition to providing specific attention to their short-comings and strengths. 14.01.2022 A few weeks ago one of my junior athletes was having some difficulty skipping. This happened to be a relatively young athlete, but was not the first time I’d witness someone struggle with keeping rhythm and coordinating the movement. As I’ve seen youth, teenagers, young men and know of some adults who can’t hold a constant skip. . So we wanted to make something to help facilitate the learning curve, and it has just so happened to coincide with everything else going on. . It’...s a massive space saver, a great way to keep your tendons and lower shank conditioned, advance your coordination skills, and improve your overall lower limb stiffness.. . It’s made up of 6 stages, 1 being the fundamentals all the way up to performing moving running mechanic drills. If you’d like a copy with all the linked playlists, send us a DM and we’ll flick it onto you via email. . Enjoy progressing your skipping skills whilst in ISO See more
11.01.2022 Overwhelmed . Every time school starts back for the term, I always hear outrageous claims from junior athletes of how their study patterns/habits are going to change; I’m going to get my assignment done the night I get it. It sounds like a New years resolution disaster. . The overwhelming majority of youth athletes struggle with balancing all areas of their life. However when it comes to assisting junior athletes in how to manage their time better, you generally get the y...ou need to manage your time better answer. . As a parent, have you considered the impact which you could make in helping your child establish a healthy relationship with time management practices? Such simple things as: How to use a calendar To do lists Efficiently using reminders (instead of 16 alarms) Prioritising assignments/homework? Schedule out time for play/socialising/homework? . The skills which elite athletes are being required to know automatically, are some that most adults still can’t grasp. . If you’re a junior athlete struggling with managing your time, reach out to your parent, reach out to your schools guidance counsellor, reach out to your year advisor, just don’t feel the weight of the overwhelming pressure to thrive, without the necessary tools. 10.01.2022 "My child already does too much". . One of the main concerns with parents, is that their child is already doing a lot of sport. . I've had some kids come in with extremely sore knees/shins/backs, which have stemmed from too much sport, leading to overuse injuries from their bodies no longer being able to tolerate the demand.... . Generally, the parents think that adding more training stimulus (no matter the type), it will only make it worse. . However for parents it's always important to consider why your child is getting injured, or constantly sore. In addition to how you can assist in stopping it. . If they're already injured from too much sport, would you say by playing more sport it will help? Or perhaps the current sport they’re playing isn't strengthening them correctly, so why not try an alternative sport to help strengthen them? Both of these approaches, fall under the "more is better" approach. . If your child falls under this banner, I would state this: Strength and conditioning is not a magic pill, but for nearly all juniors, having an increase level of strength, improved coordination, and access to a coach who is able to pick up on movement deficiencies and correct them; it will go a long way in ensuring you raise the threshold of what your child can tolerate in their sport/s. 06.01.2022 ANKLE REHAB A little closer look into end stage ankle rehab. @robbie.emel02 had a very common occurrence in basketball, where he rolled his ankle once, thought it was good to go after walking it off, then bam! Went again for the 2nd time in as many weeks. ... Following that, we’ve worked on regaining full movement in his ankle, strengthening it in all angles, improving his overall strength, and now having a heavier focus on integrating back in complex or explosive movements. Looking forward to seeing him back on the court soon
