24.01.2022 Athletics North Queensland will be holding an Online Meet Manager Course on February 13th and 14th, 2021. Meet Manager is an entries and results software program used to record results from an event. It is designed to help organisers prepare and manage athletics competitions more effectively. It will provide particpants with information on the aspects of running athletics meetings, raise their awareness of good practice and assist them with the developme...nt of relevant skills and strategies. This course will cover such things as how to set up your database, preparation, seeding and event day operations. This system saves the user from having to record the results manually. This is a great opportunity for any club, school or individual who is wishing to understand and learn how to use this system. 21.01.2022 & Meet Sharie Rainbow, a Junior long and triple jumper from Normanton. Sharie shares why she loves athletics, her favourite athletes and what keeps her motivated training up in Normanton.... Age: 13 Event: Long & Triple Jump Personal Best: 4.13m Long Jump (Aug 2019) 8.53m Triple Jump (July 2019) Coach/s: Jake Daniels, Tracy Lord, Rick McMillan Club: Normanton Karumba Athletics Club When did you start athletics? I started in Prep at school in 2012 and then joined to my local club in Normanton when it started up in 2018. What is your favourite event and why? Long Jump is my favourite event, because I usually tend to do very well in it and have twice gone to the state championships for school. Triple Jump is remarkably close behind as I only just started trying it out last year and I have already surprised myself with what I can do in it. Basically, I just like jumping into the sand. Who is your all-time favourite athlete in track and field? Hmm This is a tough one because for us out here we do not really hear about to many. One of them would have to be Cathy Freeman. I look up to her as a fellow female indigenous athlete, and hope to eventually make it to the Olympics myself, probably not in sprints or 400m though, my cousin kicks my butt in those. 17.01.2022 ANQ is proud to be the first official Athletics Competition to include the new Athletics Australia Para Competition Amendments. The championships attracted several Multi Class athletes who competed in multiple events across the three days. The new changes included; New class for Athletes with Down Syndrome - TF21: This change aligns with Sports Inclusion Australia by separating from the Intellectual impairment group of F/T20. This allows athletes with the T/F21 classification... to compete against an equitable baseline score and lighter weights for throws. Congratulations to Ethan and Andre Rivett on being the very first! Additionally, the NQ crowd witnessed the very first competitive athlete in the event of Race Running. 08.01.2022 ' 20 . Friday 30th October will mark the end of an era for Athletics North Queensland, when a stalwart of the organisation, Robyn Potts retires. It is with obvious sadness we make this announcement, but with complete adoration for the service Robyn has given the sport and Athletics North Queensland.... Robyn started with Athletics North Queensland as a volunteer in 1998 during the foundation years of the establishment of the association. At that time, she was heavily involved in her children’s chosen sports of Athletics and Hockey. Like most volunteers in our sport, Robyn took on many different roles to assist to run the sport, including being President of Blue Water Athletics for 10 Years. Robyn started paid employment with ANQ in 2005. Since then she has taken on a range of roles in the office based around club administration, membership and her passionate portfolio of events. She was the first person in the office to start transferring from all paper records to more electronic setups, and has been an asset in progressing grass root clubs to easier technology systems. Though Robyn was a paid staff member, she still heavily volunteered her time to the association and clubs to help grow the sport. This allowed her to build strong bonds with most people in the athletics community that still to this day is strong. Robyn was awarded Life Membership of Athletics North Queensland in 2012. Her unbelievable dedication and work ethic in the office will be sorely missed. Her work has assured our success into the next century. Athletics North Queensland wishes Robyn all the best in your retirement years and looks forward to working with her as a volunteer official for many years to come. --- Please leave a comment of well wishes and gratitude below and we will add this to a special gift for Robyn.
