23.01.2022 Important information about the impact of air quality on Round 10. Please read.

22.01.2022 Given that we are now confined to training alone, our distance coach James has proposed the following sessions for this week. Tuesday: 7 mins, 6 mins, 5 mins, 4 mins, 3 mins, 1 min with 1 min recovery between each rep. Thursday: Fartlek session. Set yourself at least 10 reps ie running to the next tree or up a hill or to the next parked car or until you see someone in a hat. Be as creative as you can. Please share your experiences of training alone and maybe post a photo here on the Facebook page so we can stay connected.

15.01.2022 Advantages of running solo: 1. Makes you mentally strong 2. Can do it whenever we want 3. Gives us time to think through personal issues 4. Can spark creative new ideas... 5. A legitimate excuse to leave the house Anyone care to add to this list? Or tells us your experiences with solo running this week?

15.01.2022 Great to see Samuel and Trevor wearing the Waverley Malvern singlets working together and racing strongly in the 800m at Vic Milers tonight.

Congratulation also to the three top scoring athletes who put their heart and soul into the summer competition scoring over 10,000 points for the season: Christine Bridle, Linda Buttigieg and Samuel Low.

10.01.2022 The sessions for this week are: Training for this week for James' distance group Tuesday 7 April: Hill reps: Find a hill, big or small doesn't matter. Even if it's not uphill all the way that's OK. Find a section that's around 3 minutes. Do the bottom half. Rest for a minute then do the top half. Jog back down to the bottom. Do the whole hill rep bottom to top. Jog back down to half way. Go hard to the bottom, turn around and keep going hard to halfway up. Rest for a minute. ...Go hard to the top and turn around and keep going hard to halfway down. Rest for a minute and jog to the bottom. Repeat. x2 Thursday 9 April: 1 minute on-1 minute off x 10. Count your steps. See if you can get your right leg down around 95 times in each minute. Have fun!

10.01.2022 An Aths Waverley legend, Warren Holst (also known as The Heap or Holsty) has passed away Sunday morning. Warren had been battling an aggressive form of cancer over the past 12 months and sadly is no longer with us. Warren was as tough as they come and it's hard to fathom that he could be brought down. Our thoughts are with his family who are also close to us Lizzy, Mikey, Clare and Anne who have all been involved with Waverley because of Warren. James Atkinson remembers ...when he first started running with Waverley, Warren worked as concrete cutter, played footy on Saturday mornings and then turned up to the AV runs straight afterwards. Warren ran 10K in 30:25, 15K in 47:08 and the half marathon in under 70 minutes. Later, Warren took to the Otway Classic, back in the day when this was one of the biggest running events in Australia with sponsored teams doing battle through the hilly roads through the Otways. Holsty was as strong as an ox and progressed from being a good runner to one of the team captains, amongst the likes of Steve Monneghetti , Mal Norwood, Brad Camp etc. Holsty was just tough. To handle multiple races in a day at that level was only handled well by a few special people like Holsty. Later, he came out of semi-retirement to have a go at something longer - 100K, and soon progressed to being in the National team, and then the fastest in the national team. He knocked out 100km in 7:20 and would always mutter "It's not that hard". Holsty was Fun with a capital F, especially when he hired the Council mini bus and turned up to Waverley to pick us all up for the drive to Ballarat with the bus filled with balloons and wearing his famous glittering bus drivers’ hat. He always had a cheeky grin that said things would be alright. One year we entered a Waverley team in the Oxfam classic which involved 4 of us running together for 100K. Holsty was injured and working, but he promised to come and support us after work if he could. He turned up with 30K to go and ran with us. When Chris hit the wall and we thought it was all over, Holsty got some snakes out of his pocket and plied him with snakes and water and encouragement and managed to get Chris, and the rest of us up and going again to the finish. We definitely couldn't have finished without him there. He would just never give up. As tough as they come. Vale Holsty. We will miss you dearly

07.01.2022 Hooray! Training restrictions are being eased now. The council has returned our keys and we can return to the clubhouse. However, training must be in line with our Covid Safe Plan. Keep your distance, practice good hand hygiene, and do not attend if unwell. Contact details including name, phone number and email must be provided and training groups are limited to 10 people plus the coach. Look forward to seeing you back on the track.

07.01.2022 Last Tuesday night the training group headed to Caulfield Racecourse for an exploration of the track as a training venue. It was a hot night and at times, there were more photo stops than actually running.
