24.01.2022 In a moment of enormous world significance, we don’t want to stay silent. This is everyone’s business and everyone’s problem. A significant proportion of police violence is committed against disabled and neurodivergent people, most particularly disabled and neurodivergent Black, brown and Indigenous people. In Australia, since 2008, more than 40% of Indigenous people who died in custody had cognitive or mental health conditions. [1] This forms only part of the full picture of...Continue reading

Tonight we'll be running the second session of our 3-part workshop - but if you missed part 1, you can still join in, and the recording will be available for another week to all attendees! --... Join us to learn more than you expected about autism, neurodiversity, radical approaches to inclusion, and the complexities and joys of drama/theatre from an autistic perspective. While this one was initially designed for drama teachers and theatremakers, we reckon it's useful for anyone who teaches or runs events involving autistic people (ie anyone who teaches or runs events!) Thanks to Drama Victoria, we're presenting this workshop online, over three short evening sessions, with an option to watch or rewatch later. Bookings open now!

16.01.2022 We’re pretty thrilled about this mention of our upcoming AustenCon talk in The Age! As a form of genre fiction indeed, as work that almost defines a genre Austen's writing offers both comfort and the opportunity to play within established boundaries. Adaptations can stick to the script, but just as often they inject something fresh. Kumar points to the 1999 film version of Mansfield Park, which explored the legacy of slavery in the context of Austen's writing, while this year's Austen Con features a session in which members of Melbourne theatre company A_tistic consider the possibility of reading Mr Collins and Mr Darcy as autistic. Bookings are open now for AustenCon this Saturday 7 November, and the article gives you just a taste of the delights curated by 24 Carrot Productions.

12.01.2022 "One particular workshop stood out from the rest; Performing to Strangers: Reading Neurodivergence in Pride and Prejudice. Quite impressively, the two presenters gave a basic introduction of autism, an insight into the experience of it, and a thoroughly convincing interpretation of the behaviours of the aloof Mr. Darcy and the irritating Mr. Collins as consistent with neurodivergent experience all in the space of 60 minutes! Presented by A_tistic, this conversation succeeded... in both challenging the assumptions and prejudices of the time, as well as those that are still made to this day while remaining conversational, nonjudgmental and funny." - Sue-Anne Hess, Theatrepeople https://www.theatrepeople.com.au/austen-con/ It's not too late for you to catch this and all the other spectacular AustenCon talks, performances, tutorials and capers, from burlesque to fabric history to Bath buns - if you pick up a ticket and become a patron of 24 Carrot Productions, you can access them all until December 7th! https://www.24carrotproductions.com/austen-con

07.01.2022 WORKSHOP CANCELLATION (for now, with intention to reschedule!) We were so looking forward to tomorrow's workshop on neurodiversity in the drama classroom. Sadly, we regret to advise the event has been cancelled as one of our presenters has developed cold symptoms. We're particularly conscious of looking out for immunocompromised and disabled populations who may be at greater risk than we are, so we've decided to err on the side of caution in this instance. It is absolutely our intention to re-schedule at a later date. We apologise for any inconvenience, and really look forward to delving into neurodiversity and drama with you another day!
05.01.2022 It's TONIGHT! Do you have your tickets yet?
05.01.2022 Coming up this Friday - bookings still open! Last time we ran this workshop, the brilliant drama teachers who attended were so engaged and had so many questions that we ran ... significantly overtime. So we've spread this one over the course of a day, which means we can dig deep, explore complexity, and give you the tools and perspectives you need to do right by the autistic students/actors/crew in your world. And you might just discover benefits for everyone else as well.... Book now to avoid disappointment!
04.01.2022 A really exciting opportunity for d/Deaf and disabled artists!
04.01.2022 Our workshop on creating neurodiverse-friendly drama classrooms is tomorrow afternoon - so there's still just a little time to book in!
04.01.2022 Remember - relaxed performances aren't just for autistic people, they have benefits for anyone who'd like more flexibility, more info in advance, or more breathing room at the theatre. A relaxed performance of Bright Star is coming up soon - why not check it out for yourself?
03.01.2022 REFLECTIONS ON SOMETHING PRETTY MAGICAL We had quite a day yesterday, with two simultaneous wonderful events: a workshop with Drama Victoria on creating neurodiverse-friendly classrooms, and a relaxed performance of Pursued By Bear's musical Bright Star at Chapel Off Chapel. What that meant for us in practice was:... - We met drama teachers who really cared about understanding and collaborating with autistic adults to make a better world for autistic students. - We collaborated with a venue management and front of house team, a cast, a crew, and the program management team for a peak Victorian education body, all of whom were eager to embrace principles of neurodiversity, accessibility, and universal design, and who were ready to re-examine their assumptions about How Things Should Be. - In the case of our relaxed performance, we got to see the results firsthand - people who felt more welcome and free in spaces that are often unwelcoming, overwhelming or intimidating; people who got the chance to enjoy art on their own terms. In the case of our workshop, we got to see people eager to help perpetuate that change in their corner of the world. Days like yesterday make us feel really optimistic for the future. And we're ready to keep helping to build that future.
