24.01.2022 When you consider your "fitness", do you give any thought to the four dimensions of being "fit"? I believe the act of physical training is the easiest to navigate. Most trainers believe this but they don't admit it, they worry it will put them out of a job ... BUT... they haven't fully understood the meaning of this and the impact it has on YOU, they have only considered this from a point of the impact this might have on THEM and very superficially - they've just skim...med the surface. So to explain my belief more... Unfortunately that doesn't correlate to being easy to see results in. In fact without the consideration of our mental, emotional and spiritual fitness our results remain hindered. We end up in circles, yoyo-ing results, looking for the next "thing" that has seen amazing results, giving new things a try but still we eventually circle back to feeling frustrated not being where we want to be aesthetically or physically. You could be given the winning playbook for your results, but if your head isn't on right, that is going to be such an uphill battle, time and time again. I invite you to consider... Perhaps you just didn't have the right support for you? What if the barriers weren't on the physical side? Does your mental state or mindset support you and help you? Do your emotions stay stable? Do your energy levels give you the backing you need to run each day as your highest self? When was the last time you checked in with how you're actually feeling and connected with the feeling or the pain? ...If you are not functioning as your highest self, can you function in your mind, in your training, in your relationships with others, as your highest self? A time for reflection... What does fitness or health mean to you? What does it REALLY mean? A

24.01.2022 So here's a fun thing for the family to try..! Note, if you have lovely long legs, or kids find the coordination a bit hard, the getting up part can be difficult. But you can still do the rolling around! Rolls are a great core exercise, just without the explosive quad jump.

19.01.2022 Are you in the driver's seat of your own choices? Or do you feel like you have no power over it? Are you seeing the outcomes you hope for? Or do you feel like your body defies you and is working against you? We want to know...... How to stop cravings; why we get mood swings; how to sleep better; what food is best for us; should I take supplements; why aren't I losing weight... it seems endless! It's just not information you have yet, or maybe other experiences haven't worked. Reflection... Why is it that we look outside to tell us how to be? And surely there is no way of knowing YOUR body and how it responds to the choices you make by looking out there? What you are after comes from within. It's just not as simple as making a choice with no connection to whether that choice serves you well or doesn't. Don't let yourself get away with that... I said to a few of my clients this week going through a program together, to not let themselves get away with answering any questions with "I don't know". 19.01.2022 Is your world a little different now..? ... I started coaching Sasha this week - without being in the pool 6 days a week for hours of swimming this is was a shock to her system, understandably! No fear! "Off-season" coaching is here! ... I was told the swim break is 2 weeks normally, so our Rona situation is certainly a different one . I've got her setup with private coaching , home conditioning, and a food and sleep focus to better her recovery and sleep troubles. The next few months of joint health, shoulder niggle rehab and strength & recovery will mean when she goes back... "insert water and the competition and she will dominate! "Off-season" in full swing.

17.01.2022 Playing with the hip and knee. Less weakness, less pain, less injury More strength, more gains, more results... Banded lateral resistance is definitely a favourite of mine promoting hip and knee stability - really working on external rotation at the hip and proper joint alignment. The band certainly helps the glute and VMO to wake up. Single leg strength is one thing , but optimising the joints and muscle in proper alignment is another. I was playing with weight on the back and front foot raised. But really, if this has been prescribed to you (likely to work on an imbalance, post-injury, or experiencing knee niggles) you would begin simpler - no elevation, no weight, just band. Very nice hip and knee stabilizer.

16.01.2022 Getting creative with fridge ingredients.. Parmesan & garlic crusted chicken on salad with coloured carrots, radish, greek yoghurt and chives. That'll do!

15.01.2022 A nice session for lower body toning below (And with some bodyweight alternatives below them) I did this today with my home studio weights. You can incorporate whatever weights you have available or try bodyweight options ... Squats (Bodyweight: Intensify by working your tempo! Slow down the way down, pause at bottom, faster on way up). Glute Bridges or a Butterfly Bridge (Raise your feet on a step or edge if you can) Step-ups (Concrete steps or retaining wall with enough width to jump on? Warm up with steps and if you're ready, do jump ups! Otherwise, squat jumps on ground work a treat!) Lunges (Walking lunge if you can, otherwise try an on the spot lunge to focus on balance and stability, and one side at a time will burn. Rep it out!) Swiss Ball Leg Curls (Hamstring main focus - without a swiss ball or weights, there are plenty of hamstring focus options but they can be a bit trickier. My favourites are a wall bridge, or a single leg wall bridge, or a reverse saw.) Try working to a timer of 45 seconds each exercise/side in a circuit, and do a couple circuits. That way, no matter what your level is, you can simply do as much as you can with the timeframe you have, and the number of rounds is up to you. 14.01.2022 CHRISTMAS GUILT and the "I FEEL GROSS" thing... This is a time for holidays, family and friends, the beach and celebrations! But I get it, sometimes we feel an INSANE amount of guilt over the choices we make this time of year. We have so many functions ... We want to eat all the foods Aunt Betty makes that amazing brandy eggnog I get it! There's a lot happening and I too enjoy things at this time of year that I usually don't - have you seen my Christmas Day loaded breakfast pancakes? This is not a time to feel GUILT.. don't beat yourself up and enter the new year from a place of being your judge, shaming yourself over the Christmas and New Year period. I am giving you permission to NOT DO THAT. So with that done... Now is the PERFECT TIME to be working on your attitude towards your body, your fitness and your food. Do the hard work now so when you get to situations like Christmas and New Years you don't feel the terrible guilt, or feel gross. ***And by hard work, it isn't doing an hour of cardio in the gym every day. And it isn't going on a chicken for breakfast or 900 calorie deficit meal plan. 12.01.2022 TETRIS! The last few weeks I've been writing about two programs a week - individual to health history, their body limitations, and what they want to feel and achieve. Sometimes they are a personalised mobility and flexibility program to reduce tightness and aches, sometimes it's programming so they can get the most out of their home gym and build muscle tone, or maintain a level of conditioning outside of sport. I LOVE programming! I've been doing it for coming up to 5 year...s now and I still love it It is a bit like a puzzle, or tetris. All the pieces need to fit right for it to work. (Sorta a cross between hack squat and reverse knee extension) Quad and spine stabilisation/core by keeping your torso more "upright" - prisoner pose might help you practise this one. You can also elevate the heels on small weight plate or a block to really help the Quads.. ... Hip/glute involvement by putting in more hip flexion (neutral spine, leaning forwards from the hip) Craig is demonstrating more hip flexion here with a Dumbbell. Only try adding front loaded weight like that if you're confident with it. This is not a "heavy" loading exercise; increase your reps and feel it! Make sure your shin pad is setup to lock you in at the bottom, and the calf pad allows your maximal knee bend. Noice

02.01.2022 Why do I love being a Coach? Ive been incredibly weak. Ive ignored a lot of pain. Ive ignored friends and family. Ive broken relationships, my health and my self-esteem. Some of those stories you might already know about me.... But Ive also been on the other side Ive been incredibly strong. Ive listened to my body. Ive supported friends and family. Ive worked hard on my health, on relationships and how I see myself. Five years ago I took the leap from working in the IT industry and into health and fitness. In my 30 years of life so far, there has been moments that are incredibly tough and moments that have been incredibly rewarding. And there have been a lot of a-huh! moments along the way. So why do I love doing what I do? I love the a-huh moments that my clients get when they have a realisation that feels life-changing for them. When they feel so much stronger physically and mentally and they walk around open to new things and feeling a little taller. When I get a programming comment saying dominated todays training.. except getting a mass hamstring cramp mid set! I have learned a lot. I have taken those learnings and experienced it in my lifestyle, in my body and in my relationships with others and myself. And as Ive learnt from one of my coaches and I share with others, from knowledge and experience we gain wisdom. Here is just a little of my wisdom.. *Training is easy!* but - If youre head isnt on right, or - Your recovery (like food or sleep) is not right, or - You dont have the right support around you You wont be able to believe you can be different or be healthier. And if you dont believe you can reach that place, you will already be doing things that are sabotaging it. I love helping you see your blindspots. I love helping you to get from point A to your goal at point B *and* helping you learn to stay there in the process. Amanda

Here's last weekend's DB dominant leg workout, having a play.. - V Squat machine ... - DB deficit static lunges ( Snap 1) - DB walking lunge (up and back) - DB sissy squat ( Snap 2) - Played around with 60cm step ups (just... for my height this is quite the hip challenge!) Training doesn't need to take forever.. stick to quality reps, nice eccentric loading, and give yourself some consistency with it.

01.01.2022 SELF ENVIRONMENT OTHERS There is a reason why gyms become such a social and friendly place and why people train together.... A lot of our success is heavily influenced by the environment and by others around us. So... Ask that friend if you can meet them at the gym and train at the same time. Ask your girlfriend if she wants to do a walk with you. Ask that dude you see every time you're training what his name is, so you can say "Hey, Sam" instead of the usual head nod. Such little things can make a big difference to your outcome... Imagine what the even BIGGER things can do for your success and outcome! #change #success #environment #people
