09.01.2022 Our drama students arrived in Venice today via the town of Vicenza. We were treated to an interactive display in Vicenzas famous Teatro Olimpico, built in the 1500s during the Renaissance. The first performance staged there was a production of Oedipus Rex & they loved the design so much that they have kept the same set ever since! Getting as close to Venice as we could by land, we then caught water taxis into Venice & then made our way to a mask making workshop. There we ...learnt about the history of Venetian masks, how to mould & make masks & how to paint & create different designs & finishes. It was then our turn to choose & paint a Venetian mask. We thoroughly enjoyed this and are quite proud of our final products! After our creative endeavours we explored more of Venice at night, crossing as many bridges as we could manage. Its easy to see why people love Venice. See more

06.01.2022 Its the last day in Venice for our Academy Travel Drama Student Tour. When in Venice you have to ride a gondola or can you say you were in Venice at all? After that we went to the most impressive theatre in Venice, the Teatro La Fenice. We imagined ourselves watching the opera from the best seats in the house. This beautiful ornate theatre is reminiscent of classic French opera houses and every part of it is a visual spectacle. From there we visited the house of Carlo Gold...oni, Venetian playwright of The Servant of Two Masters & saw an array of original commedia marionettes. As the trip draws to a close we wanted to congratulate our amazing students on their support, skill, enthusiasm & spirit of adventure in embracing new experiences in theatre and drama in three different countries. Academy Travel creates boutique tours for students & schools to enhance learning in exciting locations across the world and this years drama tour allowed students from 14 different schools to join together and learn with and from each other & make wonderful new friends who are all passionate about drama. If youre interested in learning about our next student drama tour in 2021, get in touch with Academy Travel.

06.01.2022 Our drama students spent their last day in Verona, Italy with a three hour Commedia dell Arte with local theatre group Shifting Point. Specialising in movement, voice and mask work, our students had a wonderful time exploring how to use the muscles of the body to create character and meaning. After lunch we discovered the MusALAB Franca Rame Dario Fo. There we learnt about the plays and art of Dario Fo and the theatre of provocation inherent in the work of both playwrights. ...One of their ex performers and translators of their work into English, Mario, then told us stories of his work with the couple, his experience of Fos plays and performed for us an extract from The Holy Jester, about St Francis of Assisi. Finally, we hit Verona like the dedicated drama students we are and performed scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Videos will follow in future posts! We have loved this city and are excited to get to Vicenza and Venice tomorrow! See more
