25.01.2022 We need to remember and acknowledge all warriors. W01 Colin Watego OAM (Ret’d) was the guest speaker at today’s 13th annual Indigenous Veterans’ Ceremony. He ...recognised the important contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people, who are often overlooked in the telling of Australia’s military history. It was a stunning autumn day, and a larger-than-normal crowd of veterans and their families gathered to pay their respects. The service at ANZAC Square is held as part of National Reconciliation Week.

22.01.2022 A Milestone Achieved. Yesterday in Brisbane's ANZAC Square Galleries the Memorial Committee conducted a Partners and Donors Briefing. We all received an update and presentation with photos on the build from Artists Liam and John. The Committee also had the opportunity to sincerely thank the generous donors and wonderful partners who have been both encouraging and extremely supportive every step of the way. We look forward to providing further photo updates on the build and we thank all of our followers who have also been so wonderfully supportive of the State Memorial.

17.01.2022 Just recently the ATSIDMQ Inc Committee met with Liam Hardy, Director and Lead Artist of Sculpt Studios, to conduct a tour of the facility and view the Memorial works in progress. Cultural Advisor John Smith - Gumbula was also present. At this stage all of the 7 figures that stand on the Journey Stone, are almost complete in clay, in preparation for mould construction, that will then house the bronze. The Journey Stone is closely reaching final design. At this stage the works remain a closely guarded secret and works in progress photos will be released in November of this year. The Memorial is expected to be completed in bronze and officially unveiled in Brisbane's ANZAC Square during National Reconciliation Week 2021.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to ATSIDMQI's Lorraine Hatton, OAM. During this years NRW Lorraine was officially appointed as the Indigenous Elder of the Australian Army. Extract of Army Order of the Day On the occasion of the appointment of Army Indigenous Elder Ms Lorraine Hatton, OAM... Indigenous Australians have defended and cared for this land for millennia. We honour their service to the nation. The appointment of Lorraine Hatton OAM, Aunty Lorraine, as the second Army Indigenous Elder, continues our recognition of the proud history of service that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have given to the Army and Australia. Aunty Lorraine will build on the wonderful work of Uncle Roy Mundine OAM, who has provided Army with exemplary service as Army’s inaugural Indigenous Elder since 2015. Uncle Roy has been a role model and advocate for all of Army. Uncle Roy will remain closely connected with Army as he transitions from the official duties of this role. Aunty Lorraine is a Ngughi/Noonuccal Elder, originally from Minjerribah, Queensland. In 2007, Aunty Lorraine retired at the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two after 20 years of distinguished service in the Royal Australian Signals Corps. 13.01.2022 NAIDOC Week is a chance for all Australians to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. During NAIDOC W...eek, all personnel on operations in the Middle East will be acknowledging the unique skill sets and perspectives that Indigenous personnel bring to Australian Defence Force. For Warrant Officer (WO2) Nathan Sandow, the Middle East is a long way from the lush tropical island his ancestors called home. He is a Butchulla man, and his tribe inhabited Fraser Island, or as they called it, K’gari, which means Paradise. He is currently deployed as part of Force Support Element 10 (FSE-10) supporting Operation Accordion. FSE 10 provides theatre logistic support to sustain Australian Defence Force operations across the Middle East Region, including Operation Highroad, Manitou and Okra. In his role as an Ammunition Technician, he facilitates the movement and disposal of explosive ordnance. When I enlisted, there wasn’t a lot of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Defence, he said. Now we have our mob of Indigenous members here, it is our people working with the Defence community. Nathan says Defence is focused on cultural diversity and the theme for NAIDOC week this year is - working for a shared future. Everyone needs to talk about reconciliation, from there, we can all work together, he said. Nathan says his ancestors did not have a voice, he believes his children will have that voice. For reconciliation to work we need to get the truth out there. Once the truth is accepted by everyone, then treaty can be added to the conversation, WO2 Sandow said. There is approximately 500 ADF personnel deployed on Op Accordion. Op Accordion sustains and supports Australian Defence Force operations and enhances regional relationships. #NAIDOC2019 #ThisIsMyMission #YourADF #OpAccordion #AustralianArmy
