19.01.2022 In medicine there is the idea that treating gender dysphoria requires only hormones & surgery. The extensive trauma experienced by trans people is not commonly addressed. Trauma has often been constant in the lives of most transgender (& Intersex) people. There is generally an absence of the proper loving, supportive care that is necessary from childhood through to adult years. True identity formation is usually unsafe for trans people growing up, & lack of appropriate nurt...uring leads to poor mental health & poor coping. Knowing that being themselves requires such enormous effort & cost & that it is so cruelly stigmatised can be overwhelming. Lack of acceptance leads to poor outcomes & poorer life circumstances for many minorities - not only transgender people. Everyone deserves consideration, love & understanding.
