For those who find winter long, dark and cold (perhaps even daunting) - Clinical Psychologist, Cara Crothers shares 4 tips to beating those "Winter Blues"

20.01.2022 It can be difficult to work out expectations about how fast or well you should recover from a concussion. Clinical Neuropsychologist Cate Cheetham explains why it is important to get a formal diagnosis for Post Concussive Syndrome and how a Neuropsychologist can assist and guide you through the recovery process.

19.01.2022 Sometimes our inner voice can voice any self-doubts and magnify them in our minds. This of course is driving lots of our personal agony. Clinical Neuropsychologist Cate Cheetham explains why we give our inner voice so much credibility and how we can get on better terms with it.

13.01.2022 After 20 years of working with performers as a Clinical and performance psychologist and being privileged enough to hear the stories of so many performers who have struggled with mental health issues with little support in silence, it is time to speak about it, to break the silence that maintains shame and isolation, and work towards fundamental change. This has been necessary for so long. I'm so pleased to have been invited on this panel to discuss the issues coming out of s...uch a thought provoking documentary that mirrors the experiences I have seen over and over again during so many years in private practice. The stories are real and disturbing but necessary to realise that the statistics are not just numbers on a page but reflect the sobering experiences of so many performers and entertainment professionals. I hope to see some of you I know there and many I have never met before. Spread the word. See more

11.01.2022 In case you missed the Sunday Mail today, Alexandra Frost was in the paper being interviewed about increasing demands on psychologists and our recruiting campaign to find more good practitioners to join our practice. She said her practice, which has offices in North Adelaide and Glenelg, had never been busier and was now looking for extra psychologists to help meet the increased demand. On the one hand, it is a great thing to be aware of mental health but, on the other, ther...e is slight anxiety around how we are going to meet this increased demand, she said. This time of year is traditionally busier than most but we are finding our waiting lists have grown for us and many other Adelaide practices. We are recruiting for two to three psychologists at the moment to make sure we can maintain our duty of care to our clients over summer and into the New Year. We have waiting lists and strategies to help manage the load at the moment but there is a real sense that demand for psychologists is outstripping supply in some parts of the country. According to the Black Dog Institute one in five or 20 per cent of Australians aged 16 to 85 will experience a mental illness in any year, with growing rates among children. Ms Frost said an emerging area of demand was around anxiety. I think there is growing awareness around anxiety rather than just depression with more and more people coming to see us stressed and anxious about balancing work and family, difficult workplaces, these types of issues, she said. I certainly think our society has become more complex. Technology has been a wonderful thing but it has also changed the way we communicate and changed the pressure on people in the workplace and (in their) personal life to respond quickly to things.
